I’d feel less inclined to slam your head into the damn keys, if you’d just SHUT UP, Grayson thought to himself; the muscle in his jaw wound tighter than a jack-in-a-box. He hated that bloody piano, hated this damn bar— but it’s the only one open this early that will serve him a whiskey sour without a judgemental tsk. The bar is empty, sans for himself, the dickhead sat at the piano who fancies himself a real stevie wonder and the bartender idly cleaning glasses behind the bar.

He remains seated at the bar, lifting olive coloured eyes from the glass to acknowledge the piano player through only his reflection on the wall length mirror hung behind the bar.

BACKGROUND
grayson was born and raised in london by richard decker && nancy sinclair!! his parents were in a loving, albeit sometimes strained relationship but they never married. his father was human and his mother an untriggered werewolf ( she would swear it was a miracle she hadn’t triggered her curse given how vexing his father always was )
he idolised his father growing up, the man could do no wrong in his eyes. which was why grayson was left heartbroken when their house was raided by police when he was around twelve / thirteen years old && his father was arrested.
that was the night grayson learned his father wasn’t the hero he thought him to be, but instead a common crook who had been running low-level cons his entire life.
his father was tossed behind bars, leaving it up to grayson’s mother to support their family on a minimum wage waitressing job. it barely paid enough to keep a roof over their head, and sometimes his mother would skip meals so he could eat.
grayson started to feel like a burden on his mother, she was growing thinner and more exhausted by the day.
it was around the time grayson had turned seventeen that he followed his fathers footsteps and started committing petty theft ( stealing a man’s expensive watch from his wrist on the underground, lifting a woman’s purse from her handbag as he bumped into her ) to lift some of the burden off of his mothers shoulders and start pulling his weight for their survival.
petty theft quickly turned into boosting cars, he was already familiar around a vehicle after working the odd summer job at a mechanic shop in his earlier teen years. so, hot wiring cars was no problem for him.
it wasn’t long after he started boosting cars that he fell in with a street gang, who operated in boosting and fencing cars for a living.
finally things were starting to look up for him and his mother, and for a couple of years they did. grayson would boost cars for a local crook who would pay him more for one car than his mother would earn in a month. he kept it a secret from her, of course. she was heartbroken after his father was arrested, he didn’t want her to worry about that happening to him every time he left the house.
history finally repeated itself when grayson was around twenty two years old, he was arrested after being caught red handed attempting to fence one of the cars he had stolen and was tossed into a cell. the man he worked for visited him the next day, with an offer he couldn’t refuse — if he kept quiet, didn’t roll on him and took the fall for everything they had on him then he would see to it that his mother was well looked after. it was all grayson had ever wanted, so of course he agreed.
grayson was sentenced to several years in prison, which he served happily under the understanding that his mother was being taken care of. it was only once he was released from prison that he learned the bastard who had let him rot in a cell for ten years had broken his promise and not only had he not taken care of her financially but he had put a hit out on her.
his mother had died because she learned the truth of grayson’s arrangement with the crook, and she was going to expose him to barter for her son’s early release from prison but died before she could gather enough proof against him.
his mothers death sent grayson off into a spiral, the man who had become like a surrogate father had betrayed him. grief stricken and furious, grayson confronted the man which ended with grayson beating him to death and triggering his werewolf curse. he knew what he risked doing with every punch, but he didn’t care. let the beast out. he didn’t care about his humanity anymore. he wanted to rip that bastard to shreds, fangs and claws would only be an advantage.
after losing his temper and triggering his curse, grayson struggled to control his werewolf abilities and his first full moon was excruciating. his mother had warned him about the agony of his bones breaking, shifting from inside of him. he just didn’t know how visceral it would all feel.
every time he shifted, he felt lighter; unburdened by his mistakes, betrayals and losses that he didn’t shift back into a human for six months, when he was found by the avery pack and recruited amongst their ranks.
his time with the pack was short lived, pack hierarchy made his skin prickle and after the betrayal of his former boss he struggled to trust and bow to his alpha. the final straw for grayson was when the pack descended into chaos, and his alpha was challenged for the pack by his own brother.
grayson walked away shortly after ares claimed the pack for himself, not out of loyalty to apollo but out of loyalty to himself.
he found himself a shitty apartment, with a job at an even shittier bar but it was enough to support himself and put a roof over his head. after everything, it was better than nothing.
