Getting into fandom through yuri communities is so funny because there are series out there that have had massive popularity and consistently do insane numbers that I have never heard so much as a peep about. Back when I was still doing the ship videos I noticed that one of the top anime/manga by fic count on AO3 is Bungo Stray Dogs, which confused the shit out of me because not only had I never read or watched Bungo Stray Dogs, none of my friends had ever talked to me about it, none of the youtubers I watch had said anything about it, and I had not seen so much as a single piece of fanart, meta or discourse about it. For all I was aware, this series had no fandom to speak of whatsoever and yet 97,000 works on AO3 say otherwise. It's bizarre to think that something which, in terms of numbers, is clearly a massive fandom could evade me so completely, but I guess that's just what happens when your experience is narrowly curtailed to put as many lesbians on your TL as possible
