Okay, so I’m an idiot and I received this anon months ago on “How do I make my gifs” and I replied with what I used to make my gifs…. My bad.
So I’ll show you how I make gifs: (P.S I am using my MAC to make gifs, I’m not sure if it’ll be different if I use a PC)
So to make gifs, I start out with an mp4 file (usually you can find a way to download an episode but if you find the specific scene on Youtube, you can use this converting site of youtube videos to mp4.
(to use that, get the youtube link and put it in the box, click on the definition you want, click start and than download)
With that done, now we make the gif!
Open photoshop, if you have it.
Go to FILE => IMPORT => VIDEO FRAMES TO LAYERS
Next you look for the mp4 that you want to gif. (for me it’s easier to go to ALL MY FILES to look for the mp4 depending on how long ago I used it) Click on it and you’re screen should look like this:
Now you move the little black cursors on the part of the gif you do want. Once you move the black cursors, the range of import automatically change from FROM BEGINNING TO END to SELECTED RANGE ONLY. (Be careful on how wide apart you want the gifs. Tumblr has a 2M limit on gifs and if the quality of the video is good than the less frames you have the better.)
Once you found the what scene you wanted to gif, press okay. Now photoshop should look like this
If there are frames that you do not want, go to the bottom frames an select the frames you want to delete. Click on the first one, hold SHIFT, and click on the last frame you want to delete and click on this:
ad hit DELETE FRAMES.
Once you have the frames you want, there are many options that you can do now. If you want to change the colors there is a tab on the bottom right corner of the frames.
I typically use use Curves, Hue/Saturation, and Color Balance. Play with whatever you want if you want to color them. IF you do want to color your gif, click on the last frame in the column in the right. This will make sure all the frames are colored. (if will show the frames you had originally instead of the updated frames that you deleted, so don’t be worried, it will not effect the file size.)
Also I found that the timing on the frames are usually fast once you put them on tumblr, so you can change the time by going onto the timeline, highlighting all the frames
Click on the time and (I usually go to other)
And make it to 0.07. I use that time because it looks like the video but you can always save different files of your gif and make it whatever timing you want depending on how slow or fast you want.)
Once you’re done coloring, click on FILE => SAVE FOR WEB
This screen will show up
As I said before, Tumblr has specific dimensions that you can see here and the file size has to be below 2M. So under Image size, click on what detentions you want. (for this gif, I’ll go with the width of 500)
Became
The image itself will shrink, and look! The file size decreased enough to be used on Tumblr!
Became
Now click save, make that file and voilà! You have your gif!
If you want to know anything else, let me know!
