“Something people use to generalize a group, usually they’re not very true, or flattering. Like if some other wolf called me a mongrel ‘cause I’m from t’hills or some human called me stupid ‘cause of how I was raised…they’d be makin’ the assumption that since I have an accent and wasn’t born in a city I’m everything negative they think of with those things.” Sydney felt a bit as though he were explaining things too slowly, but Gabe, poor, apparently innocent soul that he was, was clearly very new to the big, ugly side of the world. “And then I’d have t’punch ‘em in the face, probably. Just on principle and all.”
Well, he never claimed to be perfect.
“Okay, right…let’s not use that one anymore.” He made a mental note to avoid the analogies for a while. “People use that term as a…slang term, for sexuality. But, no…alright, build-wise, looks maybe, sure; bears. Just don’t…go tellin’ guys you’re that type of bear.”
Oh Gods, it would have been hilariously actually, the confusion, but he didn’t like making jokes out of things like that. It was a bitter note, actually, with how much his own sexuality had been written off growing up.
“You’ve seen otters, right? They’re like..thin, sleek, fit? That kind of look.” He still felt some very important aspects were, however, still going over Gabe’s head. “Books, n’so much, it’s more a..community, word a’mouth thing. Just, keep in mind, the guys we’re talking about are gay, so…please don’t just walk up to a human and ask them if they’re something like that. Some humans…do not take that well.”
And he was sure Gabe could hold his own but that was just going to be a mess in general, one he actually didn’t want to cause.
“That is a rude thing to say. You are no mongrel. You are a good and clever Wolf. I do not like these people.” he grumbled, a rare display of his temper. He called Sydney a friend and the Bear was protective of his friends.
“Oh I see. That seems like an odd distinction. No one concerns themselves of such things.” Gabriel shrugged. Sexuality wasn’t much of a fuss in his Clan. Some had a particular preference and others were open to anyone who were so inclined. These were private things and no one else’s business but the Bears in those relationships. This was a lot of information. Gabriel would take it and consider it for a while, likely pestering the Wolf with more questions.
“Why would they be fussed about such things?” He frowned lightly, “I think humans are very interesting but they also seem bothered by the strangest things. So if you were a human who had an animal ... what would you be? Because I am big so if I liked other males for my sexual partner, I would be a Bear according to the humans, yes? Would you still be a Wolf?”
