“Shadow? That’s an interesting name, or is it a nickname? “Daniel wondered and gazed over at her, shaking her hand firmly. His semi-goofy smile still in place. “Is this your first year here?” he asked, starting to eat again. If so, he might just take it upon himself to makes sure the girl had some friends. He didn’t have many that weren’t fellow werewolves, but, friends were friends. 

The young witch didn’t really know how to answer that after all these years and so simply shook her head and quietly responded, “It’s complicated.” To get over the awkward she took another bite of her mac ‘n’ cheese. “Umm... yeah it is. Is it yours too or no?”

Theo sighed a she heard the young lady ,sometimes she really did feel like a bitch. Brushing herself off she looked over to the girl and stepped closer “ ugh i’m sorry, i didn’t mean to scare you it …. it was a reflect “ it was the truth Theodora was almost always on high alert due to her past, but with that said it was no excuse to scare anyone . “ i’m glad your okay … I’m Theodora”  she said giving the girl a soft smile

“Honestly I’m fine miss,” Shadow insisted, not wanting the girl to feel bad for something that was her fault. She needed to pay more attention to her surroundings she really did. Her hands gently smoothed down the skirt of her dress as she returned the smile she received. “I’m Shadow.”

“Well you should ask me all the questions then,” Lucille offered with a bright smile to the brunette. “Me too! I helped him find a classroom, though it was more me using his arm as a climbing tree.” She said with a bit of a giggle in her voice. Oh how she had adored to just climb up on his arm. “You don’t know Disney? It is a brand. They have a whole world, really. But they have movies, and tv-shows, and they are so amazing at that! Oh I love their cartoons so much.”

This girl seemed really nice she had to admit but just talking to her even for the brief amount of time it had been so far had left her feeling a little stupid because she was talking about thing she’d never even heard of. “Okay.... except.... I don’t know what those things are... What are they?”

“How’s it going?” Daniel asked with a similar smile and stuffed a fry in his mouth. “My name is Daniel,” he offered while holding out his hand to her. He noticed he had some ketchup on there, so he wiped that off with a napkin before offering it again. “Whoops. I swear I’m not usually this messy,” he laughed. “And you are?” he asked, his expression expectant. He couldn’t help noticing that she was super cute after that little laugh, maybe even a little shy? Which just made her all that more appealing. 

“Umm... it’s going...” she replied, not really sure how to answer that question, not understanding what he meant. Shadow was trying her best not to let the confusion cross her face but wasn’t sure she’d managed it if she was honest. Any sign of confusion was quickly replaced by another bubble of laughter however when the boy laughed at the ketchup. “Nice to meet you Daniel, I’m Shadow.” Her voice was quiet but her tiny smile was back as she reached out and delicately shook his outstretched hand.

“Ooh, well, I can tell you about dragons! I am all about the dragon knowledge. I don’t know that much about the bears though, they are quite new to me. But oh my god I think I am in love with the specie? Like imagine just taking a nap with your face buried into the fur of them.” She had to just sigh a little. Oh she was so happy with the idea of that. “I like that too! Do you like Disney? Or juice boxes?”

“I would honestly love to learn about dragons,” she replied, starting to smile a little more. “Ooh I have actually made friends with one of the bears and he’s lovely I have to say.” A small smile couldn’t help but tug at the corners of her mouth as she thought about Gabe. “Um... what’s disney?”

“Well, not everyone knows how territorial we dragons are. Some even think we like to have people sleep in our nests.” She said, visibly shuddering. “So, who are you? Like, who are you? Not your name, but what do you like? Are you in love with softness like me?”

“Well I’ve only ever learnt about witches and selkies so I’m slightly clueless...” the witch admitted quietly, her legs swinging back and forth slightly where they didn’t reach the ground, making a mental note of all she was learning about dragons from this girl. “Umm... well... I like being outdoors... and I like music...” Safe to say that Shadow wasn’t used to being asked about herself.

“Well that is strange. Like, naming someone the same as a thing that comes when the light shines on you. It is strange.” She told her, curling up in the chair. Pulling one hoodie over her lap. “It is fine, it happens. I just didn’t expect anyone to touch what I was using as bed. I’m sorry about the fire.”

Rather than comment further about her name, Shadow instead crossed her legs and flattened the skirt of her dress out over them. “It’s fine, I should have know better clearly. I uh.. I promise it won’t happen again.”

Gabriel didn’t know about using notebooks or pens. He was perplexed as others seemed to know to have them. Was that a rule? He had the text book, which he had read but it didn’t make much sense. By the time class ended, he felt overwhelmed and confused. 

“Yes…..” he replied with a nod. The sense of uncertainty for the typically confident Bear faded when he took in the sight of his new little friend. She reminded him of why he came. Rising to his feet, he reached for her small hand unconsciously and stroked the edge of his thumb over the back of her hand as if to comfort himself. “Do you need to put your school things away?” he wanted to ask about the notebooks and pens but not when the other students were around.

Shadow couldn’t help but unconciously smile as the wearbear’s thumb stroked the back of her hand. “No all done,” she replied as she too rose to her feet and hoisted her satchel onto one shoulder. She was so ready to blow this joint right now, she just needed the open air and could feel her fingers getting slightly twitchy. “So... lead the way I guess?”

“Good.” He nudged the top of her small head again, unconsciously treating her like one of his Clan already. He looked up as people started to enter the class. “Then I will wait for you after class. I will show you where to find the Den.” 

“Sounds like a plan,” she said with a smile as she settled in for the class. ---------- Time Jump ---------

As the class wrapped up, Shadow breathed a sigh of relief. It had been a long class for her, she was definitely not used to learning as part of such a large group and it was frying her brain slightly. All the information had gone in sure but it was gonna take some time for it to all process fully away from all the noise. Packing her notepad and pen away, she turned to Gabriel. “So, ready to go on a forest adventure?”

“Shadow? Isn’t that like… A thing, not a name?” Lucille questioned as she looked at the other girl, dropping back in the chair where the other hoodies were still. Just her little hoodies to have collected as she was hunting everything down. “Mine is Lucille. Funny thing is it means light. So like… My name is the opposite of yours.”

“It is a thing yes... But it’s also my name,” was her answer, well sort of. Not really knowing whether to sit or stand, Shadow settled for perching on the arm of the chair opposite the little dragon. “I guess it is. Nice to meet you Lucille, sorry about the um... awkward circumstances...”

Gabriel was relieved when the little Witch agreed with him. “Good. I am pleased to be your clan.” He gave her small hand a squeeze before reluctantly letting it go. “Would you like to go out into the woods after class? I can show you where to find me?”

“I’m pleased to be yours,” Shadow said, feeling slightly sad when he let go of her hand. And since he’d let go of her hand she figured she should probably stop leaning on him too, she didn’t want to impose or anything. “I would very much like that,” she responded as she sat back upright. “I always like going to the woods, they’re my happy place.”

With the other having turned around, Lucille climbed out of the chair and started to get dressed, not minding her own nudity too much. Yet you had to be considerate when dealing with other people, and that she for sure would do. “Oh, well, that is interesting. Maybe so many dragons just see themselves above others, and that is why I just use names.” She mused mostly to herself as she pulled the hoodie on. “What’s your name? Also, I am dressed again.”

Her body weight shifted back and forth as Shadow rocked on her heels, fingers fidgeting with each other in front of her. She really didn’t know what to do while the dragon girl got changed so she just did nothing awkwardly. When the girl finally announced that she was dressed again, Dallan slowly turned back round, after a quick peek just to check beforehand of course. “Oh my name’s Shadow.”

Lillian stepped back at the other seemed to have been shocked out of her own good skin, and the older female felt immediately guilty that she had caused that. “It truly is a maze, would have thought I could actually manage to find my way myself since I was a student here about ten years ago.” She said with a small laugh, smiling to the other. “Sure, if you could explain the directions that should help plenty.”

“A maze is an understatement,” the young witch agreed as she began to unfold her map, deducing that this woman must be a teacher by process of elimination. “So where are you trying to get to may I ask Ma’am?” Probably some classroom or staff room but she was asking anyways, plus even then she wouldn’t know which of those many rooms considering she didn’t know the professor at all, or really the way around this place herself.

“Isn’t family just blood? A Clan is bigger than blood. It is all your people.” Gabriel replied, his voice a rumbly sound that seemed to come from deep within his chest. “We are clan now, yes?”

The witch felt the rumble as it went through his body and it gave her the feeling that this was something important to him. “Yes I think we are clan now,” she agreed with a twinkle in her eyes. Her family she was stuck with and couldn’t change but it seemed like a clan might just be the family she got to choose for herself. Shadow smiled and gave Gabriel’s hand a squeeze of reassurance, although it probably barely felt like anything given how small she was compared to him. “It’s good to have people that are there for you.”

“It is a clever plan. Worthy of a clever little Witch and her friend, the Bear.” Gabriel replied with a soft growl to his voice. He was puzzled by the question so it too a moment for him to reply. “Your Clan is your people. What do you call your people?”

Shadow giggled a little at his growl, she just couldn’t help herself. “The Bear who is just as clever but in different ways,” she added, tilting her head slightly to look up at him but not wanting to remove it from his arm. “Well the only ‘people’ I’ve ever had or know has been my family.” The witch shrugged a little, trying not to think about her family to much but she felt the shiver run through her body nonetheless.
