The San Francisco Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines (SFCHRP) unveiled their shadow play, “Karapatang Pantao” (Human Rights), a shadow play dedicated to all victims of human rights abuses in the Philippines and inspired by the courageous story of Melissa Roxas who was illegally abducted and tortured by elements of the Armed Forces of the Philippines before being released after six days due to protests in the Philippines and pressure from the international community.
Yesterday in Corazon de Jesus, San Juan, police arrested Maritess Bacolod, a PWD and a leader of Gabriela Corazon de Jesus and Sandigang Maralitang Nagkakaisa (SAMANA). Presiding Judge Marianito Santos of Branch 57, San Juan Metropolitan Trial Court also issued warrants of arrest for other leaders which was dated/issued May 24, 2012 for failure to appear in court the same day the arrest warrant wa
s issued. To serve the warrant, police patrolled the community and conspicuously asked around, name-baited and face-tagged people in the vicinity, creating an atmosphere of fear and terror. Why the police tried to serve the arrest warrant ONLY NOW but issued as early as May 24, 2012 for a crime of simple disobedience to an agent of person in authority (which event prompting the filing the case has yet to be made known) is a big question. Today, November 30, 2012, PNoy is expected at Pinaglabanan Shrine, beside Corazon de Jesus, to be the local government's guest of honor in the celebration of Bonifacio Day. Relevant events prior to this arrest are the January 25, 2011 and January 11, 2012 demolitions in Corazon de Jesus, San Juan which the residents resisted. The residents also launched 'tumbalik', re-construction of their homes, in the community in summer of 2012. Also on November 26, three days before the arrest, a film showing part of a human rights film festival was held in the community. Police in four patrol cars and several motorcycles arrived at the then-ending film program and intimidated the residents, verbally charging them with 'illegal assembly.' Photo is a scanned copy of the arrest warrant for Corazon Buban, one of the community leaders.

The Disappeared (FINAL)
The concept was inspired by the OBB of 4400, a tv show where 4400 people were abducted by aliens. Let's hope the enforced disappearances in the Philippines does not reach that number. There has been almost 200 enforced disappearances in our country since 2001. Also, check out all the other PSA's from other indie filmmakers. Just key in the tag - free jonas burgos movement.

'Nothing has changed' since Martial Law - Mrs. Burgos
Mrs. Edita Burgos, widow of the late press freedom icon Joe Burgos and mother of missing activist Jonas, is a witness of the oppression of the Filipino people during the martial law period. Fast forward to present, Mrs. Burgos said that with the continuing human rights violations, nothing has changed in the country despite the restoration of the so-called democracy.
