In the image, we see an incredibly annoyed Boyd (Colfer) being forced to choke down whatever his mother (Krige) is saying to him. The pair will have a tumultuous relationship throughout the film, with our exclusive first look shot fully leaning into those wildly complicated family dynamics.
Described in the synopsis as “an Irish playboy,” Colfer’s latest role will see the American actor don an accent as he stars as the well-to-do heir of a gorgeous family estate. As mentioned, he has a rather rough relationship with his mother, whom he loves to torture by showing off the many handsome men who he brings home for flings — constantly reminding her that she’ll never have grandchildren to carry on the family legacy. But, when tragedy strikes, Boyd is rendered incapacitated without the use of his hands and forced to rely on his mother. Of course, being lavishly wealthy has its upsides, so when Boyd is the recipient of a top-of-the-line technological breakthrough in the form of mechanical hands, it looks like everything will be as it once was. Unfortunately, the hands have a mind of their own, both when they’re on Boyd’s body and when they’re not attached to anything, allowing chaos to commence.
Chris Colfer is giving off some serious playboy vibes in an exclusive to Collider first look at his upcoming role in Glenn McQuaid’s The Restoration at Grayson Manor. As part of our ongoing Exclusive Preview event, we’re showcasing the film, which will soon celebrate its world premiere at the upcoming Fantastic Fest. Also featuring performances from Alice Krige (Chariots of Fire), Gabriela Garcia Vargas (Pagan Peak), Declan Reynolds (The Gaelic Curse), and Daniel Adegboyega (Big Boys Don’t Cry), the film sees Colfer’s Boyd Grayson clashing against his family legacy until things take an incredibly dark and supernatural turn.
Where You’ve Seen Chris Colfer
Colfer’s name will forever be synonymous with Fox’s long-running musical comedy Glee, in which he appeared as Kurt Hummel. During his time on the series, which also featured the likes of Lea Michele, Jane Lynch, Darren Criss, and the late Cory Monteith, the actor nabbed a slew of awards, including a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or Television Film.
In the years since Glee took its final bow, Colfer wrote, starred in, and produced a film titled Struck by Lightning and has also published numerous books. His appearance in The Restoration at Grayson Manor marks his first feature-length project in nearly a decade, with the last being Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie.
