This was a commission! I had always heard of Shenmue, but it was a game I never played until recently. I bought the HD collection and played through most of the first one. It shows its age, for sure, but it was still fun to go through, if only to appreciate its legacy. It was the first true "blockbuster" budget game. The budget for the first Shenmue was around $60 million dollars. Which is staggering for a game that came out in 1999. The estimated budget for Metal Gear Solid was around $15 million dollars, and MGS only came out a year before Shenmue (or maybe it was the same year?)
