Hermione Granger + breaking the rules
That the best you got?
Gif credits to @brownesclaire thank you so much for this!
I mean I think just the gifs can speak for themselves 👀 👀 but I’ll ramble on anyway
As I’ve mentioned this was the big thing I noticed the other day, and it struck me as such an important detail in the episode and to Claire’s development as well as her relationship to Neil.
It’s easy for her to confide in him, all of these painful things she doesn’t want to think about, he makes her feel safe enough to talk about them and he feels the same even since season 1. I can write a whole essay about this but I kinda already am so please add your opinions I could talk about this particular thing forever! Claire low key love him but just doesn’t know it, hes her best friend and also more…
Like and reblog the original gif sets as well! here and

The great thing about fandom/internet friends vs. friends you meet out IRL, is that when you get to know people for the first time face-to-face, there’s this awkward process of trying to figure out juuuust how much of a dork they are, and how much you can nerd out before you scare them off. Like, you don’t wanna break out the real freaky shit right off. There’s always the impulse to hang back a little, as you try to gauge just how into a thing they are. But with fandom friends? You fucking met them in the garbage heap. You knew their fucked up narrative kinks before you even know their real name. They are screaming their passions into the void. Your friendship comes pre-loaded with already knowing the exact depths of each other’s depravity, and any ordinary-people-shit you have in common is just a bonus.
Melendez Appreciation Week Day 2: Favorite line/quip
I love this line between Neil and Claire because regardless of ship or no ship, I think Neil was a good mentor for Claire and had a lot of life experience (which I would have liked to learn more about) that could benefit Claire and all the challenges season 3 threw at her. The quote shows Neil caring about another human being and at the same time giving really good advice. It’s just a nice moment and a good quote from Neil.
I was going to do a meta about this exact quote!
Him saying this just shows how much he’s grown as a character over the seasons, especially in regards to Claire. Whereas sometimes at the start she would be teased because of her optimism and “softness”, he values that quality in her more than anything because he himself has gone through experiences of putting faith in the wrong people and knows what it feels like. It’s one of my favourite lines of his; he’s comforting her while also reflecting on his past experiences, and then when he says, “today you were wrong and I’m still grateful that I work with you” is SO important to his growth. Because come on, this is Neil Melendez. He started out as a stubborn if not slightly arrogant doctor who would never accept his mistakes. Now here he is, saying that accepting your mistakes is okay and sometimes actually a good thing because it means (in Claire’s case) that you still believe the best of people. It shows that he’s grown and shows how compassionate he is.
Just a reminder that Melendez was on The Good Doctor since the pilot and was a fan favourite yet:
-he never got a proper backstory
-we never found out anything about his family except one scene with his sister who we never saw before or after that
-he only ever got subplots that were about his romantic relationships
-he only got a singular one-on-one scene with the lead character in his final season, and didn’t interact with him at all in his final episode.
-we watched them build up melendaire agonizingly slow from season 1 and finally when one of them admits their feelings, the relationship does not develop further and he is killed immediately.
-he was given no more screentime than usual in his last few episodes.
-they spent barely any time on his death which was incredibly rushed and full of plot holes.
-his final episode had four other plots happening in it as well, and his death wasn’t even the biggest thing in it from the writers viewpoint as they put Shaun and Lea getting together as the “final image”.
I am OUT if this isn’t a marketing stunt and he isn’t alive next season.
Me, every time I see a selfish, sarcastic character whose arc includes growing and becoming more selfless: I'm gonna get attached!
Me, every time that character's arc ends with them sacrificing their lives to save everyone else: ..... How did I make this mistake again?
I obviously never learned my lesson... but don’t worry, Dr. Melendez is up to try and teach it once again 😭
(credits for the video go to the person on twitter who posted it - video is not mine then)
I just wanted to share here because it seems like all of a sudden all of these little details and things we did not realize before are coming to light and ironically in my eyes it just strenghens the idea of how they seemed to build Melendaire to be the real deal, if you know what I mean
Melendez in first season: I think my arrogance makes me a better surgeon
Melendez in third season: Claire makes me a better surgeon and a better person.
This is called GROWTH but also something else
Day 6 of being a clown and thinking Neil Melendez is still alive / finding any reason to believe this is all a conspiracy
Jeremy is an actor that Nick follows.
Me trying to explain how Melendez is still alive and this was a cruel twist and the actor/writer is just tricking us
Therapist: what do we say to new characters that start showing chemistry!
Me: Welcome to the Titanic.
Therapist: No.
Raise your hand if you still feel personally victimized by 🖕🏼 man, David fucking Shore after the s3 finale and tbh a lot of decisions that have idiotically been made throughout the show
I’m never going to get over it rip good character development, rip good platonic and non-platonic relationships, rip good writing, rip the good doctor because as far as I’m concerned the show is OVER
