does this strike anyone else as the mirror of the argument "if there weren't women in prostitution, the rate of rape would be so much higher"? as if human exploitation can actually be a good thing because it (supposedly) prevents some kind of other abuse or injustice.
anyway all porn is a scourge on society and needs to be abolished. "normalization" is not a good thing for ANY of it because pornography is nothing but the objectification of human beings, intrinsically involves the abuse and exploitation of persons, in particular women and girls, and facilitates more and more virulent and violent misogyny. here's to identifying anyone who creates, distributes, or watches porn as the "pervert deviants of the future".

The whole "as a woman I think male centric language is fine" sentiment is frustrating. Women's identities have been subsumed by the men in their lives for eons. Think about Mary Magdalene and how her name is odd because it isn't relating her to a father or brother or husband, but rather a place. Think about how traditionally in Ireland (and probably many other places), married women are usually referred to as "so and so's wife" instead of by their own name or even "Mrs". Or how in the US it's formally "Mr and Mrs [full husband's name]" and women are expected to give up their last names (which were solely their fathers' name anyway). There isn't some moral imperative to do things like this and it renders women invisible again and again. Men deciding that they are the default gender in the english language isn't poetic and it certainly isn't just.
companies pushing automatic updates on people's life-saving medical equipment, this is actually insane
“It is late, but the darkness breaks open. Mercy grows in you. The green fires of night burn through the same air that lifted birds. And this is how a whole life unfolds—in minutes too painful and rich for you to bear them. Copper roofs holding sun, the smell of thyme, cements laced with rain. You were a child and then a storm. You were a garden. Even as you die you will not cease to dream.” Joanna Klink, in "The Nightfields"

“never assume anything in a fic is accurate and definitely never try anything from a fic at home” is usually good advice but sometimes a fanfic tells you “bacon wrapped baked pears would probably taste good” and in that one specific situation you can 100% assume fic is absolutely accurate and you should definitely try that one at home.
this is the fic by the way. I do recommend this fic for reasons other than the extremely good snack advice but the snack advice is definitely part of it
also this is the pear recipe I found.
I made these again today. My brother described them as “a meal for a Roman emperor” and “the fanciest thing possible one thousand years ago”
@perekur I swear it was pretty crispy 😅 (not quite as crispy as pan-fried bacon but thats a hazard of the cooking method) it’s just that everything in this photo is badly lit and soaked in honey
Update: I still owe @etherati thanks for bringing bacon wrapped pears into my life.
Two things I have learned about this pear recipe since last update is that it’s best to buy the pears a few days ahead and let them soften, and also that 400F is better for crisping the bacon than the 375 in the recipe.
On less necessary modifications, two slices of bacon is better than one especially if you have large pears, and for substitute ingredients cream cheese instead of goat cheese and adding chopped green onions (they were in my fridge and going to go bad) can make a nice slightly more savory variant. Probably the next experiment will be adding alcohol to the process. The fic has red wine and I think that would be great, though I also want to try mead (for alignment with the honey flavor) and brandy (maybe kirsch? I bet that would be good)
Reblogging this again bc I was just thinking about it the other day when I was at the store looking to see if they had pears.
Also: If you don’t specifically want the half-pear look for the nice aesthetic of, say, serving to company, I’ve found cutting the pears up into bite-size pieces before putting them in the pan and then chopping up and sprinkling the other ingredients over the top is perfect for even cooking, good flavor distribution, and ideal ratios of each ingredient in bites.

The BBC have released their incredible, expansive library of bizarre and obscure sound effects, all available for free download.
THIS will be sooo good for my soundboard. Those online sessions are about to become even better :D
First music, then voice modifiers… Now this. Perfect.
Also, I’m pretty sure it can be used for a lot of other activities.
Yay, no more Soundbible!

: Can't run Windows 11? Don't want to? There are surprisingly legal options
The 2021 LTSC is available in the plain vanilla version, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, with end of mainstream support scheduled January 12, 2027, and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021, with an extended end date of January 13, 2032. They are not quite the same as the ordinary consumer editions of Windows 10. They don't include the Windows Store or any "modern" apps. Apart from the Edge browser, they have almost nothing else: no OneDrive, no Weather or Contacts apps, and no Windows Mail or whatever it's called this week.
...no OneDrive, Copilot AI, or all of the other useless crapware cluttering up the Start menu? AND patches/support through 2032??
Don't threaten me with a good time, Microsoft.
