@the-moon-loves-you
please do not disrespect the moon
release
why am i disappointed
that you didnât shout or mock me,
but you held me in your arms and let me cry.
iâd been waiting for it,
that moment at 18
where iâd be banished from your heart.
yet something led me here,
folded letter in hand
a voice that told me to spill it out
the secrets of 2 years.
and when i told,
those tears of nights gone by
came back to me once again
not through sadness and not through joy,
but through regret and regret alone.
anyone know when the winners of the foyleâs young poet of the year award are announced?
i know for sure as hell i didnât win but iâm still kinda interested to know which peoms made it
i can't sleep at night
when I rest wide awake,
and the moon shines through that crack
in my off-coloured curtain
I think too much.
how can we sleep
at a time like this?
when the beautiful midnight and it's silver glow
is gone by dawn.
when the wind whips through the skies
cracking up the air with excitement,
never to be shared,
I want to rush to the streets
and walk.
breathe in the darkness, the cold and the mist
with starlight kisses
the things I could miss.
I forgot I wrote poetry
like I've been feeling so many things that I could've written down but now I don't remember anything and it's annoying
I came up with plots for 3 stories but I don't have the ability to fully flesh them out and it's sad so maybe I can write like excerpts from them or something
I'll see what happens
Ways To Help
everyone can do something
sign a petition and educate yourself
this world needs change before humanity is no longer humane.
defined
how do we define humanity?
is it with our kindness,
or with our cruelty?
we are capable of both.
my people should be free to live
black people should survive
and not just survive but live
we should be free to live lives where we are not afraid of the people who control the laws that are there to "protect us"
we should be free to live lives where we can be loud, go to a store, stay in our very own homes, without fearing for our existence
we should be free to live in a world where when you see injustice you report it, where others shout and scream till our oppressors are defeated
we should be free to live just as our white counterparts do so easily, without being judged by the amount of melanin in our skin, by the way our hair curls, the form of our bodies or by the way we speak
we need to be free to live our lives
if you have a platform use it
tell your family
tell your neighbours
tell your friends
and then tell them some more
shout and scream over and over again until my people are free to live
shout their names till your voice is sore because this world needs change before humanity is no longer humane
black lives matter and we cannot rest until they truly do
and while we're at it fuck cops man

I just tried to write a poem n almost died. Never trying to get in touch w my emotions again !!!
this is me every time
we just gotta vibe with the flood of feelings
People in your life care, and even if it feels like there's no one there for you at times, there are those who would be, if only you asked. Reach out. Ask for help. You can't do everything alone and you really don't have to. Even when everything feels dark, a light exists inside you, around you. You are not alone. You matter. You are important, stronger than you think. You've already made it through so much, which proves just how strong you are. You survived everything that has happened to you, and there is a reason for that. You are not alone. The world might feel like it is ending sometimes, but all hope is not lost. Even when you have nothing but bad thoughts, if you just talked to someone, you'd see that not everything is bad. People are willing to listen, to help you rationalize those irrational thoughts, to share your burden and make it light. Sometimes situations might seem impossible to solve, but if you open up to the right people, you'll see that they're really not. Two can come up with a better solutions than one. You are not alone. Think about your loved ones and the devastation you'd leave if you were gone. How much they'd suffer if you left on your own like that. Trust me, I know. I am currently going through so much pain because a dear friend didn't know how to open up even though so many people asked because so many people cared. There are those who care. Who want what's best for you. Who see you and like you for who you are. Who would miss you so much if you were gone. You are not alone. You are not.
humanity
birds of a feather they stick together
'til the cat comes that is.
and it is here,
right now,
eyes fierce and claws sharpened.
yet we do not run away,
we keep our ground,
in our own manner of course.
those to protect, who risk it all,
those to prevent, who stay determined,
and the rest, who join together
to sing, dance and whisper,
to aid, teach and console.
it is an oath,
promised at the moment of our birth,
to stand brave for our kind,
and we hold our hands over these hearts,
that beat united as one.
we will not be defeated.
my school was doing a house poetry competition over google classroom and I came 1st out of 30 people
it was the first time I've written poetry to a theme and I found it a little different to how I normally come up with my poems but I still loved it
I'm feeling like I actually have some potential now for once
I was just about to spiral into a bad panic attack, and my boyfriend goes "Stick an ice cube in your mouth." I'm not really sure where he got the idea, and I kinda laughed at it because I didn't see how it would help, but he was insistent. So I did it.
And now I'm on my second cube, because it worked.
He explained his reasoning to me when he got home.
1. I would initially think "what the fuck" and be distracted from the anxiety. (Correct.)
2. The cold of the ice would shock my system, bringing me back to the physical world and reality, drawing my focus to the cold in my mouth, and keep my brain away from thinking "I'm panicking, I must be dying." (Correct.)
3. He assumed I hadn't drank much water today and wanted to keep me hydrated. (Triple correct.)
It also forced your mouth to make saliva!
When you go into fight or flight mode, non-crucial body functions stop working so you have more energy to do what you need to do to survive (oooor to spiral into a panic attack). By forcing yourself to make saliva it helps calm you down because since fight or flight is an all or nothing response, they canât happen at the same time.
Learned that from my old therapist, who would use it with veterans with ptsd
Iâm doing this right now and its working????
THIS! Do this!
Anxiety is an emotional thing BUT there are feedback systems in place in your body that pay attention to physical states as well, which is why you then experience raised heart rate and so on when anxious. Eliminate or confuse one feedback system? Reduce anxiety.
Go be free!
biting into a lemon also works
Btw, this is part of Dialectic Behavioural Therapy, DBT for short, which was invented by a woman with borderline. It doesn't only work with panic attacks but also self harm, negative thought spirals, and sometimes even intrusive flashbacks.
Eating very spicey stuff works as well. I used to keep little packets of wasabi in my jacket, and that saved me more times I can count.
Can we please stop associating being a good person with how much you're willing to suffer in silence for other people? You can be a kind person and still say "no, I don't have the time/energy to help you with that." You can be a kind person and still say "this makes me uncomfortable, please stop." You can be a kind person and still say "I disagree and here's why." You can be kind and still say "I'm not okay with this." Being kind is about treating people with kindness and respect, not about being the human equivalent of a doormat!
