Happy Pride Month to those two women dancing together in the foreground of the boat scene in Godzilla (1954).
I’m sorry your romantic foibles were overshadowed by a big ass atomic lizard thing.
out of the tags with you
reading sepideh's thoughts on the finale is so fucking cathartic i love her so much
everyone talking about langdon in the tags are missing that the more direct comparison is robbie himself. he blows up on her over the fact she wont report to the board over a five second delay in care. when in season one, robbie has a much bigger delay in care because of his dissociating and meltdown. he thinks he let them down and he doesnt want her to do the same, wont let her get the chance. while he got comforted by those who knew about his condition, al-hashimi is alone, crying in her car as she drowns in the loneliness of her chronic illness.
while her reporting to the board is important, that same logic should be applied to him and his crippling mental struggles. yes, she should report to the board, but so should he. but he sees it as it being *his* ER, the ER he fights gloria about everyday, the ER passed down to him from his predecessor, the ER he watches al-hashimi try to change before his eyes and we can see how good intention leaves him. he knows her going to the board will stagnant her career, will stagnant the possibility of her taking over the ER in a permanent capacity. this is also why it would take an unthinkable reason to drive him to report to the board in turn about *his* issues.
i dont think robbie is this horrible, misogynist piece of shit people make him out to be but he is in every way deeply troubled, hurts people as much as he hurts himself or they hurt him, worse even, and an absolute hypocrite. he sees her as competition, direct competition, and someone who absolutely would take the position from him compared to abbot or shen who never would for the former and the latter isnt experienced enough. thats why he undermines her (or at least i would find that much more compelling and layered than it being written off as misogyny, especially when we see robbie constantly reaffirm the women. i.e “doctor mohan” in season one i ate that up the way she looks so shocked but appreciative to see that despite her undermining his authority as chief attending repeatedly that he still respects her as a doctor).
He’s intimidated by her; by her competence, optimism, her enthusiasm, her empathy... He sees things in her that he doesn’t see in himself (obviously Robby is a very competent doctor). He lashes out because he feels lesser. If she is better at this job than he is what does that say about him? Robby is about to leave for a 3 month sabbatical. He worries about what will happen when he’s gone and if Al-Hashimi can run and improve the ED it means he’s no longer needed. And that’s his real fear.
your problem is you think if you communicate with clarity and earnestness that people will actually understand you
Shh...it's okay. I'm here. I can't breathe. It's okay. Together. Come on, Dicle. Let's breathe together. It's so hot. It's okay, I know.
FINN BENNETT as PETER PRIOR TRUE DETECTIVE: NIGHT COUNTRY
You were trapped for three days. A full three days. Why didn't you ask for my help?
MY LITERAL FAVORITE TROPE EVER.
two people, with no one on their side, running through the streets and chaos to protect one another. what more do you need?
ASDFGHKL!!!! She admits to both to herself and him her heart aches for him and then cups his cheek ever so gently, caressing him. No wonder he leans in for that encore kiss...
He craved it so badly but she pretends to doze off in embarrassment after realizing how much she's revealed to him.
He really said 'So you DO KNOW OTHER MEN!!!"
HIS TENDERNESS! THEY ARE MAKING ME FERAL!
Just what's the deal with the malaise! LOL!
Clap if you feel deep profound discomfort
me when i start talking about the jaehaerys/alysanne brood...and how saera will always be daddy's favourite...he cannot project on her because she behaves in a way he can't give himself permission to...daddy's favourite being the worst possible thing that can happen to a girl like that
Imagine the level of whimsy I could reach if I just had $5M in my bank account rn
finding somebody who will laugh at your shitty jokes is joy-inducing but finding a motherfucker who can yes-and all the esoteric bullshit you put out is pure cocaine. this must be the shit all those racuous but good-natured scoundrels down at the tavern are on
Watched the mango trailers and they all looked fun, especially the WJY x CZY one and Dancing with the Tide, but my favorite shockingly was Love for You, the modern with Zhang Jingyi and Song Weilong of all people. Looks angstilicious! Also the slomo fondling of that giant pool cue ahaha
Song Weilong hasn't worked for me in any other drama except Go Ahead, and now with this new drama where the FL is his "meimei" and childhood friend/family similar to how it was in Go Ahead, it's clear what type of role he is best suited for. His manager/agency better be taking notes.
The heavy breathing during this scene *faints*.
They could've chosen any another frame to put the title card on. They're really saying "watch the drama for the details".
GIVE IT TO ME.
in almost every other children's book where the main heroine is swept away to a land of whimsy she's shown having a lovely time; braving dangers occasionally, trying to find her way home, sure, but ultimately delighting in the magic around her. meanwhile alice spends her entire time in wonderland like
look, here’s the thing: alice in wonderland’s enduring fucking charm is that it perfectly captures the vibe of being a very tired and annoyed child who is nonetheless required to play along with adult nonsense.
alice is dragged from place to place without warning, forced to play stupid games with no good prizes, grilled over her schooling and manners and recitation and dress, scolded, judged, insulted to her face, sent away, given gifts she didn’t ask for and doesn’t like, corrected incorrectly, been subject to shifting and arbitrary rules, and then when she gets snappish with all this bullshit everyone acts like a little girl’s temper is the end of the fucking world.
alice in wonderland isn’t a drug trip or a nightmare or a metaphor, that’s just what being ten years old is LIKE. that’s why kids love it so much. even if they can’t quite articulate how, they recognize themselves in it.
I'm gonna go ahead and add - the reaction image is barely even a joke. This is the original illustration of her at the Mad Hatter's tea party.
look at how fucking angry she is
"19th century child points out what a load of bullshit expectations for 19th century children were" is the most enduring type of 19th century children's book for a reason
katniss: everyone’s so focused on protecting peeta because they too know how pure hearted he is and believe that he—a boy they’ve never even met before—deserves to survive over them and their friends of literal decades
finnick, to literally everyone else: okay if peeta dies she’s gonna kill all of us and then herself, so hands in, protect bread boy on three-
