it was something of a relief — finally being able to share this aspect of his life with mave. finally being able to live out the dream that they had both promised to achieve since they were kids: albeit with a few minor adjustments that really ... neither of them could have anticipated. it was a rocky road: to put it lightly — a journey filled with confusion and doubt ... but they'd finally made it. and even though felix was most - likely set to leave the mcqueen bubble at the end of the season: their shared dream had finally come true.

but in the height of all of the success that came with reaching their goal ... none of it compared to the steps that they had taken behind the scenes. another journey that seemed to be made up of one complication after another — until the truth could no longer be swallowed down. and despite his own fears of it ... he's glad that it finally came to light. a joy that still seems to radiate from him, as he emerges from the bathroom: hair still wet, and a towel wrapped tightly around his waist — seeing mave on his hotel bed does nothing but bring a smile to his face. and he likes that he's finally able to have his best friend ... his boyfriend ... with him in all of this. even if they did still have to continue to sneak around. even if they did still have to deny that they were completely in love: and had been for years ...

yet, when mave turns his phone to show him what was on the screen — he can tell that there is something unspoken that lingers in the air. a thickness that he tries to cut through in the only way that he can. ❝ aw, think they'll give it an ' L ' name? might have to text landon with some ideas ... or penelope, because i don't think landon's unblocked my number yet ... ❞ the picture itself isn't the issue: it's cute, and he finds that he can only be happy for the two of them ... but when he spies mave's expression shifting slightly: he takes it as an indication to plant himself upon the edge of the bed next to him, his hand automatically settling upon his thigh. ❝ why can't we? ❞ he asks as if he doesn't already know the answer. that by doing that — it leaves them vulnerable to uncharted waters ... and as much as he hates it, he knows what would come to them if they ever did reveal their own relationship to the public. but why couldn't they love each other in the same way? why couldn't they be proud and open about what they had? that wasn't fair. ❝ i have a beautiful picture of you from the other night ... though instagram might not like it. ❞ he tries to suppress his laugh, before raising his hand to rest at the side of mave's face — fingers tucking damp hair behind his ear. ❝ you know ... if that's something that you want mave, then i'm all for it. i'd love to be able to tell the world that you're mine. ❞

❛  oh  shut  up  ,  ❜  he  still  laughs  quietly  at  the  jab  at  the  love  for  L  names  in  the  mcqueen  family  ,  but  ...  his  heart  still  aches  .  ❛  i  dont  know  ,  pen  talked  to  me  about  some  baby  names  ,  but  i  dont  think  any  of  them  started  with  an  L  .  ❜  a  sigh  ,  he  shakes  his  head  ,  and  when  felix  lays  down  and  rests  his  head  on  his  thigh  ,  he  moves  his  hand  to  run  his  fingers  through  his  pretty  ,  thick  hair.  soothing  motions  that  are  supposed  to  calm  him  and  felix  at  the  same  time  ,  though  ...  felix  is  already  calm  ,  he  is  always  calm  .  ❛  you  know  why  we  cant  ...  ❜  maves  voice  is  quiet  ,  almost  as  if  hes  worried  anyone  could  hear  .  but  its  just  the  two  of  them  in  his  hotel  room  ,  sharing  warmth  and  comfort  .

❛  fuck  off  ,  you  mean  the  pic  where  im  naked  ?  you  wouldnt  post  that  ...  youd  be  jealous  of  anyone  staring  at  it  that  isnt  you  .  ❜  his  chin  dips  ,  his  eyes  meet  felix  and  the  movements  of  his  hand  in  his  hair  stop  momentarily  .  ❛  i  ...  ❜  he  begins  ,  but  then  presses  his  lips  together  .  ❛  we  cant  do  that  .  we  cant  do  what  the  others  do  ...  we  dont  have  pretty  girlfriends  or  wives  ...  we  have  each  other  ,  in  a  sport  that  isnt  really  that  supportive  .  i  dont  think  that  the  other  drivers  would  be  weird  about  it  ...  but  the  fans  ?  i  dont  wanna  know  what  it  would  mean  for  the  team  ,  BOTH  of  our  teams  .  ❜  his  head  shakes  ,  and  its  obvious  that  he  thought  about  this  before  ,  multiple  times  .  ❛  it  just  sucks  to  see  everyone  happy  and  out  ...  while  we  cant  do  the  same  .  ❜  his  fingers  brush  against  felix  cheek  ,  and  he  gives  him  a  soft  smile  .  ❛  but  at  least  here  ,  i  know  that  youre  my  boyfriend  .  ❜  a  soft  chuckle  ,  mave  leans  down  and  brushes  the  tip  of  his  nose  against  felix'  .  ❛  still  sounds  crazy  to  say  it  out  loud  ..  my  boyfriend  .  ❜

hi , mave is landons half brother ... born and raised in vegas baby 🤪 they're very very different ...

they  have  different  hotel  rooms  .  but  since  mave  moved  up  to  formula  one  after  a  lot  of  discussions  and  quite  frankly  :  sleepless  nights  ...  they  havent  really  been  apart  .  traveling  together  ,  despite  being  on  opposite  teams  &  never  spending  a  night  apart  ,  even  after  heated  overtakes  and  glares  on  the  podium  ...  but  there  is  something  missing  ,  mave  realises  .  something  is  missing  while  he  lays  there  on  @twentyniner's  bed  ,  all  showered  and  fresh  .  his  hair  still  damp  ,  fiddling  with  his  thumbs  while  he  waits  for  felix  to  come  out  of  the  shower  .  they  didnt  win  ,  but  they  scored  valuable  points  for  their  teams  .  landon  took  p1  ,  of  course  ,  mave  isnt  too  upset  about  it  .

since  joining  his  older  brother  on  the  team  ,  its  been  better  than  ever  !  ...  and  while  felix  is  still  with  mcqueens  sister  team  ,  no  one  bats  an  eye  when  they  hang  out  together  all  the  time  .  that  &  the  media  knowing  that  theyve  been  friends  since  they  were  just  seven  years  old  .  ❛  hey  .  ❜  mave  says  ,  when  felix  emerges  from  the  bathroom  ,  steam  follows  him  when  he  opens  the  door  and  he  cracks  him  a  tired  but  happy  smile  .  phone  now  in  his  hands  ,  he  raises  it  to  show  the  screen  to  felix  .  ❛  look  ,  landon  and  penelope  posted  something  .  ❜  he  still  isnt  sure  if  landon  really  likes  him  ...  well  ,  he  tolerates  him  at  least  and  maybe  thats  all  mave  can  ask  for  .  but  he  knows  that  penelope  adores  him  ,  and  that  makes  him  feel  better  .

the  photo  updated  ,  is  a  pic  of  the  both  of  them  ...  landons  hand  on  penelopes  growing  belly  &  they  look  at  each  other  with  the  same  look  in  their  eyes  that  mave  only  has  when  he  looks  at  felix  .  and  he  hates  himself  for  it  ,  but  he  feels  a  sting  of  jealousy  in  the  pit  of  his  stomach  .  ❛  isnt  it  cute  ?  ❜  he  tries  to  keep  the  smile  ,  but  fails  .  phone  turned  back  towards  his  own  face  .  ❛  wish  we  could  also  post  stuff  like  that  .  i  got  so  many  pics  of  us  id  love  to  share  with  everyone  ...  ❜
