“colby santos.” rio was a little beaten up, but that was quickly becoming a normal thing for him now. he didn’t want to go to bash again, it was becoming too much of a habit and he was trying to be a little more independent. how could he always be running to him when he had a life of his own to deal with? “what, i can’t drop by and see a friend?” rio frowned a little and leaned against the counter, pressing his knuckles into colby’s thigh. “maybe. but you’ll never get it out of me.” he paused. “what are we drinking, huh? i want in.”
it was standard to see each other with a beat up face now, that’s how it had been since the day they meet. both rio and colby joined the cobra’s around the same time, quickly becoming friends; surprisingly. colby had never been good at making friends, but there was something about rio that just worked for him. after the hookups started, things changed between them, colby’s feelings developed but he was good at hiding them, he always had been. “not when you’re the friend, prick.” colby shook his head, eyes focused on where rio’s knuckles were pressed into his thigh before they drifted up to look at his face. his gaze stopped at rio’s tattoo on his throat, staring at the obvious love bite in the middle of it. “been with vanya, huh?”

“ of course you were. i don’t know what i expected. ” she says, the smile on her face faltering momentarily as she turns back to her drink. her deep-seated dislike of both gangs is not much of a secret, at least not to those close to her ── she may associate with a few select members from both sides, but that doesn’t mean that she has to like what they do. “ please. i don’t think rio could mean to me if he actively tried. ” she continues, swiftly waving off his concern as she sips at her manhattan slowly. “ i’m fine, really. i’m alive, which is good considering the situation this town is in. what about you ? anything going on besides your evil plotting ? ”
“you and your sass can fight me, princess.” colby knows that maria hates what he’s apart of, but she doesn’t know his reasonings. no one does, he’s never told anyone about his father, it’s just a thing where if they know, they know. however, maria was like family to him and he was just going to disregard all gang things while he was with her. “true, rio’s a little fuck to everyone but you. you’re a little saint in his eyes. personally, i think there’s something wrong with his eyes, you’re a little fucker.” he orders himself a drink, downing it as soon as it’s placed in front of him. “same shit, different day, i guess. still working on the warehouse, i have half a kitchen now. it’s looking pretty decent. what about you, my girl?”
“rio vasquez.” he’d been sitting on his kitchen counter, making himself yet another drink when he’d heard the door - the unmissable screech when it slid open. when he’d converted the warehouse into some kind of plausible place to live, he never fixed that door; making it a little bit of security so no one would sneak on him. “the fuck are you doing in my house, my dude?” nicknames were colby’s thing, he’d give someone as many nicknames as he could, probably in the same sentence. “miss me, did you?” // @hcneycakc

“ ugh. do people usually react positively to your use of nicknames ? ” she asks, eyes narrowing as a fond smile spreads across features. it had been hard for her to make friends once she got back to valdez, mainly because she spent almost every waking moment working at the hospital. of course, it didn’t particularly help that her blunt personality doesn’t mesh well with many others. colby was one of the few people in this town that she’d call a friend rather than a mere acquaintance , no matter how irritating he may be at times. “ how nice of you to finally show up. ” there’s no bite behind her words, manhattan momentarily forgotten as her elbow knocks against his arm. “ what was it that held you up this time ? too busy being a dark and moody asshole ? ”
“yeah, they do, actually. they love my nicknames, darlin’.” he shakes his head, eyes rolling as he looks at her. colby wasn’t the best at being someone’s friend, he was used to people wanting things from him or it having a negative ending. he usually fucked up. his general thing was fucking things up, his own special talent. he was rude and he was an asshole but it all came from his past - not that he ever talked about his past - barely anyone knew about that, all they needed to know was who he is now. “fuck off, i was doing gang shit. plotting and all that evil shit i do. how’re you, bub? dickhead brother being nice to you or should i beat him up?”

born as a last resort for happiness for his parents, colby was an only child. their attempt at saving their relationship with a baby didn’t work and they were filing for divorce before his first birthday.
he lives a fairly normal life, alternating which parent he was staying with every week. he’s seven when his father stops coming to visit, killed in an ‘accident’. he learns later in life that he worked for the savages and he was killed on a job. that’s when his hatred for the savages began.
he’s twelve when he runs away from home, he spends his nights at his father’s grave at valdez cemetery, nothing but the clothes on his back and the bag of random shit he’d grabbed on his way out of the house. his reason for leaving was his stepdad, the man that had beaten both him and his mother more times than he could count. his mother told him to run, but he needed to be close to keep an eye on her.
at fifteen, he’s trying to get his way into the cobra’s, ready for revenge. he’s living in an old cobra’s warehouse, keeping out of sight unless he needs to be seen. he’s working his way into the gang, but it’s taking far too long. the rest of his time is spent partying - drugs, sex and alcohol are the three things taking over his life at this point. it’s bordering on addiction.
he’s eighteen when he’s finally in with the cobra’s, he’s still living in the old warehouse, converted into his own home with weapons stashed wherever they could be out of plain sight. he’s one of the cobra’s assassin’s, but his first two kills are personal - the man who killed his father and his stepdad.
he’s now been part of the cobra’s for seven years, he’s twenty five and covered head to toe in tattoos. if he’s not on a job, you’ll find him in the middle of a party, drink in one hand, a cigarette in the other and whoever he was taking home that night under his arm. no matter what he’s doing though, he’s always ready for war.
