Um⊠yes. I donât think itâs ignorance. I think itâs an air of entitlement that many people have. Some folks think all other human beings live to serve their every need. They also forget that there are people other than themselves who have the same needs that they have. So if a doctor is *heaven forbid* taking some ME time, they take it as a personal affront, as if someone is intentionally neglecting their needs.Â
Medblrs, yâall have seen this, right? What unrealistic expectations do you see people have of doctors?Â
My favorite (read: most annoying) experience with this is when ER patients are absolutely insistent that we call their primary doctor/specialist âright awayâ so they can come to the ER to examine them personally/immediately. And then those patients get very upset and indignant when we tell them no.Â
Like, just no. Youâre PCP/Specialist is busy. Very busy. They do not have time to come to the ED to examine you when we are more than capable (and sometimes more capable) to treat you here. Unless you are in dire need of a specialist, we arenât going to disturb them to come and see you unless we find it necessary or weâre ready to admit you.

2) get an orthopedic surgeon ASAP into primary clinic to see a 4 week old fracture that was already healing on its own and adequately casted in the ER.
3) update every single one of their 12 children daily about her condition. Daily. I cannot make 12 phone calls daily. I can have you pick a point person amongst your children, I offered. She couldnât do that, she said, because then they would all know she had a favorite (wtf are you serious)
4) that I was going to prescribe every medication they wanted. No, Iâm not writing for both an antibiotic and a narcotic and every single OTC medication you want for your VIRAL URI. You donât need norco for a viral URI. And then this patient and his wife yelled at me and the nurse for not having âgood serviceâ. Yo. YO.
5)Â âYou shouldnât be taking care of other patients right now, Iâm still in pain and I need to know youâre focused on my issues.ââactual words from actual patientâs mouth and he actually meant it.

Good problem
Text bickering with the old team about where to get drinks tonight. The decision was left to me and the cute co-intern and med students. We are all staunchly defending and recommending our personal favorite bars.
That said, I might have written down the names of these other places forâŠfuture investigation.
But we should still go to mine. Because they have Street Fighter and literally only bourbon, scotch, and whiskey. And itâs dark and wood paneled with jazz and itâs neighborly. So yeah.
Cute co-intern wants to go to one of the very popular bars in the hipster-y part of town with a wide selection of drinks. Good rock and indie rock music and itâs also wood and steel with that warm industrial look.
Your choice reminds me of Saturn in Birmingham. The only bar that I've ever been to that has a fifty to one ratio of Vintage games to drinks
