I also think that the strength gap is at least partially manufactured women would in fact be stronger overall if little girls were encouraged to do physically taxing games and activities and eat their fill while they’re growing vs having to constantly diet and be sedentary indoors (or god forbid do intense cardio while under-eating). The amount of adult women honestly afraid to lift weights bc they think they’ll get bulky as though bulking isn’t a full time job that athletes have to spend all their time on and anyone on earth gets shredded from just using their adult muscles for their intended purpose, girl your bone density 🥀
if you say women are intentionally nerfed from birth in 2026 people look at you like you’re insane and start condescendingly telling you about how women are just better at different things (but not during their periods haha) but this was a completely basic feminist talking point I grew up with like “girls can do it too! [shot of little girls climbing and running with boys]” nickelodeon commercial tier base level I hate it how is everyone suddenly dumber than the average 7 year old

ways people on the internet use “twink”
- when they really want to say “faggot” but they know it’s a slur they shouldn’t say
- when they really want to say “f*mboy” but they know it’s a slur they shouldn’t say and let’s be real 90% of the time they don’t know or care that it’s a slur they shouldn’t say and they say it anyway used as a synonym for twink meaning faggot
- just straight up transphobia. misgendering and masculinizing transfemmes, feminizing transmascs, forcing a largely gendered term onto nonbinary people etc.
- describing any skinny man of any sexuality with enough traits that are deemed “feminine” or “androgynous”, often straight or maybe bicurious, very little regard for anything else about appearance or presentation (typically standards rooted in white supremacy and misogyny, and homophobic stereotypes)
ways people on the internet don’t use “twink”
- to mean “skinny white hairless young gay guy, historically typically white and blond”, which is the least nuanced but most common actual definition of the term
- as a label that a person chooses to identify themself with. not everyone who fits those descriptors wants to be called a twink. the connotations of size, age, and whiteness in regards to desirability among gay men and what kind of guy is more “socially acceptable to fuck,” leading to the stereotypes of twinks being fuckable bottoms who are always sexually available, are important to take into account. many trans people who may fit the typical descriptors are not at the gender presentation they would like to have, and even if they are, there are plenty of reasons to not want to be called a twink. stop calling fictional characters and celebrities and real human people in your own life twinks when you don’t know what you’re talking about and are probably just using it in place of a slur or as a transphobic or homophobic microagression. oh my god
personally I am of the opinion that vegans who are like “the way our food system currently works under capitalism on a large scale is exceptionally cruel to all animals including humans and is not sustainable, so I’m doing what I can to make the most ethical choices available to me about what I eat and encourage others to do the same” are generally very reasonable people who I agree with in spades. but vegans who seem to think human beings are not themselves animals who are ultimately also part of the food chain but instead some kind of other paternalistic higher entity that can never engage in ethical and sustainable hunting practices (and especially the fringe I’ve seen who think other carnivorous animal predators are also evil and need to be eliminated) are people I regard as foolish at best if not actively anti-indigenous and racist
This is why Pride is not just a party. It's a joyful celebration, but it's also a pointed and colourful two-finger salute to a world that stood back whilst so many of us died. And we'll never go quietly, never again.
went to my first goth club over the weekend and felt inspired again to revisit art for hold my life
@velshivered thank you for reigniting my passion for music and introducing me to the absolute wonders of #your mike. fr
one thing that has been a little perplexing to me as people share their i love boosters reviews is when someone says they dont get why lakeith stanfield is there. like he was introduced as a kohls model. keke palmer is an aspiring fashion designer. the entire movie is about her chasing fame and recognition in whatever way she can get it and this irrelevant dude keeps trying to tie her down with a yarn about how only she can fix him and after her big moment of self actualization, she rejects him. imho it ties in with the rest of the story pretty well. like after she did all that, she's supposed to just make happy with this dude? i dont think his character is just added for bits, i think its just a subtler, more mundane presentation of some of the big in your face Themes of the rest of it. like we cant all unburden ourselves by revolutionizing the global fashion industry but we can tell a lakeith stanfield to kick rocks yknow?
boots (riley) ?
that's my ego (i love) boost(ers) !
Went to a live Q&A screening of I Love Boosters last night at the Brooklyn Alamo Drafthouse and got to see the man himself, Boots Riley and Lakeith Stanfield!
As for the film itself…I Love Boosters is genuinely SO good. Similar surrealist humor as Sorry to Bother You but on steroids. Slapstick and deep messages abt art, consumerism, fast fashion, people over profits. The last third is totally bonkers in the best way. See it in a cinema, please. During the Q&A Boots talked about how important word of mouth is for projects like these. Opening the same weekend as a Star Wars movie is rough. But please support the film this weekend if you can. Don’t wait on streaming. See it, tell your friends to see it. Everyone decries sequels and reboots and remakes but we have to support original, creative, ballsy filmmaking like this.
The Q&A was great in general and I could have listened to these guys talk for hours. Boots taking about A24 and Neon physically fighting at Cannes took me out. Lakeith was so funny too man! His wife is in the film, i refuse to spoil the storyline because it’s so hysterical and bonkers. And he’s very very tired of the Get Out gifs and begged us to make new ones of him. 😂
But he also dropped something really profound that’s going to stay with me for a long time, as a creative. He was telling a wild anecdote about an incident that happened on set during the filming of Sorry to Bother You, and said that if nothing has the chance to go wrong, it never has the chance to be great. We have to be audacious with our art, because keeping it safe is always going to result in mediocrity. Even if we might fall down, we have to reach as high as we can if we ever have the hope to reach new levels. As a writer I found that so inspiring.
And that’s Boots as a filmmaker, honestly. The back third of this movie is fucking crazy. He swings for the fences and whether or not it lands really is up to the viewer. But he never half asses anything and it shows. I adored it, even more than Sorry to Bother You. This is just a FUN and oddly inspiring and uplifting movie, and it’s landing at the perfect time. Coming together to fight for change is the only way it happens. People have power as a collective. And for all the craziness of this film, that’s the central message and it’s so important.
Alamo gave us all wigs and we put them on and they took a big group pic of us afterwards. 😂
I love The Velvet Gang, I want to continue to watch their antics 😭💛
“They don’t want to be art, they want to be the artists.” hit me like a gut punch what a perfect line. Second only to “I can’t be with somebody who can’t eat me out.”
Boots Riley really dropped a movie about the wonders of worker organization, saying no to performative men, the "out of sight out of mind" view on foreign workers, and fashion classism. And it started with a heist movie with luxury clothes.
But fr, I Love Boosters is going to live rent free in my head like Sorry to Bother You.
It's just as absurd and funny and it all actually makes sense with the themes he's eyeing.
Like, everyone died laughing when that nepo baby's leaning apartment showed up. But also, she's just choosing to live in a building that's clearly not up to code bc she's rich, in some kind of old money WASP way. But she'd call Corvette's friend "urban" for squatting in a chicken shop.
Like, she's just such an effective villain bc she's selling pointless status symbols by excluding large chunks of the population. The scene where she's having a breakdown bc velvet gang is reselling her stuff cheaply, which lessens the brand's exclusivity? There's a story of rich brits treating Burberry as chav/gopnik trash in early 2000s bc Danniella Westbrook was photographed wearing it.
But also that nepo is racist af. Like, between using terminology like "ghetto" to describe Corvette's gang and straight up stealing her work at multiple points while publicly hating her guts. But then again, isn't the fashion industry always like this?
First you see school admins dress coding for dressing like "saggy pants", then you see a crowd of white tech/finance bros that live near or at the Baltimore harbor talk about their streetwear obsession.
If you’re lesbian or love women and women lead movies with tons of ship potential and an amazing pro-union pro-strike anti-capitalist message AND black women you have to watch I Love Boosters right now
idk if anyone else noticed but i love that the protagonist of I Love Boosters' name is Cassandra but she goes by Corvette and the protagonist of Sorry to Bother You is called Cassius but he goes by Cash. both are people who have their identity taken over by being good at what they do, except Cassandra struggles with being seen as anything other than her lavish lifestyle (i.e. her nickname being a literal sports car) and Cassius essentially cuts away all of his ties with the people and culture around him and becomes nothing more than a stand-in for money and all the negative stuff associated with it
