"Again?"

This piece is dedicated to the recent Club Q shooting which occurred last night. It's disheartening and enraging to see that Queer people still cannot live in peace in this world, let alone be safe in their own safe spaces!

My heart goes out the victims and survivors of this incident, as well as to the families and friends of said victims and survivors.

Let it also be known that the shooter's motives for committing this crime don't exist in a vacuum. Queerphobic rhetoric, hate speech and lies have been especially rampant in the mainstream media this year, with queer folks being labelled as predators, groomers, degenerates, etc by anti queer groups, politicans, social media accounts, etc.

All of this hate and propaganda has led up to this moment. This is what these anti-queer bigots have been working towards. And they aren't going to stop with this event. They're going to want more shootings and more terrorism and more hate against queer people, and they aren't going to stop until queer people are completely wiped from existence.

Let us mourn and be sad and be angry and be afraid, and then let us take our anger and let it empower us to fight against bigotry.

Mourn for the dead, and then fight like hell for the living. Queer anger is queer power. Don't be afraid to use it.

ryan murphy made dahmer and decided it's enough ideas for one year and now we have ahs:nyc with basically the same "plot" (it's weird saying plot cause dahmer was a real serial killer, but plot in the american horror story) and some weird gay pandemic in the background. this man is delusional.

So this….I’m committed to watching AHS NYC for all the NYC Gay Lifestyle in Horror flick feels. But every time I see a Dahmer reference I get so mad. It feels like, Ryan Murphy could have made a great season, and explored exorcism of real life horrors to the LGBTQ community via the Horror movie genre (specifically HIV and the Hate Crime aspect of Jeffrey Dahmer/Wisconsin Police treatment of BIPOC LGBTQ folks. He could have made it all art. Instead here we are looking at a season with very few POC, a Dahmer reference that feels used, an HIV reference that may land well…(or not)…idk let’s see next week—and it still makes people think of his badly exotified Jeffrey Dahmer series. Murphy really shot himself on the foot for no reason.

I am very amused with the collision of Tumblr/Twitter right now. Honestly this may not be a hot take but hear me out. I think Twitter users really need you more than you think. I think they need your perspective no matter how wild and nerdy we all are over here. I have used this platform for the longest, mainly to reblog my favorite things as a form of expression - mostly in my main account @la-boricua . I used Twitter to keep up with trending news and topics. But I am ok with this merging of worlds. So as a Libra ♎️ I’m going to be the stereotypical devil’s advocate for both sides.

Tumblr: this also used to be a hype place for activism up until censorship arrived and turned off a bunch of peeps. I would love a come back if that space where innovation in organizing and activism happens.

Twitter: You all have been in an echo chamber for a long time — even though you don’t want to admit it—Twitter was also that. It’s ok to hear new things, different voices—even if they come in the form of cool fandoms and gif use you are not familiar with.

Me—-while I was never truly gone…I have never consistently used Tumblr outside of niche interest and now I’m exploring doing microblogging again. The saturation of Twitter had turned me off from it for the longest so I will try this out for size. Everything has its upside 😁

#DVAM2019 - In The Brooklyn Public Library tonight- such powerful words from survivors telling us lived experience using poetry, piano-Beethoven, testimony. I’m so grateful when I am giving the privilege to stand witness. When women relate their stories, hear them, believe them. When survivors of all genders relate their stories, hear them, believe them.

Today the media has been buzzing about forgiveness and religion. When you find yourself asking: “Why doesn’t she leave?” Say out loud: Forgiveness. Religion. — Misplaced concepts are hurting and killing mothers. Right now as I listen to a survivor play the piano, and hear that her access to art was limited by someone else. The same thing was said by poet who has written over 1000 poems since leaving abuse. Is a misplaced concept of forgiveness worth this? Our society left without creativity, art, talent, community, support, mothers, parents and children? - When you speak about forgiveness...really question what you are talking about.

Survivors have stayed in abusive relationships thinking they had to forgive-and we all have a role creating that and sustaining that in one way or another.

Intimate Partner Violence is a societal problem, created by everyone- not just a group of individuals making bad choices.
