@taraunderstars beautiful horses make me think of you always
New barn pictures!
There are two stalls per ānookā. An interesting concept Iāve never seen before. This place was apparently the modernest of the modern, and quite luxurious when it was just built. Strange the concept never caught on⦠probably because it makes for less space to stall horses, but I like the quiet it gives.
Despite a school lesson going on (itās both a boarding place and a riding school), it was just as quiet today as when I last visited. Itās very clean and organised.

so um does anyone deal with numb toes while riding? the toes on my left foot go completely numb when I ride.
Yes- itās likely from circulation due to the position of your ankle. Your best pet is actually an ergonomic stirrup like a sprenger
I get this also! I was wondering if it was because they were too short (I have a tight Achilles?) but idk
Also unrelated but does anyone else get a weirdly specific knee pain thing while riding? The inside of my left knee right around the kneecap tends to hurt after I get off these days and Iām wondering if Iām doing something position wise with my muscles to cause something like that :/
PURE!!!!
Does anyone know why horseback riding a āgirlā thing? Like, horses are huge and majestic and lots of people are terrified of them, that sounds like an excellent start for a āguyā thingā¦
Watch me, a āgirlā terrorize the neighborhood with my huge, majestic and terrifying donkey!!! All the guys hide, or if you look straight at my girly horse for 30 seconds youāll⦠Became a woman!!!
[semi-serious answer]
Thatās because horses must be regarded with gentle confidence, compassion and patience. Not exactly traits most men want to show nowadays.
Otherwise your majestic and terrifying beast only throws you in the dirt.
I read an article recently saying that boys donāt ride horses bc it hurts our balls and weāre too ashamed to tell anyone
I think it is worth noting that there are a lot more men at higher levels of competition (specifically eventing, because thatās what Iām familiar with) and Iāve always been suspicious and confused by that?
I think itās the usual sexist stuff
I wonder about other countries tho, because in the US thereās the huge āhorses r girlyā thing but idk how widespread that is in other countries. Bc worldwide competition is fairly equally distributed between men & women I think but I see more women competing in the US
Ok but as a literary history major, what apparently happened was horses were a āguyā thing when they were utilitarian animals. As trains and cars replaced them, the horse industry was in danger of dwindling, but releases like National Velvet inspired women looking for stereotype-busting activities (pants and bicycles, oh my!) to also start getting into equestrian sports. Women pretty much saved the industry with their sudden influx of interest in riding for sport and pleasure.
Is this why every Equestrian likeā¦Idk how to phrase itā¦Memoir-type book spends 5 years forcing theĀ āhorses exhibit Feminine Qualities (read: Gender Roles Stuff) So Women Love Themā nonsense down my throat for 5 years
Iām really tired of not being able to pick up a non-strictly-theoretical book without running into that lmao
The feminization of horses and horse activities in America definitely came after women got involved as an attempt at gender role subversion. Like⦠āfine if women want horses then theyāre GIRLY now!ā
Oh wait I forgot special mention goes out to the one (1) book I read that said that women love horses not because theyāre feminized, but (in a twist!) because theyāre MASCULINE, MUSCULAR SYMBOLS OF STRENGTH that are underĀ āfemaleā control while being ridden so itās some kind of weird sexualized power fantasy for ladies who want to control Manās Men (Iām not making this up) (For the record a man wrote that one)
My lesbian ass, reading that: Really. Really interesting.Ā
(But your point makes total sense I buy that completely)

I wish leash laws had some special rules for mount-accompanied hounds because I would love to do this

Riding is a partnership. The horse lends you his strength, speed and grace, which are greater then yours. For your part, youĀ giveĀ him guidance, intelligence and understanding which are greater then his. Together you can achieve a richness that neither can alone. -Ā LucyĀ Rees
