fingers wrapped around the plastic menu, eyeâs trying not to stare at abigail for too long. he needed cold water - or ice - anything to stop his cheeks from burning.  really, he needed a distraction which is why his gaze trained on the menu. the words becoming blurred and jumbled. he knew what he wanted to eat, james had come to this dinner numerous of times, but abigail did that thing where she giggled and made his train of thought go poof.
a deeper shade of red filled his cheeks. the menu no longer being a shield as his hand came up to mess with his hair.  he knew she was just being friendly, as she always was. hell, everyone told him to give up, that the feeling would never be mutual, but it was easier said than done.  the corners of his lips curved once more before answering, â iâve been good. keeping myself busy, staying clear of my dad.  but itâs um - itâs good to see you. sorry, iâve been so distant. â his eyeâs moved from hers back to the menu. he didnât want to give himself away further. what he was feeling was partly why he had detached himself from her world.
abigail was too focused on the food she was about to order to eve pick up on any sort of weird body language coming from james. if she were anyone else, she would pick up on it quickly, probably anyone around her could see that he had the hots for the brunette but she hadnât wired her brain to think that way, she couldnât pick up on signs, even if her life depended on it.
the brunette could notice his cheeks turn to a shade of crimson but did she think anything of it? of course not, she just blamed it on the slightly above normal temperature that surrounded them. abigail smiled brightly when he talked about how heâd been, they hadnât really had a chance to properly talk in a while and that saddened her, she did care for james, truly. âhey, donât apologise j, we all get distant sometimes, we canât help it. what about we make this a weekly thing? that way, there is no excuse for us to not see each other. how does that sound? i miss ya,â she suggested, placing her hand on his and shooting him another smile.
