It was a pretty quiet day. Well, as quiet as Central Command could get, anyway. It was always buzzing with activity, but so far, there hadn’t been any incidents. It was probably only a matter of time, though. It was still rather early- but not too early for a break. He needed to stretch his legs before getting back into the slog of paperwork.
He was distantly aware of the sound of frantic footsteps coming up the hall, but he had never been one to pay the most attention to his surroundings. He idly strolled through Central, eyes drifting up to the ceiling, to the buzzing of the lights and the cracks in the paint. Hands shoved in his pockets, not a care in the world-
-until the full force of a small yet sturdy body slammed into him, and down he went, going head first onto the ground. He doesn’t have time for anything more than a choked gasp before his forehead smacks against the cold, hard tile. Hello, ground. He’s more than a little dazed- laid there for longer than was dignified. But after much groaning, he sat up, rubbing his now red forehead. Ow. It seemed whoever had barrelled into him shared the sentiment of pain. But he had little sympathy for the other party, the harbinger of hurt on this otherwise uneventful Tuesday morning, and he whipped his head around.
“What the fuck-” His eyes caught up to his mouth, which he promptly shut when he registered who was sitting on the floor with him. Mustang’s mutterings about a certain pipsqueak getting on his nerves suddenly made sense. He sighed, any vitriol he might have had being exhaled out.
“Hey Fullmetal.” He paused as he surveyed the scattered pages, then looked under his own hand- he was leaning on one of them. Unfortunately, it was now a bit scrunched up too, but he smoothed it out as best he could. He got on his knees with a grumble and started collecting the rest of the paper, tapping it into a neat pile before holding it out.
“Today’s report day, huh?” Geez, the kid looked frazzled. Couldn’t blame him- he remembered a time when he had been like that, after all.
