I'm so excited to post the next 3 chapters this Sunday. This is where the entire story started in my head years ago.

The words kept coming, unspooling faster now, as though once the dam had cracked the flood was inevitable. “The things I said to you,” Malfoy continued, not meeting her eyes now. “I wanted to hurt you because you were better than me, and you weren't supposed to be. I couldn’t understand that, it didn’t fit my view of things. So I never stopped poking and pushing. Not once. Even when I knew better. Even when it cost me.”   Hermione’s throat tightened. Filthy little Mudblood. The words stung in her memory, but the shame in his voice twisted her insides. She fought the instinct to interrupt him again. Her reflex was to make him stop, change the subject, deflect from her own anger and hatred attached to their combined history. But he clearly needed to say it, and as he spoke, she started to realize that she needed to hear it.
