i think he’s allowed to revoke consent at any time considering it’s literally himself people are talking about. he realized he got uncomfortable with it, why is it wrong for him to realize that now?

i understand what you are saying, i do! but i also think it's a lot more complicated than that.

hudson is no longer just a person, he is also Hudson Williams the brand. a brand that has been partially created and shaped by the fandom, and therefore it is shared between hudson the human and ourselves.

so when hudson the human suddenly realizes "wait no! i dont want Hudson Williams the brand to be like this anymore" and he makes it known in such an abrupt way and making it sound like a reproach to those who helped shape it after he himself was pushing the brand in that direction too, i believe it is normal for the other side to feel dejected.

I don’t think that everyone who dreams of being an actor understands fandom spaces. Acting is an artistic craft, and aspiring actors typically engage with media through that lens. It’s a different sphere than mainstream fandom. Obviously, any Gen Z guy would understand social media to an extent, but that doesn’t mean he would be aware of the nuances of fandom spaces. Hudson was probably so busy auditioning for things and working full time that he wouldn’t have had time to deep-dive fandoms even if he wanted to.

Saw your post about RPF and Hudson Williams and I was like…I agree

I understand being naive to the situation of fandom spaces and how they will absolutely bulldoze any boundary you have, and going oh what the fuck I don’t want this this isn’t safe for me anymore or the people I love. That is entirely understandable.

But it’s also like…you invited the vampire into your house thinking you two would just hang out and then hired him as your assistant despite knowing that if you invite him in, he could kill you.

You should have never trusted the vampire in the first place. You know what he was capable of. And you did it anyway. And now you’ve been hurt.

I feel the same way about Taylor Swift. She fostered an incredibly parasocial relationship from early on and then when she had enough success she decided she didn’t want it anymore (while still being incredibly parasocial with her own fandom being it’s so intertwined into her branding it can’t ever be dismantled.) I also understand the safety aspect and people being so deranged online. But it’s also like…can we take at least some accountability for the consequences of the actions we chose to make ourselves?

It’s such a weird media landscape today in general. Social media is just so fucking invasive even for me as a normal person that I stopped using it. I can’t imagine the INSANITY that is being famous and being kind of forced to feed into certain things and having to try and find a balance so you can still be a human with the privacy we all deserve.

It’s just fucked all around. People should know to keep RPF to RPF spaces. That includes the people the RPF is about.

I feel really bad for his girlfriend. Because honestly…I would not have it in me mentally to put up with this. She’s a lot stronger than I will ever be.

i agree with a lot of what you said, but i would like to point out that someone who has always dreamed of being a celebrity (or at least an actor) cannot be that naive about parasocial relationships with fans nor do i believe he wasn't adviced on how to handle them.

he still chose to get involved with our spaces (again, made by fans FOR fans), using them to make himself more popular, and then, when they no longer suited him, shit on them.
