emergency

I dunno if anyone even remembers me here, but hi. It’s me Serra and I’m about to be homeless.

I’ve posted this on my facebook and literally only three people have shared it and it seems no one else cares there, so I’m hoping maybe someone will here???

I updated yall that Mom passed away, well... me and sis still haven’t found jobs. All we need is enough money to get to oregon.... that’s all we’re hoping for at this point in time. Otherwise, we’re going to be homeless in a town that’s pretty shitty.

So... maybe some kind soul here will care that if we don’t get the money by the 31st, we’re gonna be without a house.

Been a long time... I’m sorry

It’s been awhile and I wish I could say that I was here with good news, but... I’m not.

I'm gonna be short and sweet about this cause my sister isn't up, which means I'm alone while typing this and I know she'd be upset/worried. So here goes...

At the beginning of November, Momma was put in the hospital because she was extremely weak and confused -- Alzheimer-like confused -- and she was diagnosed with acute renal failure. Her kidneys' function was less than 10 percent or whatever of what they were supposed to be. She was put on dialysis the third week of November and she came home the 29th.

Still weak, still a little confused, but more like herself than she'd been in weeks. There was a long road ahead of us -- we were changing her, as in diaper-wise, and feeding her. We had to put her in her computer chair just to wheel her around the house so she could get to where she needed to go...

December 1st, my sister Kaycey went to wake her up so we could get her ready for her next dialysis treatment. And she wouldn't wake.

Momma had passed in her sleep. The coroner ruled it as her heart gave out.

I don't really know what else to say... Things haven't gotten easier and they won't be for a long time. We miss her so. fucking. much.

I'm going to be doing a major revamp of this whole blog because I honestly really want to just delete and start over, but next April will be officially 5 years since I found this site and joined, so I don't want to do that.

Hey

I really just popped on to let everyone know I'm still breathing and alive. Ah... things have been pretty crazy around here, good days and bad-- life, you know?

Ah, Mom's doing relatively okay. Found out the chemo did some damage to her heart and where it should be pumping out 60% of the blood, it's only doing 38%.... if it was doing any less, they'd have to put a pace maker in, which really scares me, but... that's life, right?

She's trying to get back to school and, of course, nothing is ever easy, so they're giving her a hard time with financial aid and the registering and everything else.

As for me, nothing new really. Trying to help Mom set up an etsy shop to sell jewelry to make money. Other than that, pretty boring.

But anyways.. like I said, just popped on a minute to say hi and I hope everyone's been doing well.

I'll try to get around to being here more, but I can't promise anything...

Okay so, I've been a pretty awful friend here, but I really need to get the word out about an important friend of mine.

He is about to be homeless, he is 17 years old and about to be sleeping in his car.

He's a wonderful artist and does mostly EunHae or Super Junior related work. He's opened up commissions to get the money he needs to get somewhere safe.

Please, please, if you can't afford a commission, spread this post for me okay? I, myself, can't do anything about this, but I'm hoping a kind person out there could help him out even if it's only getting the word out.

I think I’ve posted about this before, but I can never get over how amazing “Out of the Box” actually was. If you’re looking for a truly feminist children’s show, this is my #1 recommendation.

For starters, the two main characters (who are seen in the gif) are both from marginalised groups but are not stereotypes even a little bit. And as I recall, there was even an episode where they both shared their culture with the children is a positive light.

Secondly, the show is very anti-classist. The premise of the show is that the two main characters are taking care of the children after school until their parents get home from work. They do things such as arts and crafts, and rely heavily on cheap products that can usually be found around the home.

Thirdly, the show was pretty progressive when it came to gender roles and gender expression. As I recall, there was one episode in which the children wanted to do a play about a princess and a dragon. They decided to make puppets by drawing on lunch bags with markers. One of the children, who appeared to be a cis girl, declared that she wanted to be a strong and scary dragon. Another one of the children, who appeared to be a cis boy, declared that he wanted to be a beautiful princess. There was no shaming for this, and no talk about “proper gender roles”. Instead, the two main characters simply applauded the children for the creativity and helped them create their puppets.

I actually might watch all of the episode again one day (if I can find them) and create a full list of reasons why people should watch Out of the Box. But for now, I’ll just leave you with the episodes that I remember.
