Conquistador Part Nine

Ayda’s POV

The pounding in my head forced my sore eyes open. My stomach churned the liquor mixture quickly sending the acid into the back of my throat. I jumped out of the bed to the bathroom, spilling the contents of my stomach into the toilet. The cool tile felt heavenly against my hot skin. This hangover was already kicking my ass and it was only nine thirty.

I snuggled myself back into the plush cotton sheets. My arms reached out for Jared on the other side of the bed, but he wasn’t there. I tried moving closer, thinking maybe I just couldn’t reach him, but still nothing. “Jared?” I propped myself up on my elbows looking around the room. His clothes weren’t on the floor and neither were his shoes or jacket.

I slipped into his Black Fluel tee hanging off a chair at the end of the room and went looking for him. “Jared?” No one was in the kitchen. My throat was still burning from the vomit, I grabbed a glass and poured some orange juice. The sweet taste soothed the bitter twisting of my stomach. I finished off the glass and quickly poured another. Jared’s laptop was sitting half open on the kitchen countertop. Curiosity pulled me towards the computer. I knew I shouldn’t look but I couldn’t help but wonder what he had been looking at. “Jared?” I yelled louder this time, still no response. ‘He must have left, I guess I could just take a peak.’ My little finger lifted up the cover of the laptop exposing the screen.

“Hey, Jared you home?” 'Damn!’ I slammed down the laptop sat down at the other end of the counter. My heart sank into my stomach, who the hell was here? “Hello? Jared?” A man walked into the kitchen. He was extremely attractive and well built. I blushed remembering I was only in Jared’s tee shirt and underwear. “You’re to pretty to be Jared.” I squeaked at his sweet compliment. “I don’t know if he would agree with that, hi I’m Ayda.” “Oh so you’re the one he kicked in the stomach.” Blood rushed to my cheeks, I could feel my temperature rising, I was so embarrassed. “The one and only.” My face fell into my hands with embarrassment. “Don’t be embarrassed, it happens to the best of us. I’m Jared’s brother, Shannon.”

“Oh my gosh! I can’t believe I didn’t recognize you Shannon, I’m sorry.” Shannon set down his backpack and started a pot of coffee. “Don’t worry about it, you want a cup?” I nodded to him and moved the stool closest to him. “So where’s Jared?” Shannon set the cup in front of me then poured one for himself. “Your guess is as good as mine, I haven’t seen him since last night.” The warm coffee soothed my throat and had a sweet after taste unlike other coffees.

“Can I ask you something Shannon?” I held the warm cup with both hands regretting my words. He sipped from his cup and raised his brow at me. “What has Jared told you about me?” Shannon smiled, “How did I know that’s what you were going to ask?” He set his cup down on the counter and sat on the stool next to mine. “He’s only told me..”

“Hey guys?” Jared stood wide eyed in the doorway. I wanted to hear what Shannon had to say, but I was glad to see Jared. “Hi!” I jumped down from my stool and skipped over to where he stood. My lips pressed hard against his cheek and my arms wrapped around his waist. His body tensed as his hand patted my back. 'What the fuck was that?’ I looked up at Jared, his eyes were locked with Shannon’s. “Where have you been?” Shannon’s face was ice cold, never breaking eye contact with Jared. Jared’s eyes shifted to me then back to Shannon’s icy glare. His blue eyes were comforting but still seemed very distant. “I went to get breakfast.” My eyes focused to his empty hands, if he went to get breakfast then where was the food? “Ayda, can you give Jared and I a second alone.”

Suicide squad UK
