CHAPTER 2: MY HEART SURROUNDS YOU
The screen played a movie that was loud enough to make a baby cry from the amount of noise that it was making, but no one brought their kid to a R rated movie because if they did, their kid would be a criminal for life (according to rumors spread by teenagers who didn’t understand what the word maturity meant).
While the movie played, the cells were quietly whispering to each other about others, and one of them was about Jones. “I heard that he couldn’t stop Thrax in time, and that's why Frank died,” They mumbled, knowing that Jones sat right in front of them. “Also, I heard that he and Drix didn’t talk to each other for a week. Can you believe that?” The both of them giggled before leaving right when the movie ended while Jones sat there with tears streaming down his face. He knew people hate him. It just didn’t feel right to hear it by himself. “Not again..” He mumbled to himself while wiping the tears off his face. He didn’t wanna be weak to the others while they were already talking bad about him. Besides, if he can’t protect himself, he’ll be known as a momma’s boy and get made fun of even more. He also didn’t have many friends who cared about him. Any time he tries to talk to them, they’ll be like “mhm” or “yeah” and just be extremely dry around him, but when their other friends come along, suddenly they’re all energetic and completely ignore him. The only person he could trust is Drix since he actually cared and listened to him. It sucked. He hated it. It just made him feel like a loser who didn’t know what anything was.
He thought about how he would reply to Drix’s note since he forgot to do that a couple days ago while heading to his car to go home. Would he write about how those cells talked shit about him? How his house was a terrible mess? How disappointed he felt in himself? What could he write about? “I’ll figure it out myself sooner or later. It doesn’t matter.” Jones turned on the car and began to drive back home to where he could rest without any complaints..with tears running down his face again.
Why was he like this? He used to be happy. Thrilled, even. So, why now when his life was finally pulling together?! When the time was perfect, his mood was better than before, and he had an awesome best friend that listened. Then Frank died and now everything fell apart. It didn’t work. Nothing ever worked. He got the fame he wanted, and lost it. “I lost everything.” Jones said as soon as he got home and slammed the door shut behind him and began kicking the empty beer bottles that laid on the floor with some crumbled up pieces of paper. “I swore to protect Frank, and now look at me. I’m nothing!” He laid down on his bed and began to sob. “I don’t know what's wrong with me. I don’t feel like enough. Maybe I am just some stupid germ-inator.”
Suddenly, there was a soft knock at his door which forced him to wipe his face and hold his tears just in case it was the Chief giving him some donuts, but it wasn’t. “Hey Ozzy,” Drix said as he smiled sweetly. “Mind if I come in?”
Jones seemed a bit shocked that Drix decided to stop by his house even though the mess looked like someone took all the trash in the world and dumped it all over the place. He didn't wanna embarrass himself in front of Drix… even though he did it so many times before. “I… don't think you should come in. My place is a big ol’ mess.” He said before slowly beginning to close the door gently, which was stopped by Drix.
“Jones, wait.” Drix held the door tightly against his hand, looking at Jones with worry. “Please… talk to me. I want you to speak with me. I want to hear your voice, please.” He held Jones’ empty hand gently, slowly rubbing it gently. “Can you do that?”
Jones felt his hand go numb and his face having a faint glow of purple on his cheeks before opening the door a bit more. “My place is… a mess though. Are ya’ sure you wanna come in?” He questioned Drix.
“I’m sure… I don't wanna risk not seeing your face again.”
Jones felt his hand being cupped by both of Drix’s hands, which got him all flustered…he never felt this way before around him. He was always chill around him, but now it felt like he was always nervous about everything now after Frank’s death and his break up with Leah.
Leah was always a nice gal who seemed to get everything done and very pretty. Jones was head over heels for her from the moment they met, but only dated for a couple of months before breaking up since Leah wanted to work on herself. This tore Jones apart and one of the other reasons why he sobbed so much. He yearned for love once again, but if someone gave him exactly that? Then he'd be okay.
“Well… come in then,” Jones opened the door and turned on the lights, revealing a couple of beer bottles on the floor and a bunch of crumpled up pieces of paper. “Sorry for the mess. I’m not fond of cleaning..”
“It's alright, Ozzy. I know how it feels to lose somebody important to you.” Drix looked down and realized that his hand was still holding Jones’ hand before letting go. “Oops! Forgive me. I didn't realize that we were still holding each other.”
“I-It’s fine. Don't ya’ worry about it.”
Drix smiled softly before sitting down on an empty chair next to a small table with a lamp and a couple of papers on top of it. The papers were written in messy handwriting and some were even crumpled up. That’s when Drix took notice that on all of the papers, the top read, “Dear Drips..”
“Have you been trying to write to me?” Drix asked as he read through all the papers he could read while Jones stared in shock. He couldn't know that he wanted to reply back to him, so he reluctantly tried to take all the papers away.
“O-Oh! Don't ya’ worry about that, man! That's private stuff, ya’know?” Jones stammered as he pulled all the papers away onto the table and tried to take one away from Drix’s hand. “Give that back!”
“Can't I just read a bit more?”
“No! That’s enough for now—”
Suddenly, Jones felt something in between his chest. Once he looked down, he realized that Drix’s face was smushed against it. “Shit! My bad Drips… I-I didn't—”
Drix stopped him and gave him a thumbs up. “It's alright. Stay like this as long as you need to.”
“I— uhm..” Jones quickly grabbed the paper and placed it on the table before apologizing to Drix for a long time while he said it was okay.
“Ozzy,” Drix grabbed Jones’ shoulders and pulled him close to where their bodies were almost touching. “It's okay, alright? You don't need to apologize for anything again, okay?”
Jones began to tear up a little as he hugged Drix tightly. He never truly got to experience this love that he felt, and from his best friend nonetheless! It felt so… pure. Like something he wanted to feel for a while. “How did I get stuck with someone as sweet as you?” He asked while tears rolled down his face.
“Because, Ozzy,” Drix began as he hugged Jones back gently to not hurt him. “I’m cherry flavored. And cherries are sweet, so I have to live up to the name. Besides, if it means I can comfort you when you're sad, I’ll always be like this towards you.”
“...You're cheesy.”
“I know.”
Jones giggled a little before letting go and sitting on his very messed up bed. He looked down at his hands as they fidgeted with each other while tears ran down his face. He felt weird about what just happened. Drix hasn't been like this towards anyone, only him. So why now when he was beginning to lose himself? Does he care about him that much to love and cherish him?
“Ozzy,” Drix sat down next to him and rested his hand close to his thigh. “I’m really glad I didn't leave Frank. If I did, I wouldn't be here with you right now. I’d be flushed down forever. But when you told me that pep talk, I just knew I couldn't leave you. You and I were built for each other despite our differences. I… could never leave you.”
“...Do you really mean that?” Jones asked as he laid his hands beside him.
“I do. I really do.”
Their hands shifted so they'd be touching slightly, which caused Jones to be all nervous while Drix blushed from the contact. “I… probably wouldn't want you to worry about me.” Jones admitted. “I know ya’ really wanna help me out here, but I feel like I can do this myself.”
“I understand, but if you need help with anything, give me a call, okay?” Drix said as he got up. “Do you want me to make you some tea?”
“Nah, thanks anyway.” Jones yawned before laying down and covering himself with his blanket. “I think I'll take a power nap so I can get some more sleep. I haven't slept well in a few days.”
“...You can't sleep with just one blanket. Do you need me to buy you some stuff? Food, clothes, anything?”
“Anything to get me to be more active. Other than that I’m alright..”
Drix decided to look in his closet to find another blanket for Jones. It was hard to search for it due to all of the dust but he found one. “Drips, ba- man, I don't need another blanket.” Jones insisted before feeling the soft blanket lying on his body as Drix made sure his entire body was covered.
“You need to have it. I can't sleep knowing you're freezing during the night. I’ll buy the food and anything else you need. Don't you have a spare key?” Drix asked as he opened the door.
“There's a spare key under the carpet. You can use that.” Jones yawned as he got comfortable in his bed. “I’ll see ya’ later, Drips.”
“It's Drix.”
“..Whateva’”
Once Drix shut the door, Jones looked up at the ceiling and wondered if he could ever get better. He had Drix, sure, but he's the only person he could count on without making fun of him. He knew Drix wouldn't do that to him. He knew what Jones was feeling.
…So why was he thinking so hard of this? Did he just suddenly care for him? Why was he feeling Drix’s love now? It felt…warm. Cozy, even.
Jones felt his eyelids get heavy before he drifted off to sleep.
Only thinking about the cell of his dreams.
Well… pill, to be exact.
—
Jones woke up on top of a cloud, which he immediately got scared and almost fell off, but quickly got his balance back up again. He looked around, wondering where he was.
“What the..” He carefully got up and looked around before seeing more clouds lead up to another cloud that Drix was laying down on as he stared up into the sky.
Jones slowly climbed up the clouds and eventually reached Drix. “Yo, Drips. What's going on? Where am I?”
“Ozzy. You arrived..” Drix slowly lifted himself up before patting the spot next to him so Jones could sit beside him. “Do you feel better?”
“I’m still wondering where I am..”
“I’m not allowed to say, but I think you look great… perfect even.”
Drix leaned in a bit closer to Jones and he held his hand gently. “D-Drips..?” Jones said as he backed away a bit against the cloud. “Watcha’ doing?”
Drix leaned more against him as Jones was now suddenly pinned against the cloud and directly in front of Drix's face. He blushed from how close he was and…how much he secretly wanted it.
“It's okay, Jones.” Drix reassured him. “It's what people do here. It’ll be alright..”
Jones felt his breathing getting hot each second as one of his hands held onto Drix’s face slowly. He never expected this to happen ever in his life. And now that it is? He wanted it more than anything else in the world. “D-Drips..” Jones whimpered quietly before placing his other hand on Drix’s back.
“It's okay. We can take things slow if that's what you want.” Drix calmly spoke. He slightly rubbed Jones’ thigh, which caused him to shiver from the touch as he slightly nodded.
Suddenly, Jones felt Drix’s lips onto his as they fell into a soft kiss. He felt his adrenaline rush through his body while keeping a soft grip on Drix. God, he never wanted this to end, not in a million years. His cherry lips paired with the fact that he was the only one who could understand and love Jones without being rude in any way possible made it so much better. Drix was so passionate with him nowadays and now it just felt so right for him. Jones needed more of it. He wanted it so much but he could never say it because he was scared of Drix rejecting him.
He felt his lips kiss Drix more roughly before slowing down to not make his true love feel uncomfortable before he felt him move down to his neck.
“You wanna keep going, sweetie?” Drix asked before slowly leaving small kisses on Jones neck as he whimpered (after agreeing, of course) and felt his body grow weak. “Oh…Drix..” Jones quietly mumbled as he arched his back a little before getting a more firm grip on him. God, if only this could happen a little longer—
“LETTER FOR OSMOSIS JONES?!”
Jones suddenly got up in a hurry, his face covered with blush and sweat as he touched his neck and lips rapidly as if Drix was still there loving him.
He saw the small envelope slide under his door and the footsteps of the mailman walking away to drop off more packages elsewhere. “D-Drips..?” Jones yelled. “Where are ya’..?”
Suddenly, the door knocked. Before Drix walked through the door with the spare key and carrying some bags of food and clothes. “I got you everything you need,” Drix stated. “If I missed anything, tell me.”
“It's great. Thanks, Drips.” replied Jones.
“Drix.”
“Whateva’.”
