Gold was simply vibing underneath the table, laying his back and reading a book. But his mind was... Somewhat elsewhere. Yeah, he was paying attention to the book, it was a great book, he liked it, but he wondered. Who was Barracuda? Like, as a person. He wondered how he acted, how he spoke. Pyrare never told him anything . . . Even when he was curious.

But- eh. That was a thought for another day, he decided, as he pushed that to the back of his mind. Book Time.

“Ah, there you are” Pyrare hummed as he noticed Gold down under the table.

He smiled down at him, finding the sight of him huddled over a book a few times his size on the kitchen floor just a bit amusing, “I don’t know why you always insist on reading there… I’m sure there’s plenty of more comfortable places around the house, no?”

Having found what he’d been looking for in the cabinet nearby he stood up again. Feeling the movement way more intensely in his bones than he expected.. since when did even crouching down get this uncomfortable? He wasn’t that old just yet…

"This is a comfortable place." Gold responded, looking up. "It's darker than any of the other places you'd probably suggest, too. Makes it more comfortable in my opinion." He closed the book and got up, shuffling from under the table. He stretched briefly before looking up at Pyrare. "What are you doing?"

“Whatever you say Gold… at the very least you could bring a lantern or something, reading in the dark like that isn’t good for your eyes.” Pyrare shook his head as he put down the flour on the kitchen counter.

“I was about to start making some dumplings for dinner later, we have quite a few potatoes so I thought I might finally use them”

"Meh." -- "Really? I didn't notice we had potatoes at all." Gold snickered. "Do you need any help, though ?"

"And also, yeah." He hummed, heading over to stand beside Pyrare (though not too close - risk of being kicked on complete accident and all). "Last time I tried to cook alone, we all know how that went."

“Oh don’t even remind me… I can’t believe you didn’t remember not to leave boiling water unattended, you were lucky I got home so soon” Pyrare sighed at the memory, as sweet as Gold could be some days he could be unbelievable. Like all children. “But I think you learned from that mistake”

“Mind fetching me a knife?… or actually two, you can help peel the potatoes, it’ll be faster that way” Sure, after the previous few times Gold tried cooking on his own Pyrare could’ve been a bit hesitant but he would keep an eye on him, surely not much could go wrong that way? Pyrare unknowingly jinxed himself.

Gold didn't respond verbally, but he did open the drawer and pull out two knives. He floated one over to Pyrare, and examined his own. He could do this! He can cook! He just has to try. Harder than before, that is. Yeah.

But something in the back of his mind was telling him that this was gonna go to complete and utter shit. He ignored it though. He wasn't gonna let a few uncertain thoughts screw with this learning experience! Little did he know-

“Thank you,” Pyrare took one of the knives from him before picking up a potato.

“Alright, you just need to slowly and carefully cut the peel off, ideally if you don’t cut off too much of the actual potato but you don’t have too worry about that too much just yet.” Pyrare started explaining as peeled one of them as an example, “just pay attention to what you’re doing so you don’t cut yourself on accident, when you’re done you can just put them in the bowl there and we’ll clean them later”

“Please just be careful okay?” Pyrare glanced over at the knife, compared to Gold it was a bit larger than ideal but he knew the other was definitely used to working with impracticality sized equipment but still, he was just the slightest bit worried.

"Mhm." Gold hummed in acknowledgement before he got right into it. He made sure to go slow and take his time- he wasn't about to slice his finger off with a knife that was comically large compared to him.

At one point it slipped though, and he squeaked, dropping it onto the table, "OW-" ...Then he paused.

The blade did not even touch him. He'd expected it to, hence why he said 'ow', but it did not. Wow. He now felt like a idiot.

He put his head into his hands in embarrassment.

“Are you alright Gold?” Pyrare quickly glanced over at him once he’d heard the squeak. He quickly set his own knife down. He didn’t see if Gold had actually cut himself or if he’d just panicked (as he sometimes does) but his mind immediately went to the worst possible scenario.

"Yes," Gold replied, lifting his head out of his hands, but he avoided looking up at Pyrare from embarrassment. "Just dropped it and it scared me, that's all. Dunno why I said 'ow'."

“If the knife’s hard to use for you, you can go clean the few we have already and then take out a shredder and another bowl, you can start making the dough.”

He glanced down at his hand, the cut was tiny, honestly it was more an annoyance than anything.

"Mhm." Gold replied. He stood up and floated to the cupboards, where he took out a bowl and the shredder. He took a moment to stare at the bowl, then put it away in turn for a bigger one. Ya never know. He turned, shut the cupboard gently (he never liked Big Noises) and headed back to the table.

Pyrare wiped his blood off with a cloth, glancing over at Gold.

“Good job, you can start and try grating the potatoes into the bowl. Watch what you’re doing”

Gold wordlessly began grating the potatoes over the bowl. He struggled at first with getting a grip on it to where it would wORK, but he soon fell into a comfortable rhythm of doing it. It was kind of fun, gotta admit.

“You’re getting the hang of it quite nicely” he said to Gold as he turned to the fridge to take out what they’d need for the dough.

"Ow-" He hissed, pulling his hand away. "I'm not cheese." It wasn't too bad, just a minor scrape on his finger, but still. Ow.

“Are you alright? I told you to be careful..” Pyrare set the ingredients on the counter, taking a hold of Gold’s to look at it. Man weren’t they both lucky, like father like son…

"Yes," Gold responded. He didn't complain about Pyrare's touch for once- it was actually quite comforting this time around... "I'm okay. What's after this?"

Pyrare savoured the touch a little, Gold didn’t let him hold him too much which, Pyrare could respect but… moments like these were still nice.

“Well now that we’re done with the potatoes we can start making the dough”

Gold was simply vibing underneath the table, laying his back and reading a book. But his mind was... Somewhat elsewhere. Yeah, he was paying attention to the book, it was a great book, he liked it, but he wondered. Who was Barracuda? Like, as a person. He wondered how he acted, how he spoke. Pyrare never told him anything . . . Even when he was curious.

But- eh. That was a thought for another day, he decided, as he pushed that to the back of his mind. Book Time.

“Ah, there you are” Pyrare hummed as he noticed Gold down under the table.

He smiled down at him, finding the sight of him huddled over a book a few times his size on the kitchen floor just a bit amusing, “I don’t know why you always insist on reading there… I’m sure there’s plenty of more comfortable places around the house, no?”

Having found what he’d been looking for in the cabinet nearby he stood up again. Feeling the movement way more intensely in his bones than he expected.. since when did even crouching down get this uncomfortable? He wasn’t that old just yet…

"This is a comfortable place." Gold responded, looking up. "It's darker than any of the other places you'd probably suggest, too. Makes it more comfortable in my opinion." He closed the book and got up, shuffling from under the table. He stretched briefly before looking up at Pyrare. "What are you doing?"

“Whatever you say Gold… at the very least you could bring a lantern or something, reading in the dark like that isn’t good for your eyes.” Pyrare shook his head as he put down the flour on the kitchen counter.

“I was about to start making some dumplings for dinner later, we have quite a few potatoes so I thought I might finally use them”

“Oh don’t even remind me… I can’t believe you didn’t remember not to leave boiling water unattended, you were lucky I got home so soon” Pyrare sighed at the memory, as sweet as Gold could be some days he could be unbelievable. Like all children. “But I think you learned from that mistake”

“Mind fetching me a knife?… or actually two, you can help peel the potatoes, it’ll be faster that way” Sure, after the previous few times Gold tried cooking on his own Pyrare could’ve been a bit hesitant but he would keep an eye on him, surely not much could go wrong that way? Pyrare unknowingly jinxed himself.

Gold didn't respond verbally, but he did open the drawer and pull out two knives. He floated one over to Pyrare, and examined his own. He could do this! He can cook! He just has to try. Harder than before, that is. Yeah.

But something in the back of his mind was telling him that this was gonna go to complete and utter shit. He ignored it though. He wasn't gonna let a few uncertain thoughts screw with this learning experience! Little did he know-

“Alright, you just need to slowly and carefully cut the peel off, ideally if you don’t cut off too much of the actual potato but you don’t have too worry about that too much just yet.” Pyrare started explaining as peeled one of them as an example, “just pay attention to what you’re doing so you don’t cut yourself on accident, when you’re done you can just put them in the bowl there and we’ll clean them later”

“Please just be careful okay?” Pyrare glanced over at the knife, compared to Gold it was a bit larger than ideal but he knew the other was definitely used to working with impracticality sized equipment but still, he was just the slightest bit worried.

At one point it slipped though, and he squeaked, dropping it onto the table, "OW-" ...Then he paused.

The blade did not even touch him. He'd expected it to, hence why he said 'ow', but it did not. Wow. He now felt like a idiot.

He put his head into his hands in embarrassment.

He glanced down at his hand, the cut was tiny, honestly it was more an annoyance than anything.

"Mhm." Gold replied. He stood up and floated to the cupboards, where he took out a bowl and the shredder. He took a moment to stare at the bowl, then put it away in turn for a bigger one. Ya never know. He turned, shut the cupboard gently (he never liked Big Noises) and headed back to the table.

“Good job, you can start and try grating the potatoes into the bowl. Watch what you’re doing”

He smiled down at him, finding the sight of him huddled over a book a few times his size on the kitchen floor just a bit amusing, “I don’t know why you always insist on reading there… I’m sure there’s plenty of more comfortable places around the house, no?”

Having found what he’d been looking for in the cabinet nearby he stood up again. Feeling the movement way more intensely in his bones than he expected.. since when did even crouching down get this uncomfortable? He wasn’t that old just yet…

“Mind fetching me a knife?… or actually two, you can help peel the potatoes, it’ll be faster that way” Sure, after the previous few times Gold tried cooking on his own Pyrare could’ve been a bit hesitant but he would keep an eye on him, surely not much could go wrong that way? Pyrare unknowingly jinxed himself.

Gold didn't respond verbally, but he did open the drawer and pull out two knives. He floated one over to Pyrare, and examined his own. He could do this! He can cook! He just has to try. Harder than before, that is. Yeah.

But something in the back of his mind was telling him that this was gonna go to complete and utter shit. He ignored it though. He wasn't gonna let a few uncertain thoughts screw with this learning experience! Little did he know-

“Alright, you just need to slowly and carefully cut the peel off, ideally if you don’t cut off too much of the actual potato but you don’t have too worry about that too much just yet.” Pyrare started explaining as peeled one of them as an example, “just pay attention to what you’re doing so you don’t cut yourself on accident, when you’re done you can just put them in the bowl there and we’ll clean them later”

“Please just be careful okay?” Pyrare glanced over at the knife, compared to Gold it was a bit larger than ideal but he knew the other was definitely used to working with impracticality sized equipment but still, he was just the slightest bit worried.

The blade did not even touch him. He'd expected it to, hence why he said 'ow', but it did not. Wow. He now felt like a idiot.

He put his head into his hands in embarrassment.

Gold didn't respond verbally, but he did open the drawer and pull out two knives. He floated one over to Pyrare, and examined his own. He could do this! He can cook! He just has to try. Harder than before, that is. Yeah.

But something in the back of his mind was telling him that this was gonna go to complete and utter shit. He ignored it though. He wasn't gonna let a few uncertain thoughts screw with this learning experience! Little did he know-

“Thank you,” Pyrare took one of the knives from him before picking up a potato.

“Alright, you just need to slowly and carefully cut the peel off, ideally if you don’t cut off too much of the actual potato but you don’t have too worry about that too much just yet.” Pyrare started explaining as peeled one of them as an example, “just pay attention to what you’re doing so you don’t cut yourself on accident, when you’re done you can just put them in the bowl there and we’ll clean them later”

“Please just be careful okay?” Pyrare glanced over at the knife, compared to Gold it was a bit larger than ideal but he knew the other was definitely used to working with impracticality sized equipment but still, he was just the slightest bit worried.

"Mhm." Gold hummed in acknowledgement before he got right into it. He made sure to go slow and take his time- he wasn't about to slice his finger off with a knife that was comically large compared to him.

At one point it slipped though, and he squeaked, dropping it onto the table, "OW-" ...Then he paused.

The blade did not even touch him. He'd expected it to, hence why he said 'ow', but it did not. Wow. He now felt like a idiot.

He put his head into his hands in embarrassment.

“Are you alright Gold?” Pyrare quickly glanced over at him once he’d heard the squeak. He quickly set his own knife down. He didn’t see if Gold had actually cut himself or if he’d just panicked (as he sometimes does) but his mind immediately went to the worst possible scenario.

"Yes," Gold replied, lifting his head out of his hands, but he avoided looking up at Pyrare from embarrassment. "Just dropped it and it scared me, that's all. Dunno why I said 'ow'."

“Oh good.. thank Tree, you scared me as well” Pyrare gave a quiet sigh of relief.

“If the knife’s hard to use for you, you can go clean the few we have already and then take out a shredder and another bowl, you can start making the dough.”

“Alright… if you say so.” He sighed, knowing better than to try and reason with Gold.

He continued working, paying more attention to Gold and his knife than his own.

Gold was simply vibing underneath the table, laying his back and reading a book. But his mind was... Somewhat elsewhere. Yeah, he was paying attention to the book, it was a great book, he liked it, but he wondered. Who was Barracuda? Like, as a person. He wondered how he acted, how he spoke. Pyrare never told him anything . . . Even when he was curious.

But- eh. That was a thought for another day, he decided, as he pushed that to the back of his mind. Book Time.

He smiled down at him, finding the sight of him huddled over a book a few times his size on the kitchen floor just a bit amusing, “I don’t know why you always insist on reading there… I’m sure there’s plenty of more comfortable places around the house, no?”

Having found what he’d been looking for in the cabinet nearby he stood up again. Feeling the movement way more intensely in his bones than he expected.. since when did even crouching down get this uncomfortable? He wasn’t that old just yet…

He closed the book and got up, shuffling from under the table. He stretched briefly before looking up at Pyrare. "What are you doing?"

“I was about to start making some dumplings for dinner later, we have quite a few potatoes so I thought I might finally use them”

“Mind fetching me a knife?… or actually two, you can help peel the potatoes, it’ll be faster that way” Sure, after the previous few times Gold tried cooking on his own Pyrare could’ve been a bit hesitant but he would keep an eye on him, surely not much could go wrong that way?
