“Not a bet I’m willing to take. Not with you.” Truth be told, she had fallen completely head over heels for him and though the situation would’ve probably just ended up with a couple of guys beating the shit out of each other, Jess was in no position to risk it. She was too invested in this to not be worried, especially not after what happened last time. “I was walking away, Seth. I was handling it. You say I’m not territory, but not letting me take care of my own issues, is pretty much doing that.” Things were different with both of them, and she was trying to accept it. When he put himself into a relationship, he was all in, but with her, as all in as she was, she was still holding onto her independence, which meant not turning to him for every single thing. She’d speak her mind and be assertive if he was acting this way, however. It wasn’t to belittle him and she trusted him enough to not actually do too much damage, but she didn’t trust anyone else with him. She didn’t trust that someone wouldn’t try to hurt and she wasn’t about to lose him in any way over a stupid bar fight because he wasn’t using his head. “I want you to think before you act. To be careful and not put yourself in a position where Mason and I could potentially be left without you. I get it, it’s just a bar fight, but you’re not invincible and sometimes I feel like you think you are. And who knows if next time it’ll be just a bar fight.”
Seth took a step closer to her, cutting the distance between them to only a couple feet. He wanted to know if it might have been safe to come closer, but at the moment he wasn’t willing to risk a slap to the face. Not that he was exactly worried she would hurt him, but he didn’t know where the conversation may lead. “So you want me to just sit there and let that happen? Let you handle it however? I can’t say or do anything?” He didn’t know if he could do that. It wasn’t in him to let an insult to anyone he loved unpunished. He took another step towards her and stood flush in front of her. “I’m sorry. I couldn’t stand what they were doing to you, I had to step in. I had to do something. I’m impulsive and irrational. I’m sorry.” He couldn’t fault her for being scared for him, and he wouldn’t, but the idea of doing nothing just didn’t sit well with him either. “I’ll try to stay out of it next time. I’ll try my best.”
