     “Hey, hey... is any of this... necessary?”

The chair squeaks under Yuichiro as he shimmies in the seat this way and that, albeit by little inches of itty bitty movement. He deflates, and wriggles inside the tied ropes around his torso. Gah... it made his wrists itch when he does that. He stops with another grumble, head falling as he stares at the floor for but a moment. Then, he’s looking up once more, brow furrowed as a whine edges in his voice.

     “Can you let me out now? Thisthingreallyitches -- really, I don’t even know how I fell through the roof! I wasn’t even -- grrahh... meh -- awake!”

     “Hey, hey! Are you getting slower or something?! You weren’t this slack when we trained together before!”

Yuichiro beams, thrill pumping into his bones -- there was an exhilarating breathlessness that can only be found in heat of battle. Sparks fly in all sorts of directions, and Yuichiro humphs, certain of his victory over Kimizuki. With a push of his blade, his feet sift back in the dirt, leaping away from the conflict to regain his posture with practiced ease. His blade points to Kimizuki once more as he huffs out the breath he’d been holding, grinning that same infectious grin of his.

     “All right! I’m ready for you!”

   “I’m still not laughing.” Mikaela found it preposterous, that Yuichiro could laugh in such a pressing matter. Mikaela’s arms were crossed watching, dumbfounded and unable to join, no matter how much he felt Yuichiro encouraging him to do so. He noticed the difference: How he used to find laughter natural, compared to now, where it was near straining to find the will to. There was just something lacking, and even though Mikaela himself didn’t seem to even find the motivation to care, Yuichiro did for him. “That’s not funny.”

     “Hahaha-- what do you mean? ‘Course it is!”

Yuichiro, the ever patient-testing individual, continues to laugh as Mikaela scowls. It’s quiet, something just to themselves as if they were both sharing a secret. The laugh easily dwindles too, like he’s irritated Mikaela enough, and he grins -- sure of himself in the next instant. He tilts his head, smile soft and sweet. 

     “You spent this time worried for my humanity, right? Well... we’ve never been human at all. Now, we’ve got nothing to worry about.”

Happy belated birthday, Yuichiro! I wanted to draw something for his birthday, even though I didn’t have the time to draw one on his actual birthday so here is a veeery late sketch. It shows Yuichiro in his alternate costume as he just finished eating his cake, fork still between his teeth.

“yuu.” his tone comes surprisingly soft when speaking this name. there’s only subtle aggravation lying in his tone. he gives yuichiro a nudge, shoulder to shoulder. “you’re staring into space again. don’t expect me to feed you.”

     “Uh...? Oh... Uh-huh.”

It’s pointless to respond, Yuichiro realizes, but he gives one anyway as he sways back and forth in his chair. A thoughtful, drawled hum leaves him in a steady sigh. Yuichiro finally comes to properly settle his weight onto the chair again, absently staring at his neglected plate of food. His brow furrows then, and beryl-like eyes fly up to meet Mika’s unfamiliar crimson. 

     “Hey -- have you fed yet...? It’s about that time, isn’t it?”
