Lessons from my book Show Your Work!
From the writer of Steal Like An Artist comes Show Your Work! It's a fun read and very useful. I will follow this to the best of my abilities. I know I'm bad at keeping my blog updated but I'll be sharing more stuff soon. I promise to myself.
20 owl amigurumis. Read about them here and I made a GIF here.
GIF of all 20 owls. More photos here.
Last November our house was one of the many that got destroyed. Around that time, I was barely a month in my new job and my colleagues had pledged money to help our family. It meant a lot given that I barely knew them. So as a token of my sincere gratitude, I went back to making amigurumis so I could give each of them a handmade gift. I didn't have a lot of spare time so making 20 owls took time. And now I'm finally done!
I actually made 23 but my first attempt failed and I had already given two to a friend. I know owls are so last season but if I was to make 20+, it had to be a fairly easy pattern and I saw this really cute owl pattern over at garnstudio. PS. Taking these pictures were a challenge. I was holding the light and the camera and focus all at the same time. I didn't have a tripod/light stand. :p
UPDATE
Sent the owls to their owners today! See here.
BINISAYA 2014 is already calling for films!
Yesterday's Strawberry Man
I was chopping strawberries for breakfast yesterday.
Then I picked up this little strawberry man.
I placed it in the bowl to see how it made me feel but it stared at me and begged for its life.
I decided I couldn't eat it so I let it go.
I know I shouldn't be playing with food, but I couldn't resist.
During BINISAYA 2012, Aiess Alonso won best short film for her “Katapusang Labok”
Aiess and her film then went to Cannes Short Film Corner, then to Cinemalaya, and then everywhere…
For BINISAYA 2014, Aiess will be bringing home short films from all over asia,
My desk. Iskalawags posters taped to the wall. Books I need to finish. And some flowers from the grocery.
A Day In The Park
Last weekend we had a lovely time at the park.
The only visible part of the dam and it says no camera and video taking.
Today was the last screening of Iskalawags for the CinemaOne Originals Film Festival, but it won't be the last you'll hear of us. Ecstatic to hear all the positive feedback from film critics and strangers. Wishing all the best for one of the craziest filmmaker I know, Keith Deligero.
Studies and sketches of girly girls with a bunch of quotations. I love taking down quotes. I collect them in fact--in a notebook solely dedicated to quotes. Uh-huh. In the third picture, that's a part of lyrics from the song Same Mistakes by The Echo Friendly. And on the last picture, those are from a speech Tavi Gevinson gave. She is awesome. I need to watch her movie Enough Said. And my current scanner is an ancient one. It's a bit color-confused. Forgive the uneven-ness.
Quick sketch of an enfant terrible. ♡
Venus Pop-up Art Show
Last August, I was lucky enough to take part in a pop up art show with some really cool girls. The show was aptly called 'Venus'. It was organized by StreetKonect. Below are my contributions to the show. These are postcard size portraits of Yu Aoi. I have been watching Osen at the time, a Japanese drama that stars Yu Aoi. She is beautiful. These were a bit rushed though. I'm sorry about that--August and September were busy months.
Some snapshots from the event:

Mich + Mash Ceramics
I have been itching to try pottery for a while now and I think I'll be signing up for a few classes once our schedule frees up. [We're quite busy at the moment with Iskalawags.] :D So I was looking up the internet for ceramics and plates and cups and mugs and stuff and just drooled at all the amazing things I've seen so far. But out of all that I've seen, Mich + Mash Ceramics are without a doubt the most awesome pottery in the whole universe.
These were made by the talented Michelle Summers and she sells them locally in Minneapolis, but hopefully she will start selling online once I've saved up enough moolah to buy me some of her wonderful work. This is her blog, go and be inspired. :D P.S. She also makes cute jewelry! Aren't these the best?
All photos are from her blog Mich + Mash.
