Eliminate the Impossible // Jess and Dex
“If you want. I mean, that was a very vague point.” Jess was conflicted. She didn’t want anything else to do with him, but she really had no idea where she was. Jess didn’t have a reason to be over here.
She followed the boy as he sauntered down the sidewalk. “Are you from the south? Maybe midwest?” His dialect was similar to that which she had tried so hard to avoid throughout her adolescence. She could not help but ask. Jess did not want anything else to do with that place.
She clinched her teeth as she awaited his response.
“Of course. No problem. I’d be glad to show you the way.” He turned back around and started down the same path he had started, waiting for her to catch up with him.
When she did and he heard her question, he turned and flashed her a million dollar smile. “Chicago, actually. Not the best part of town but not the worst, either.” He commented, kicking a rock as he walked. “What about you? Where’re you from?” he asked, curiosity laced in his voice.
Chicago? That was unexpected. She watched the rock he kicked as it bounced across the walk way.
"Kansas." She muttered. "It's the worst. Did you like Chicago?" It was one of the places Jess wanted to visit. She had a list of places, actually. It sprang from years couped up in her room, unable to do anything but dream.
"It seems like it would be so beautiful. Towering skyscrapers, bustling streets. I can only begin to imagine." The excitement leaked through her otherwise stony demeanor.

The boy jumped as they made eye contact. Jess wanted to disappear. She hadn’t meant to startle him so. She was quite startled herself.
“You’re lost?” He answered her.
“I suppose.” She replied. Jess ran her hand across her bag, feeling the familiar shape of the books tucked away inside of it. It was comforting. “I was walking back from the library. If you could just point me in that direction, I’ll get out of your hair.” Jess was shut down for the evening. She had no desire to become acquainted with this person at the moment.
“You’re walking back from the library? So you want to go to the dorms?” he asked lightly, slightly confused. “Well, the dorms are somewhere that way,” he jabbed his thumb across his shoulder after pulling his hand out of his pocket. “I can’t give you play by play directions.” He shrugged and frowned. “Do ya want me to go with ya? I have nothin’ else to do, really.”

Jess was tired. She had been working what felt like nonstop since she had arrived, both with her studies and her powers. She had discovered some interesting things about herself, as well as some of the people she had encountered.
She was not one for making friends, yet Jess had met several people who seemed nice enough. They wanted to associate with her, which was a first. But, at the same time, they were just as odd as she was, having powers and all, so she felt she needed to take their relationships with a grain of salt.
Jess just wanted to go to her room. She was somewhere between the library and her dorm when she took a wrong turn. With her mind other placed, Jess didn’t even notice until she was staring down some boy, on the opposite side of the campus.
“Oh… uh… sorry.” She muttered. “I’m not… I just… lost.”
Dexter was bored. Well, when wasn’t he bored lately? So he decided on going for a walk. Maybe if he met someone they could make it interesting, but right now he had nothing to do and no where to go. He supposed he could go visit Watson, but she would just end up complaining about his over-protectiveness and try to kick him out.
He had been looking at the ground as he walked, though he looked up quickly when he almost ran into some girl. “Whoah! Sorry about that,” he said, steadying himself so he woudn’t fall over because he had jolted back so far. “You’re lost? Well, I’m not the best with directions but I can try to help you,” he said with a light smile.
