If you want to dive deep into the state of the Russian Defense Industry, you can start with this 2019 report on its mismanagement. State companies that universally have offshore bank accounts they transfer funds to for no purpose? Check. Fines for failing to deliver products being “temporarily suspended” for over a decade as the companies in question get new contracts at the same time? Check. Payrolls for employees that don’t exist, sometimes going so far as to have 50% of the entire workforce on a project be imaginary? Oh we got that for ya, check. Its certainly not a house of cards but simple measures of money spent do not capture the real picture of what Russia can actually produce.

this movie scared the fuck out of me when i was younger. it was one of several horror movies my mom would watch in the same room as me my entire upbringing. shes always been huge on them. i like horror stories and tales about the american wilderness but slasher horror and anything approximating true crime are a bit too sensitive for me. the scene where they pour salt onto his wounds is embedded in my memory. when i looked it up to see i was hoping it would have had a lot of bad reviews and been much cornier than i remember, but apparently it was very well received. i recommend to anyone who is into torture films.
