Kit and Ty; a head canon on feelings

"Ty, come here", Kit had said. " I want you to take a look at this globe you have here. There are a million islands, right?", he said, spinning the globe, gingerly rubbing his fingers against the globe. "Actually, there are 2 million at most, but you are right.", he pointed out, pulling that information from some newspaper he must've hyperfixated at some night when he was a kid. "Now imagine those islands are all the sensations you feel, and those sensations can be grouped into countries." Kit rattled on while pointing on the tiny islands in the Philippines, the tiny Jeju Island in Korea, the Java Island, where Magnus must've been born who knows how many years ago. "All those countries represent different feelings. Every country is different from the other, but they all make you a big world. So don't be scared of them. Embrace them, and express them." Kit said. He had hoped this explanation would make Ty more aware of himself and his feelings. Ty was still confused at the explanation. "But what do sensations have to do with islands? Islands are sediments of earth, while sensations are.. things that confuse me." he had said, moving Kit's hand away from the globe and to his beating heart. "I say, that these sensations are something we simply must sail on. We ride the waves and wait for it to end, because life is a never ending series of waves, and we built boats and wear lifejackets to survive. And nobody needs to judge why we do things the way we do. They are not us, and we are not them. All of us are like different songs. Some of us will have to take things in harder, and that's okay."

Kit had asked, confidently now that Livvy had told Kit how Ty would say his name in his sleep, put Billie Eilish’s “Ocean Eyes” on loop at certain times of the day, and refuse to eat cookies whenever it was offered to him.

“ When I am near you, my heart rate increases, but not in an anxious way. It increases in a way that it makes me happy. I slept in front of your room because I wanted to know why you had this effect on me. I especially like looking into your eyes and staring at you, because I think you are beautiful.” he stated bluntly, before starting to feel a sort of warmth creeping up his face. “And saying that, it makes me feel scared yet light in a weird way. And very shy too. But since you want to know so much how I feel, I will power through my embarrassment and continue. Your eyes are very beautiful, it looks a bit like the sea in my old atlas books. I also love how your hair fluffs up when you just woke up and how you smoothen it when you think. I also like the shape of your face, your jaw, and I love how beautiful you look under the sunlight. And it makes me not need my playlist or headphones because your voice soothes me. I like it when Julian comforts me but your words comfort me even when you say weird things. You could recite me the ingredients of cough syrup and I would listen as long as it is your voice. You are like a drug, but when I think of you, I feel healthier and want to become better, train better and do everything better. But when you said you couldn’t forgive me, it hurt. It hurt so much I cried for the first time after Livvy died. But you-, you forgive-“

Ty stopped speaking, realising Kit was already very close to him, their lips almost brushing each other. He wanted to run, but he decided to pull Kit into a hug as it, as Julian said once, is a good way to say sorry. But instead of a hug, Kit pulled him to a kiss, making Ty warm all over.

“That’s all I need to know”, Kit said, pulling away. They kissed again, now fiercer and hungrier, until they heard a faint noise coming from the entrance to Ty’s room, cutting the blissful moment short.

“Oh wow,” Julian muttered.

it’s pretty easy and if ty heard it it’d definitely soothe him

just be imagining him playing this while ty sits on his lap, breathing fast then slowing down to match the music.

Ty knew the melody, he has heard it a thousand times. It had been the first piece on his Spotify that grounded his breathing. But when Kit plays it, his mind imagines each note as a conversation, a million ways to say “I love you”. Kit, who used to learn it for bonding with his adoptive family now learns it to compensate for his unwillingness to whip out a thesaurus to describe the depth of Ty’s beauty. He plays with muscle memory yet his mind is writing a poem about Ty. And that changed the way he played the music beyond the notes on the sheet. A note held just a milisecond longer, a musical sigh that wasn’t written in the sheet, all creating a new song out of an old one. Ty only heard to soothe himself, but he ends up receiving this beautiful message. Just like what Uncle Jem had told him once. Zhi yin. Understanding music. And Ty’s autism made the pictures even clearer.

I guess it’s time for me to share my most precious headcanon with you guys.

First of all -for those who don’t know me - I’m a typical nerd. You know the ones obsessed with classical music? When I opened this account I was totally obsessed with Kit Herondale and La Campanella (the violin version). And I couldn’t help but imagine Kit playing La Campanella passionately with Jem. After all, Jace was a pianist so maybe Kit was playing violin? I asked Cassie if he was playing any instrument like Jace but she said no. That was 2-3 years ago. (P.S.: It kinda broke my heart but sshhh)

But now Jem and Tessa practically adopted Kit. So in this headcanon, Jem teaches Kit how to play violin because why not?

• Kit playes violin when he is upset, thoughtful or angry. For 15 years, his coping mechanism was sarcasm but now he has another way out. (That doesn’t mean he isn’t sarcastic now. Bold of you to assume a Herondale would left his sarcasm behind.)

• And he’s damn good at playing it, let me tell you. Everyone is surprised at it because as you know violin is a difficult instrument but he is a Herondale after all. There’s nothing he cannot achieve.

• 3 years after QOAAD, the Clave gives a mission to him. In order to accomplish the mission, Kit has to work with Ty and Dru. So he goes to LA Institute. Ty arrives a day later (you know being a Centurion and stuff)

• And oh boy. Damn. Kit left him 3 years ago and here he was pushing his all buttons the right way.

• Everyone is talking about Kit seeing Ty in Centurion uniform but how about Ty seeing Kit???

• Because we all know Ty is one of those people who gets turned on by seeing his crush playing classical music. Don’t deny it.

• He doesn’t know what he is experiencing. Well, he does but he doesn’t understand. He never felt something like that before. Why now? Wasn’t he supposed to be angry with his ex-best friend after he promised not to be separated then run away like a little chicken???

• Kit playing violin was the best thing he has ever seen. It’s going to haunt his dreams. [Some of them are beginning of his wet dreams :):)]

• Kit doesn’t realise Ty’s frozen state at the door. He’s overwhelmed by his emotions after going back to the place he run away from 3 years ago and trying to solve them with his baby 2. (We all know baby 1 is baby Carstairs, oh shush)

• “T-Ty? Were you there the whole time?”

• Our autistic baby can’t even form a sentence because oh god what just happened

• This time, Ty runs away.
