There was just a long whine that escaped his mouth. Sure, he should be thankful for his next case but honestly today he didn’t want to do much of anything. If he could solve the case from here, he would. He thought about it but he needed to see the body. The clues he was given were not sufficient enough to work with.

“Do I have to? Did they ask for me specifically? Can’t the others solve this one on their own? I know I’m smarter than them but…” He glanced up at the director, having flipped open the comic section of the newspaper to look like he was busy.

「Everyone else is out, and those who aren’t on a case have other work to do.」 He was prepared for such a response. Ranpo normally had no qualms about doing his work, but there were times when a case seemed to completely escape his interest. He couldn't really blame him either, as this didn’t seem like a particularity interesting case.

Regardless, Fukuzawa reached out and pulled the newspaper out of his hands, looking at the detective expectantly. 「The faster you go, the faster you’ll be finished, right?」 He folded the paper under his arm, and handed Ranpo his glasses that had been sitting a few feet away from him on his desk. 「It might turn out to be better than you think, as well.」
