Wasn't there an interview where John's sister Julia said that John and Paul were closer than people think?
Yes, IIRC, someone from LiveJournal met Julia and asked her if John and Paul were really as close as the media made them out to be:
"Julia giggled and said, “oh, no, they were closer!” She then elaborated, ‘“Paul and John would come to her father’s place, go upstairs and lock themselves in for hours and hours, listening to records and thumping about up there.” She said they were closer than any two people she’s ever met, and that they used to be able to “look at each other, stare at each other, and convey a whole conversation beyond all of us.”
I'm still thinking about the fact that supposedly 50% of Beatles history is made up. I wonder what we don't know about John and Paul's first meeting and other things. I'm curious if you know something about these early days that you haven't shared yet
A while back on LiveJournal, and user claimed to have met someone who was friends with Eric Griffiths (who was present at the fete), and he said that while Paul was talking to John, Paul's voice cracked out of sheer nervousness, that John stroked his hair and that they couldn't stop looking at each other. And also that John called Paul "little Elvis". I really hope this is true! 😭🥹 Paul did mention that John was drunk at the time and that he leaned over his shoulder while he was playing, so I can picture John doing all this. Also John's sister, Julia, said that John would say all the time that Paul looked like Elvis.
Some Sgt.Pepper's McLennon (yay, I've finished them... at last)
But, tbh, I really like the final result!
fabfour on "maxwell's silver hammer", but draw as unseen ‘the beatles: get back’ interviews
…my god, ‘Maxwells sliver hammer’ was so fruity.
New favorite George Harrison quote
the white album track listing really be like
paul: WHY DON’T WE DO IT IN THE ROAD
john: my fucking mom died
paul: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BITCH 🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
john: I want to fucking kill myself
What do you think of the Understanding Lennon-McCartney YouTube series?
I think it's an extraordinary piece of work. I have no idea how the creator managed to compile all that, especially because it includes extremely rare footage and audio. That said, when I first watched it a couple of years ago, before I even started my blog, I came away with the impression that there had been some sort of rejection in India, or at least that John perceived Paul rejected him somehow. Because of this, I initially thought John's feelings were unrequited, until I later did more research into Paul. I think ULM omits some information that would have given us a better understanding of Paul's feelings toward John, because there are lots of hints that Paul was in love too. This is especially noticeable in Vol. 2, The Breakup. Most of the quotes are centered on John's point of view, his feelings and hurt, but almost none from Paul's side. For example, it barely mentions Paul's breakdown in 1968 (aside from a quick line about how 'after Paul and Jane call off their engagement, Paul binges on sex, drugs and alcohol for some weeks'), doesn't include any quote that shows Paul's jealousy of John being with Yoko, and it leaves out the story of Paul going to Maggie’s house the night before his wedding, crying and distraught. And I don't think that it has any mention of Oh! Darling either (I can't remember). Even if you're a fan of Paul, that doesn't mean it's a good idea to skim over his vulnerabilities and insecurities; that's what makes him human. Omitting these details skews the picture. Focusing too much on John's feelings can give the impression that this was a story of tragic unrequited love. I remember seeing a comment under one of the ULM videos, talking about a clip where John looks at Paul longingly, that said, 'the look John gives Paul here is the look of unrequited love,' and the creator of ULM liked a reply to that comment that said, 'people have been noticing this for years.' That makes me think the creator themselves leans toward that interpretation. Of course, everyone has the right to their own opinion, and I respect if someone believes in the rejection/unrequited theory. I just personally feel that the evidence doesn’t support it.
sorry for the bad quality i quite literally recorded my tv screen but THIS is my favorite mclennon get back moment
this is gay as hell
meanwhile george is just stimming in the background as one does
Silly lovers
Paul in 1989:
Paul in 2021:
part of why i’m so into the beatles is because genuinely they are the most entertaining celebrities to have ever existed. paul mccartney is addicted to lying. he is the unreliable narrator of his own story and often for absolutely no reason at all. john lennon would regularly crash out publicly and tell the press about it and then a year later be like “yeah i was actually full of shit that time i was just in a bad mood”. he tried to start gay rumours about himself in the early 70s and then was like “why are none of the gay men in underground gay clubs in 1973 telling the world about seeing me at underground gay clubs”. george harrison was so full of polite english rage it’s actually comical. he also participated in a 3 hour guitar battle with his best friend for his own wife’s honour. ringo has threatened the entire world with peace and love. they all acted exactly like i would if i was supermegafamous and it’s so fucking funny
If you're wondering this is how John looked at Linda before she got together with Paul vs after.
paul saying “john wasn’t gay because he didn’t want to fuck ME” is so incredible because 1. i hope one day i’m allowed to be that self centered and get away with it and 2. you are a liar
Not him having a push-button groinal response to John's... sultry voice... and having to disguise a literal moan. Like Pavlov's dog over here.
