NaPoWriMo 4/30

writing prompt day four ‪#‎naporwimo‬ i have a pretty strong love for Harley Quinn. i often fall for the antagonist and even more, the anti-hero. today, let's start with two lists. on one side, list 5-6 of your favorite anti-heroes. (Harley Quinn, Aria Stark [i know she is a stark, but there is a darkness to her, and this is poetry, we can be free!], Deadpool, etc.) on the other, 5-6 of you're more negative qualities. *notes about the negatives-- what sometimes sucks, can be used to an advantage. 'being considered cold' probably works out great on long air flights, 'assertive' gets you places* now, connect the qualities to the anti-heroes you chose. some will connect to multiples. that is good! the ones that grasps the most qualities, how about you write them a letter? i think you got this one. you're steller. NaPoWriMo Day Three Prompt: Let's talk about grief. We are going to talk about a lot of heavy, ugly things this month. We are going to talk about where to put them, ways to let them go, places to settle the bones of the dead. 1. draw four to five circles, each larger than the next. 2. in the middle of each circle, write a person/place/thing that reminds you of a highly charged emotional event where you did not have control. The most highly charge even in the biggest circle, to least. For Example "High School Prom" "Little League Tryouts" "8th Grade Yearbook Photo" a concrete memory is what you want here. 3. In that circle, write out the emotions that you felt at that time. "High School Prom- Excited, Scared, Lonely, Horny, Loved" might all be good answers. Try to use the most spectacular adjectives you can, feel free to use thesaurus.com it' a great buddy for writers. 4. Now get this story stone off your chest! You've just built up an incredible word pool and you have the title: it's your traumatic event. Don't be afraid to give us the details: colors, smells, the feel of the wood or satin under your palms, if she wore lipstick for that first kiss, how long you wore the braces in that photo. Rewrite the ending. We all have relationships that have ended, be it in death, in distance, in time... what can be pretty crappy about them is sometimes we don't know THAT was the last moment we may have had in that relationship. Today, take back that moment. Rewrite your ending. Here is your chance to say goodbye, to tell someone that you love them, all the fantastic things that you have both endured. Or maybe this is your chance to unleash all of your fury, to say what has been sitting in the back of your mind for a decade. The point of today's writing is to purge words for someone that you will probably never, ever get to share with them. But that is OK!!! This exercise is FOR YOU. Prompt 1/30 take an identity. now, list all the qualities about this identity that hollywood 'Romanticizes'. List about 6 to 10 of those qualities. Examples: eating disorders. (Ana/Mia, "nothing tastes as good as being skinny feels) disability (bald=cancer EVERYTIME, right? [NOPE!] 'YOU ARE SO STRONG!' ) person of size (lazy 'big chicks are always funny") now, after you have that list, write an ANTI poem. what is the UN-SIDE of that identity? today is an ERASURE POEM. it is one of my favorites, because you get to be creative and borrow from someone else. i have included Bukowski's "So You Want To Be A Writer?" it seems fitting. so, how does the erasure poem work? make a poem from the poem i just gave you! black out lines, make sentences from what is left. sounds easy, right? why don't you GO FOR IT!

ok, this prompt comes a little from my brain, and a little from a poem by the super talented wonder woman, Lauren Zuniga. she just recorded a new video, so I am going to share it! http://youtu.be/tRh7P8z2sGg i know, right?! take it in, you ticking time bombs of words and magic. ok. i have a poem called 'Chocolate and Almonds' where i keep coming back to telling you ye line "He says, I want to take you to dinner.". it developed into an amazingly warm and healing poem. so, here's your prompt. think of the last time someone told you something. something that made you uncomfortable, that didn't sit well with you. think of what it was that bothered you. are you angered/triggered? is it looping back to your childhood? are they telling you what you can/can not do? write it out. be brave, say what you want, and don't be afraid of any repercussions! use this poem to heal if you want, or use it to say what you need to, or hell, to tell the cop off that pulled you over for being out at a poetry show too late, go nuts!

So I want you to imagine a moment that you want to go back to and change. now, on one side of your paper, explain this moment in great detail. try to fill the entire paper. basically, paint the picture with words. now, on the other side, write your poem. go back and say what you want to say.
