𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 post timeskip, fluff, slice of life, established relationship before events of the fic, 2nd pov, non kansai dialect!reader, gn!reader 0.3k words, sillier than usual kita.

even after years of being accompanied by the cerulean sky when out in the rice fields, 𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐚 wasn’t used to the striking blue of osaka aquarium kaiyukan’s waters.

“i thought water was blue since the daytime sky reflects on the surface,” he mused aloud, brown eyes seeming brighter as the light from the tanks reflected on to his eyes, illuminating the otherwise dim tunnel. perhaps it was methylene blue.

briefly, a mass had cast a shadow across his face, prompting him to look up.it was only then he started to be conscious of your hand intertwined with his. “𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐤𝐞,” you whispered, catching his attention. with your eyes, you directed his above the two of you. “i can see the stingray’s belly... i wonder what those flaps are.”

at the sight of the new creature, the white-haired man nods. “a cownose ray.”

“you looked at the website before coming here.”

“correct.”

“always so prepared, huh?” you shifted your gaze back to him, though his seems remains trained on the ray.

“i didn’t drive for an hour justa not know what i’m gettin’ into,” just so you know, 𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐚 still prints out driving directions in those thick packets, even spending a few hours cropping out the unnecessary details to save ink. 

“fine, what’s the cownose ray’s scientific name?”

“rhinoptera bonasus.”

“what do they eat?”

“…‘m not exactly a walkin’ encyclopedia, darlin’.”

that earned a chuckle from you. “what…” you drawled out dramatically, watching the space between his eyebrows crease the more you held the syllable. “you mean to tell me you wouldn’t give a damn if a cownose ray were to smash through the tank and take a good chomp out of this face and you’ll end up thinking, man, if only i could remember more than the actual name of the cownose ray...”

“don’t be ridiculous…” 𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐚 scoffs under his breath, deciding to tug you along so as to move on to the next exhibit and not stall the other aquarium enjoyers, muttering a “i don’t sound like that, either.”

that said, once you were looking ahead, he glanced back to make sure the cownose ray knew its place.

𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐚, i tend to forget timestamps are supposed to capture specific moments in time rather than be an aesthetic title. anyway, aquarium date with kita!!

Summary: Suna thinks he’s going to have a good day today but then again, when has he ever had a good day?

The sun is barely peeking out behind the mountains and buildings of Amagasaki, Hyogo. Few people are out and about; there were the people who woke up early to tend to their shops, restocking and tidying up for the busy Monday ahead. Farmers in their fields tending to their crops and livestock. There were also the drunks trudging their way back home, swaying in the nonexistent strong winds as they walked.

And then, there was Suna Rintarou, jogging past those few people already out and about at 4 AM in the morning.

Turns out, no one can really say for sure how post-moving from one region to an entirely different one would affect someone.

Everybody’s different that way. Sometimes it’s like the entire earth has been thrown off its axis. Other times, one just realizes the amount of socks they actually own (and how many have lost their pair).

For Suna, it became increasingly obvious how much he slept better when he was living in Aichi.

KPOP DEMON HUNTERS (2025) + TUMBLR REACTIONS

Ohhhh it was made by SONY, which is where Genndy Tartakovsky went starting in 2011. He pioneered using traditional 2d techniques like squash-stretch in 3d. That's really hard to do on a technical level (as in, the software), it takes way more effort in 3d, because you are essentially having to make software that was designed from the get-go to work like stop-motion/puppetry work like actual drawn animation. And that's why Hotel Transylvania has some of the best animation in the biz. I would bet that's why THIS movie was able to DO the kind of dynamic, expressive things it was able to do. His name may not be on the credits, but his influence is in the technical "how" of it. And honestly, I'm so fucking glad. 3d animation is usually so FUCKING boring to look at--because there's no warping, no squash-stretch, no exaggeration. It's the perfect studio to pull off that hyper-exaggerated 90s anime popping between chibi and non-chibi, having little asides, super exaggerated cartoon expressions this has. It's so PRETTY!

He thinks they added unplanned special effects to the concert without telling him. He apparently has no control over when they drop a new single or start promotion. @bugsnbites Kpop Demon Hunters gets funnier the longer you think about it. Jinu had to approach his demon boy band and tell them that it’s a common thing for bands to have a ’baby archetype’ member. One of them had to volunteer or get chosen for this

Like, two people who are supposed to hate and kill each other somehow found, empathized, and eventually fell in love, and Rumi is the fruit and proof of that love. Rumi is not a curse, she is a miracle!

𝟓:𝟓𝟒 

𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 against his wishes, 𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐨 mentally reverts back eleven years—though he comes to realize that some people don't mind that part of his personality as much.

𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 headcanoned an uncharismatic (at least when no one he knows is around) kuroo

𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 university!au, marketing major!kuroo, could be read as platonic or romantic, 1.2k words.

you'd think growing up in the city would make you invincible to the claustrophobic streets, the constant exposure of conversations you definitely weren't supposed to hear, or the blinding street lights that concealed the stars that the rest of japan got to see.

admittedly, 𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐨 found himself a little jealous of locals when the volleyball club occasionally traveled outside of tokyo for matches. he supposed it was about how life, at least human life, was sparse—only barely compensated by the rustling of grass blades or trees and cicadas when the sun started to sink. occasionally, they'd reach places where the world seemed still; it was uncomfortably silent save for the occasional elder crossing the street or the noticing of his own footsteps. or maybe the uncomfortable part was just tinnitus.

university was uncharted territory, in spite of kuroo being familiar with the city for most of his life. no high school classmates to perk up at, no underclassmen to set a precedent for, no yaku or kai to meet up with, and ultimately no kenma to fall back on.

sure, that's a little bruising to his ego, but it's fine. dad said he didn't need too much friends, anyway. however, it comes to a point where even he realizes that waking up at the buttcrack of dawn just to avoid the flooding of pedestrians en route from his house to campus is a little concerning.

"you need to get out more, 𝐭𝐞𝐭𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐨-𝐤𝐮𝐧," 𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐨 could hear his older sister's voice reverberate through his mind. "gotta know the market you're, well, marketing to."

ah, immediate family. it wasn't like he was better when it comes to consistency in his thoughts, though.

this part of tokyo's metropolitan area feels like an entirely different world compared to the same place just a few hours down the line: the clouds were still pink, as if they too just rubbed their eyes to wake up; the sun was bright enough that its rays stretched beyond the buildings above, weaving through alleys to create a halo each structure he passed. 

and this tiny little of tokyo was just how 𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐨 preferred it. quiet.

he took his time, given his classes didn't start until much later, stopping to peruse vending machines, pet the typical stray dog or cat (𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐨 didn't have a choice when it came to cats, for even the animals seemed asleep), and greet the occasional old timer on their walk (it seems to him that they thought their little world was louder than they would've preferred as well). 

𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐨 swears his route to the train station get's shorter and shorter every passing day in spite of all the dilly dallying, perhaps he experienced another growth spurt and his strides were longer. 

regardless, he made it without a hitch.

the steel rumbles against his sneakers as the train announced its arrival with a distant jingle, followed by a siren-like screech as it slowed to a halt. he could feel the wind ruffling the hood of his jacket; the gusts attempting to rearrange the hair he woke up with. 

just in time.

he waits for the doors to open as he steps inside, about to plop himself in whatever seat he felt like was the most convenient. his mind sort of races ahead—he finds his seat, perhaps take a goofy photo or two to send to kenma or his dad, lounge about a bit until the doors close, then go along his university day as quietly as possible.

but of course, he manages to stop himself when he sees someone unfamiliar. he thought it was dumb: the concept of shorter people having faster reflexes due to their being less ground to cover from their brain to the nerves needed to react, but damn did he wish he could shave off a few inches given he was pinning this poor person in their seat with his arms.

fortunately for him, his volleyball brain was connected to his actual brain. 

here he is, trapping a stranger to a rather small place on the train, currently looking up at him in a sense of shock. obviously, he needed to immediately separate, but there had the be a follow up, right? there's thousands if not hundreds of thousand words in the japanese language: he just needed to pick the right combination and—

"ah, excuse me."

not a millisecond to spare—clocking in at 0.2 seconds reaction time—𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐨 promptly walks to the other side of the train car, plopping down as he planned though without the usual carefreeness.

it did take at least 5 more seconds of the awkward atmosphere to simmer in the train that he could've sworn used to be freezing for him to realize.

excuse me?!

he tries to save face from his dialogue bouncing around his undoubtedly brainless cranium by keeping his lips pressed together in a painfully straight, thin line as he pretended to fix his hair.

good thing he wasn't a cat anymore, because he definitely would've died right then and there as he peeked between his fingers.

the stranger was looking at him as well, with similar curiosity. so similar, that the both of them looked right into each others' eyes...

...and instantly focused on their gazes on something else. in 𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐨'𝐬 case, the advertisement regarding the latest laxative caught his attention.

"gotta know the market you're, well, marketing to."

he doubted that his sister meant "watch the stranger he accidentally placed in an uncomfortable situation" as "market research." honestly, he just needed an excuse to indulge in his curiosity further—it would've been a long ride if he held back looking at the stranger's way.

he turned his head, slightly, looking at the reflection of the window behind him. fortunately, he can see just enough to see whatever they were looking at, so he followed their line of sight to the promotional poster plastered to the wall that separated this train car form the car next over. 

there he was—no. 12 of the msby black jackals and one of their outside hitters—pointing with his signature "beam."

𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐨 couldn't help but chuckle a little—bokuto of all people being advertised on a national scale. naturally, the stranger picked up on it and looked back at him. amazing!

"ah, i knew him in high school," he said without being prompted to do so. that detail would've launched another panic mode with record reaction time if it weren't for the fact he couldn't help but speak up again to elaborate. "went against his school at spring inter-high and lost. fukurodani's rather formidable."

"ah... cool," the stranger responded, then paying attention back to their phone.

𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐨's mind shatters like a mirror.

honestly, he supposed that reaction was warranted. he wasn't sure how he'd responded to person randomly pointing out something he was just looking at with an anecdote they didn't ask for—

"you, uh... have constipation?"

he blinked, only now registering that his gaze had drifted back to that laxative advertisement. a few more seconds later, he also realized that he didn't give a response until they spoke up.

"daikenchuto's always the way to go," they rubbed their neck. 

"oh, uh... thanks," 𝐤𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐨 offered a fraction of his usual grin—just enough to not scare them off. as the stranger looked away, he caught the next poster their eyes landed on.

𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐚, i kinda wonder how easy for confident seeming people to just strike up a conversation when there's absolutely nobody you know around. also my first actual work that i wrote up! i planned to queue it but got impatient!! hope you enjoyed!!

𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬. i try to be culturally and chronologically accurate even when writing fics, as i think it adds an extra sense of depth to them! of course, i wasn't brought up in the early 2010s nor do i live in japan, but i do want to share some bits in my fic that i thought were interesting. for as large of text i have here, there's only one bit of information i wanted to share ;-;

𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐭𝐨 - a traditional japanese remedy used for stomach and intestinal issues and by extension, constipation. also known as dkt, it has japanese pepper, processed ginger, ginseng, and maltose powder.

𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 somewhat overly specific activities that the inarizaki boys' volleyball club members partake in.

𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 slight trypophobia in ginjima's part, death and burials mentioned in akagi's section (of animals)

𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 miya atsumu, miya osamu, kita shinsuke, ojiro aran, akagi michinari, oomimi ren, ginjima hitoshi, and suna rintarou; could be read as pre or post timeskip, 0.7k words

𝐦𝐢𝐲𝐚 𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐮 sniffs sharpies. just kidding, but he likes to literally put his nose where it doesn't belong (and he sniffs sakura solid markers instead!) eating gross things can be osamu's thing, sniffing questionable items is his. gasoline, caterpillars, fresh layers of paint... on a slightly less strange note, he kinda likes the smell of baby powder–partly from being accustomed to putting a little in his volleyball shoes. he also tends to smell his and osamu's food before they eat—𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐮 would never admit that this habit stemmed from making sure the both of them are safe.

𝐦𝐢𝐲𝐚 𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐮 tends to look up if things are edible. ever since reading a manga character quip that plenty of flowers are edible, he had a curious callous developed on his pinky finger (from extended periods in his phone). it isn't particularly shocking, but he searches up everything—from flowers, to weeds, to fish, to bugs. as much as his teammates may look at him strangely, 𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐮 likes to think his horizons have broadened.

𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐤𝐞 reads manuals and labels in languages he doesn't understand. in addition to training his english, he reads any translations that are conveniently available in the back. (he understands chinese the best due to the characters). honest, he isn't sure if he'll ever step foot in foreign soil—he's pretty sure that he'd die in this same hometown. though, even in spite of firmly planting his roots here in hyōgō, regularly seeing his former teammates on tv playing abroad got to his head. 𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐚 would be the first to admit that it'd be nice to see a bit of the world outside of japan; it'd truly be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

𝐨𝐣𝐢𝐫𝐨 𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧 like rehydrating rocks. kita says that it contributes and quickens the pace of erosion, but when was that ever a bad thing? the earth changes, and it doesn't hold sympathy for rocks, as formidable as they are in figurative language and the like. besides, it looks nice and shiny. 𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧 typically does it when he's alone or not engaging in conversation at the onsen—something tells him that the boulders would appreciate the nice spring water as well. 

𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐢 𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐢 presides over pet funerals at his neighborhood, often widely attended by children and those they invited. sure, you can't exactly place judgment on animals' behavior by the same standard of humans, but he remembers reading somewhere that some creatures that engage in pack behavior do mourn for those in-group. also, 𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐢 doesn't particularly care, he treats animals with the same courtesy as humans, albeit with more treats and cuddles. 𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐢 enjoys his work, but recently, some kid asked him to bury a whole colony of ants... that would definitely be a lot of work, considering the child took the liberty of naming each and every one individually... but even the smallest of life deserves to be buried properly.

𝐨𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐦𝐢 𝐫𝐞𝐧 skips instead of what you could imagine to be the typical workout of a jog. what's not to love? he's able to extend his legs outside of the proper, somewhat constricting running form, he could definitely approve his vertical jump, it makes great cardio, and it's all around fun. 𝐨𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐦𝐢 wonders why he doesn't see more people, including children, participate in such a way of moving around. he should consult akagi about this form of exercise.

𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐣𝐢𝐦𝐚 𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐡𝐢 kicks over ant hills. yes, he knows he's a monster. he isn't exactly ten years old anymore, so unless he was feeling particularly fine with being the second student body pariah next to the starting setter, he tends to do it in private. it's the holes without reason, 𝐠𝐢𝐧 swears, that really bother him. he respects all the hard work and cooperation these little ants have against the world of titans like him that kick over their strongholds, but 𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐣𝐢𝐦𝐚 hopes evolution happens a little faster so they could change up their architecture.

𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐚 𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐨 is quite partial to walking around in the complete darkness. a part of him was surprised there was any spot in japan shrouded in completely darkness, but all it took was a brief walk a bit of ways away from his home and boom—he was practically in a void of his own even though civilization was a few steps backward... or maybe forward? diagonally? ...see that sparkle in the dark? in spite of his stationary exterior, the sense of slight adventure is something that get's anyone riled up. now to find his way back home...

hi there! i go by serena around these parts—obviously i won’t overshare here but i’ll offer some glimpses of who i am here :D

i’ve been writing for as long as i first started school recreationally, but had experienced the biggest creative block of my life pertaining to the medium for two years. now, i’m easing back into it!
