Ha ha seriously tho.
we’d probably already have hoverboards if we didn’t spend so much time arguing over whether women are people and if they should be allowed to do science
I mean yeah cause hover boards are more essential to life than basic fucking human rights.
you probably misunderstood this post
Edit: We'd probably have hoverboards by now if we stopped spending time arguing over whether women are people or if they should be allowed to do science, and just give women equal rights and opportunities as men.
itsdisneyfreaks:
Frozen Fun Fact!! Wow who knew that Elsa had more strands of hair then Rapunzel!
crazy how disney seems to make a new program for animating hair with every movie they produce but when it comes to animating diverse expressions and faces for women it’s "really really difficult"
this is like the professional animation level equivalent of that kid in middle school who drew really detailed anime eyes and then botchamania’d a shitty face around it because they didn’t want to put effort into anything else
WHO FUCKIBG CARES!!!! WHO CARES!!!! ITS A. N ICE MOVIE IT LOOKS GOOD!!!!!!!! SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT FROZEN ALREADY
i dont understand. you subjectively think it’s a good movie so people who find the visual effects/animation to be subpar/find the movie/it’s production to be problematic have to shut the fuck up about frozen already??
Well, a lot of people care. People like my who have hopes of working in the animation and visual storytelling field care. People who can critique a film care. People who simply enjoy children’s films care but because their opinions fall on the negative spectrum you have to throw a tantrum “SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT FROZEN ALREADY WHO CARES”? Why are you so upset. No one was even talking about you. Why are you taking a film made by thousands of hands so personally.
Listen, I’ll level with you. I watched the movie and I don’t remember ever thinking to myself “Wow this is bad.”
That’s not the problem here—the movie can still be perfectly enjoyable even if it has a laundry list of flaws. It’s subjective. The problem is that, as far as visuals/story go, the movie fell…flat. Sure, the visual effects for the snow were wildly pleasant to look at, and, considering it’s a film called “Frozen,” yeah, it’s good they focused on that (it’s not, however, a film about hair, so why waste funds and effort on short hair that will be maintained in a braid for the entirety of the movie? This isn’t tangled, or even brave, where hair is a defining feature of the character. So why was Tonic needed at all? Especially when Elsa’s hair in the final product didn’t even HAVE much movement to it at all in the end anyway? Her bangs stayed clumped together. The existing hair programs should’ve been enough. Sure they played with 400,000 individual strands of hair, but the question is, why bother? I understand it’s important to always be willing to pioneer new roads but, to me, it seems superfluous.) but it’s also a movie about two girls.
Girls who….look pretty much identical when you strip away the textures, clothing, hair. You’re left with Rapunzel, basically, except with a weirder Eye Size to nose-mouth-chin ratio (with elsa being by far the worst of the bunch.)
sure, i get it, theyre sisters, but…would it kill disney to have a little diversity? It’s FUN designing characters who look WAY different from each other. In fact, my sister and I look hardly alike at all!
Familial faces are diverse as hecky. So why were the only two female characters in the entire movie (A MOVIE AIMED AT LITTLE GIRLS WHO ARE PRETTY MUCH CONFIRMED TO BE THE MOST SELF CONSCIOUS ABOUT THEIR APPEARANCES) identical in face shape and body (and why did the myriad of other female characters in the original story get completely cut? Yeah, I get it, hetero romances are IMPORTANT (?) but did the (wholly unnecessary to the plot) Duke or his henchmen need to be men? What about Big Summer Blow Out dude? Olaf? Sven?
They all had to be guys (guys who happen to run the gamut in physical appearance in pretty much every aspect aside from race)?
How about the weird troll people. I guess my initial problem with them watching the movie was that they were glaringly…out of place. Not design wise, but story wise. Considering how I see no one talking about how great they were, I think it’s safe in saying this was probably obvious to a lot of people. My primary issue with the trolls, however, is far less obvious (in fact, it’s something I didn’t even really think about until quite some time after watching the film.)
These trolls knew Anna was engaged, right? (I’m pretty sure they did)
So why did they sing a whole musical number telling her to forget her man and marry Kristoff instead? Not only is that fucking rude, they also completely wrap Anna up in their little number allt he way up until the marital ceremony, stripping her of her own agency. She isn’t able to offer a single word of protest throughout the entire thing. That’s a huge problem?
Anna’s entire character is played off as a joke. She’s conned into being engaged to a man who wants to use her, and her stupidity is pretty much the source of half the film’s comedic fodder—look at anna, falling in love naively, look at anna, unable to climb a cliff, look at anna, who goes off into the cold without anything to keep her warm. Anna is the butt of almost every joke. Elsa’s not much better, running away from all her problems and deciding she can just….solve everything by…what? isolating herself? from everyone, even her own sister who wants to help her? If Elsa had had a strong redemption arc, this might’ve worked better as an inspiration for people who suffer from things like anxiety and depression but…she doesn’t. Nothing happens in the film that Elsa is ever in control of. Her story culminates with her having an “aha” moment at the end that, surprise, her sister really loves her. But it’s not something that Elsa realized on her own, and it required zero effort on her part at all. (Arguably, in my opinion, you could’ve replaced her with a sexy lamp and it could’ve filled the same role. Anna grew up with lamp and it has sentimental value. Some outside force causes lamp to leave. Ann wants to return lamp. Hans wants to destroy lamp. Lamp is far away. Lamp is taken back by Hans. Anna sacrifices herself to protect the lamp.
People always are quick to point out that Frozen is important because in the end sisterly love saved the day….but that’s the same for Lilo and Stitch. In fact, familial/friendly love saves the day in quite a few disney films. I could probably count on one hand the number of times true love’s kiss is the answer to the problem in a disney movie. Sure, what Frozen did was…nice, I appreciate the thought, but it’s not as revolutionary as some people make it out to be, which is another huge problem (a problem unrelated to Frozen in particular). We live in a society where we are genuinely surprised when women (or, I guess, platonic relationships) save the day.
I’m not gonna touch the issue of Saami people and ethnicity because I’m not Saami (nor do I even know anyone who is Saami) so it’s not my place to judge. However, it should be important to note than for every one post praising Disney for it’s inclusion of Saami culture from Saami users, there’s another post slamming it for appropriation from other Saami users.
I could go on.
I get it—these are all tired arguments that have been played out over and over and over and over again. But honestly, so have all of the wonderful things that have been said about frozen. If we can still talk about Frozen and all it’s great things, why can’t we talk about Frozen and all it’s problematic elements? Arguably, they’re more important. I don’t listen to a critique so I can hear praise—the point of a critique is so that you learn from your mistakes and improve.
KEYSMASHING “SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP WHO CARES” IS NOT A WAY TO RESPOND TO CRITICISM (especially when youre not the one being criticized)
it’s a childish way to look at things. Just because it’s a film made for little girls does NOT mean that we can let the bad slide.
Also i’m sorry this post is written like shit and all other the place and i didnt source anything other than sexy lamp but i’m mobile and i have like 3 hours to finish my homework bUT THIS POST GOT ME REALLY STEAMED OK.
