entertaining/ Farrah & Seth

“I have time,” Farrah responded, smiling faintly back at Seth. “I would rather be sure.” Though she wished it wasn’t true, her old training returned to the forefront of her mind. She was never meant to contribute to mass casualties, never a piece of a shock and awe campaign. She was the silent partner, an efficient and deadly predator meant to slither in, strike, and slither out undetected. One target, one mission. The idea of allowing that many to die, without confirming their identities first, made her uneasy. It went against every lesson she’d ever been taught.
“Better to muzzle him than have him bite another dog,” she shrugged, “or a person. People would sue for that nowadays, try and put him down.” Learning of Dino’s hatred of rabbits amused her more than she would admit, but imagining what he would do with one if he caught it was less amusing. “Well, Max loves other dogs,” Farrah said, setting down her glass to look back at Seth, “but he can be a bit too friendly. I’m not sure how well it would go.” It was a nice idea, though, so she paused before continuing, “maybe someday we can work up to it.”
“I guess you're right. We have nothing but time,” Seth continued, rueful when he considered their sorry state for too long. On the run from the government with no resources, real education, or future in sight. Seth had managed, he even liked the life he had now, but it was still difficult not to consider the nagging 'what if’. Seth knew Farrah had to wonder too, how different her life could have been. She was bright and resourceful, if she'd had the chance Seth was sure Farrah could have done anything she liked. Instead she was walking dogs. “What would make you sure?” Seth asked, leaning a little towards her as he waited, too curious, for her answer.
He nodded, sighing a little as he absently rubbed at his dog bite. “I might have turned him over to the humane society if he was...adoptable,” Seth shook his head, smiling despite himself. Farrah was probably right that Dino wouldn't do well meeting Max, but the idea appealed to Seth, if only because of the implication that meant Farrah intended to hang around at least enough she wanted their dogs to meet. It was oddly personal, Seth never thought he'd be the person introducing their dog to a friend's. “If you're done eating, I might let him out,” Seth remarked, standing up to set his plate on the counter. “Can I get you more wine?” He offered, mostly because Seth had no idea what he'd do with it if they didn't finish it tonight.
