Behind the Plate

I have played softball since I was about 7 years old. I have traveled around the country and outside of the country playing softball. It's always been apart of my life. Catcher is basically the only position I have played. 

Some people may look at a softball catcher and think how tiring it may be to squat every pitch or how big their thighs are but really there is much more to the position then just those things. Some may think that all we do it sit behind the plate and wait patiently for the ball to come to us and we just catch it, but who ever is thinking that is wrong. As a catcher, you are the leader of the field and must have your eyes on everything and everyone. There are tons of things running through our minds. We must have the pitcher under control, call the pitch and then once the pitch is thrown all the action begins. There are thousands of different circumstances that could happen at this point and as a catcher we must be on top of every play telling our teammates where to go and what to do. 

It goes without saying, all the action happens behind the plate. This is a very aggressive demanding position that takes a special person to handle.
