The list of (somewhat ridiculous things) that I’ve struggled to let go of: 1. My second pepper grinder. They grind with slightly different size pieces so I brought both with me to the new house before deciding that was crazy and I don’t actually care what size my pepper flakes are 2. The tiny bottles of gin (I keep thinking they’d be useful for a picnic, but really the big bottle is much more useful, picnic or otherwise) 3. A decorative box of lemongrass tea (a guest might want some and what would they think if I was only able to offer then varieties of herbal tea I actually like?) 4. 6 of a set of 12 drinking glasses. My new apartment is deliberately small, I could have 6 friendly people around for dinner and maybe 8 if two people sat on the couch to eat rather than at the table. Somehow splitting the set seemed such a big decision, like I couldn’t go to Kmart and get more identical glasses if I ever did need to have 12 for dinner. 5. The Oxford English reference dictionary and 2.5kg of it, rendered obsoleted by the internet but I’ve somehow internalised that it’s a sign of ignorance not to have a dictionary in the house.
