it's very much easier to block and cancelle people than to actually check in with them about what they're actually trying to convey, and the fact that no one gave me any grace at all really bothers me. however this is tumblr so i am not sure why i am surprised. i just expected better from people who reblog posts about this exact phenomenon tbh

i read that post as "don't allow misogynists to use your marginalized identity in order to get you to hate women". maybe that's not what it was saying which is why i deleted it. i don't know. i used to be a man myself and i found myself falling into that trap, which i feel horrible about now, and that's where that was coming from. and i want the queer community to be the best place it can be, and right now it is deeply misogynistic. and that's not anyone's specific fault---anyone can be misogynistic. but it's important to call out instances where people use their marginalized identity in order to justify their hatred of women, and people do that regardless of what identity they have. that's all i was saying! i don't harbor any hatred or dislike for any members of the queer community by virtue of identity, i never have, and claiming that i have done so in the past simply because i focus more on women in fandom contexts is absolutely batshit insane.

so the thing about sam and ocam is that ocam is so good at playing the silly little dude, people forget he’s a telepath. when darem tells ocam he aced a class, ocam excitedly high fives him and goes “that’s awesome, dude!” even though ocam knew about it the minute darem walked into the room in a good mood. ocam knows that non-betazoids are put off by telepathic and empathetic abilities. it’s not that he’s dishonest in his reactions, but he has to wait till his non-telepathic friends tell him the news verbally before he allows himself to react.

but with sam, he can’t read her thoughts because she’s a photonic. he has to make effort to understand her, needs her words and facial expressions to piece her feelings together. and he feels like as a betazoid, that should unnerve him but it doesn’t. he can let his guard down around her, he can enjoy her genuineness and love for life without having to hold back on his own feelings.

and she’s SO expressive. there’s never any deception with her. she wears her heart fully on her sleeves. and that’s why he falls in love with her.

because reblogging is how tumblr works and I'm very tired of being scolded for enjoying romance in fiction while aroace and the utter blindness in the community to the fact that sexism absolutely plays a part in how much romance is allowed to exist or not in mainstream media.
