Assignment 1- Introductory Blog Post
My name is Shantel Plummer, and I am a 3rd year Global Development student at Queens University. I am taking this course to be more familiar with writing on Social Media. Sometimes on social media people share things and receive love and support or are ridiculed for making grammar mistakes or even having an opinion. Pictures and words can go viral and make a large impact on the world. My goal is not to change the world internationally but instead cater and contribute to a small community that is interested in the same subject as me. The subject that I will be discussing is becoming vegan. This is one of the most talked about health option along with the Keto diet. Especially now that the new year has just started, and everyone wants their “summer bodies”.
The reason why I became interested in Veganism was because about four to five years ago I started to feel very ill. Every time I ate or went too long without eating, I would start to feel sick. I went to the doctor and they ran tests, but no one called back and there was no answer. When there was a response it was that I am too overweight. So, I was determined to figure out what was making me feel so sick. I spent money on dietitians and exercise plans. After dumping money into diets and gym memberships nothing changed. I decided that I had to make a lifestyle change that was going to benefit me and make me feel better again. So, I became Vegan for 8 months straight. My health changed and I started to lose weight naturally and feel better.
Social Media was a key part to me continuing being a vegan. It is very influential and encourages people to do things that they never thought of doing before. Social media doesn’t always show the truth because when I was vegan it was the hardest 8 months of life. However, with all the love and support on social media and family, it made it easier to continue. Now that there are more people aboard with being a vegan. More recipe books, groups and blogs are being made. It is so popular that January is being called Veganuary. Inspiring and motivating many people to choose a clean way of eating. Why should someone consider being vegan?
Four words, Nutrition, Animals, Environment and Health. One of these things has to mean something to you!
