One of the oldest and richest belief systems in the world is Ifa, which has its origins in the Southwestern region of Nigeria. Our sisters and brothers from this region who endured the middle passage carried their beliefs with them to Cuba, Haiti and Brazil and other parts of the Americas where they evolved into new forms of worship, drawing influence—if only by force—from Catholicism and Christianity.

In Ifa, Eshu-Elegbara (Eleggua in Latin America) is an Orishas who facilitates communication between those who are living, and those who have passed. He is represented in Haiti using the veve symbol above and universally using the colors red and black.

If you could speak to Elegbara and learn from your ancestors past, what would you ask? What would they say?
