had an improv exercise during my writing class for scene building and the prompt was "protagonist gets into an argument with their partner, how would you start the next scene?" and people were saying things like, the character goes into the bedroom and stew, they go on a walk, etc. prof was like hmmm we need a little more conflict and tension for a good scene. so I said "they immediately make a hinge profile" and the whole class was just gobsmacked 💀💀💀

there is actually nothing that drives me crazier than climate change denialism. at least at the heart of most other forms of anti-intellectualism (thinking of anti-vaxxers, for example) there are people who just do not totally understand the data and are kinda scared about what will happen to them if they take expert recommendations at face value. given the american people's historical relationship with the medical and pharmaceutical industries, along with our (canada's and america's) abysmal levels of science literacy, I can understand that. but climate change deniers think that all scientists are just outright liars. you can't show or explain any data to demonstrate your point because they will plug their ears and go LALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU. and these same mfers will then have delusional takes about how your country should manage the environmental problems that THEY caused. please be fucking serious

unironically I feel like what's happening to our indigenous communities in canada with these wildfires just absolutely destroying them and pretty much ONLY them is a kind of ecologically manufactured genocide. like there was specific government policy cutting funds to firefighting, including emergency firefighting services. compared to our actuals for wildfire season last year our govt basically underfunded the province by $100M and it's disproportionately destroying the reservations and indigenous communities. worse yet I was talking to my partner about this (he grew up next to a rez and knows a lot about native issues in his home region) and apparently the wildfires are a specific cause of displacement and homelessness in our urban indigenous populations. this is a government manufactured disparity
