I am parenting a pre-teen.

Also the daughter of two people who started a relationship when one was married, so cheaters. Cheaters who later married, had kids, and spent 35 years of their lives together parted only by death. Shades of gray; such is life.

Parents fuck up, even good ones. Teenagers can be right assholes, even kind ones.

Helluva Boss is a melodrama that also manages to ground itself in realistic ways people experience conflict and miscommunication. It is a hopeful show about messy people and messy families and messy love, and I fucking love it.

Stolas is right to choose a happier life and was brave to do so, even though some of his actions were hurtful to his daughter.

Octavia is right to be very sad and angry at her father about it.

We should be rooting for their reconciliation and we should be rooting for that dream in Blitz’s head of what their family could become. Because this a hopeful show about building a loving family and community. It is not a show that wants to punish people who are flawed.

Stolas’ biggest error with Octavia is failing to see her as a young woman and not a baby girl. So much of their conflict can and will be resolved by a difficult and honest conversation, when they are ready.

Anyone in this fandom who wants to punish a confused teen and/or a repressed gay dad with depression, fix your hearts.

The amount of people who are confused about why Millie is freaking out about falling pregnant REALLY reminds me how young a lot of y'all are

Just because you're happily married for years doesn't mean pregnancy is something to be excited about

Like I can come up with several reasons why Millie might be freaking out right now hold on lemme see:

- they are imps, living in a shitty apartment barely making ends meet, therefore they can't afford a baby

- Millie comes from a HUGE family and has baggage attached to that

- Millie has possibly suffered a miscarriage in the past and has trauma attached to pregnancy

- Millie knows this will make it difficult or even impossible to work at imp, both because it's a risk to the fetus, but even after birth it's a dangerous job they are risking their lives on the daily

- She might just not want to have kids, and knows that Moxxie probably does, and the conflict is as simple as that

- She might not really know if she wants this or not, but MORE than that just being pregnant is TERRIFYING. Your body is rapidly changing and that alone is so scary.

Like I know it's mostly young people and cis guys who are confused about this but I promise this is a VERY common response to finding out you're pregnant, no matter HOW long you've been in a committed, stable relationship.

Sorry grievances time because I don’t like it there are alternatives and I will literally fucking list them for you. (Alternatives are given as alternative words to HOW PEOPLE WRONGLY USE the disorders in question, NOT AS ACCURATE DESCRIPTIONS of the disorders/symptoms. Thanx. A handful of the “alternatives” can still be used as derogatory but for fucks sake what the fuck ever stop using medical terms as insults)

(Edit: Here to clarify that my intention of the words below is not to say I see other mentally ill or disabled people like this, it’s specifically what I myself most commonly see people use the diagnostic words to mean. I believe it is also important to say that all terms below can be used in a derogatory/negative sense, and while I do see the issues potentially present with someone having terms just to be an asshole, I also want to say that it’s easier to phase out legitimate medical terminology from people’s vocabularies if you offer alternatives instead of just telling them not to say things. This was originally a rant post about my own frustrations regarding misuses of diagnostic terminology & misusing those terms as a means to insult/demean people, as it is offensive and conveys that their problems make them nothing more than an insult to you.)

Bipolar/Manic (alternative words/phrases that don’t refer to/demonize bipolar disorder: inconsistent, erratic, unpredictable, flighty, fickle, irregular, volatile, temperamental)
