RINGO: [Babies] all look the same to me.
GEORGE: It’s easier to have an old children.
EAMONN: To have a what, George?
GEORGE: An old children.
EAMONN: An old children.
GEORGE: Yes. An old child. Children.
- The Eamonn Andrews Show (1965)
“George was also responsible for a surreal-type quote, which was not unlike the humour of John Lennon. It took place in Washington in February 1964, when a local disc jockey, Carroll James, was interviewing the Beatles. George said to him, ‘I wanna be a baggy sweeger.’ ‘A baggy sweeger?’ asked James, wondering what George was talking about. 'Oh yeah’, said the Beatle, 'You know, in every town there’s twenty-five baggy sweegers and every morning they get up and go out to the airport and baggy sweeger all around’.” - Bill Harry, The Beatles Book Monthly (Issue 118, Feb. 1986)
“George produced his new guitar out of the case. It was the closest he could get to a Strat, simply amazing. He put on the whammy bar [the tremolo arm, to change the pitch and add a vibrato effect] and when someone asked what it was for, George - for some strange reason - said, ‘It’s a wigwam to wind up the sun’.” - Arthur Kelly, The Beatles - All These Years: Tune In
“George’s mum was telling us how much he weighed when he was born, and George said, ‘I didn’t have a guitar then - so it was just me weight, not the guitar.’ He was quite thin and skinny was George.” - Jennifer Dawes, The Beatles - All These Years: Tune In
“Leon Russell once told me I should write down all amusing things George said, and often I did. Some of them ended up in songs and some were just plain endearing, such as, ‘I like being master of nothing. It makes a change from all the smart arses’.” - Olivia Harrison, I Me Mine
“George wrote a lot of his thoughts down himself. Sometimes it was just one sentence that you just thought, ‘What does this mean? “Goats on my roof'” what does that mean?’ Or 'When you strip it all away, there is only love.’ Which is a very beautiful line he just wrote on a piece [of] notepad from a hotel.” - Olivia Harrison, Billboard (2017)
