To all my followers, I am so sorry that I have not been posting for a while. At lot has been hitting me and my family this year, and yesterday turned out to be the worst and longest 24 hours of my life. Here is whatās been happening:
My son was taken away by helicopter to a hospital hours away from home because I took him to the ER expecting them to run a couple tests, and give him an IV and some medicine; they instead broke the news to me that he has a tumor the size of an orange or baseball on the left side of his brain. They say it could have been in his brain as far back as when he was born, even though up until recently he appeared to show no discernible signs that anything was wrong outside of common place issues, like the fact that earlier in the month he was teething and had a tough go of it, and I thought that after he seemed to be all better, he in fact was far from it. What a heck of a way to end an already tumultuous year.
More details according to my wife as she has informed me is: āthe thing the images I was shownā¦.the thing is hugeā¦.we knew that but it solidified it for meā¦ The tumor is being fed with blood/veinsā¦..thats partly why itās so bigā¦. There is swelling on the right side of the brain and fluid buildupā¦he called it hydrocephylis I believeā¦. The tumor is big enough that itās causing pinching on the right side a little which heās concerned aboutā¦ But there is a possible issue when it comes to removing the whole thingā¦. He said that because it is being fed, there is a high chance of blood loss since he is so little, he canāt lose a lotā¦. So they are going to go in, with caution, and remove as much as possible, he said it is possible they can remove all of it at onceā¦.but most likely he will have to leave someā¦. Once surgery is done, it goes off to pathology, if itās benignā¦.things are a little simplerā¦. If not, you know the general ideaā¦. Now he did say that if they donāt get all of itā¦.they will try chemo for a little bit and see if that shrinks itā¦.then if needed after a short time, they will do another surgery to remove the restā¦. So itās possible he could have 2 surgeries just for the tumor in a short span of timeā¦.I think he said about a weekā¦. He also said that the hydrocephylis makes things difficult on another levelā¦.if removal of tumor doesnāt reduce the fluid%swelling they will have to do another surgery and place a shunt to drain the fluid/pressureā¦. So 3 surgeries are possible in a VERY short period of time depending on how tomorrow goesā¦ He alsoā¦.very vehemently stated that having a pediatrician would NOT have changed the outcome, or allowed it to be caught soonerā¦..he said in the 15 years he has been doing thisā¦.only a handful of pediatricians have caught something like thisā¦..and usually only at the point that we didā¦. He emphasized thatā¦..same as the doc at womenās and childrenās didā¦.ā
As a result of all this hard to emotionally process information, financially, I do not know how we will recover as the bills get away from us.
To make matter even more difficult, just last night on my way to picking up my kids, I lost consciousness and veers off and hit something that flattened my tire on the driverās side, I think it broke something when I hit the curb-like divider in the road, because the car is barely running now, and the rear wheel suspension on the same side as the flat is broke clean off. Now with my wife staying at the hospital with our son, and me somewhat stranded at home with our 3 small children, she is not able to go to work, and canāt pick up her paycheck (does not get paid via direct deposit) which limits access to financial resources to sustain this house in the meanwhile. We have warning notices on utilities coming our way. So this is why I have been out and off of Tumblr. I have to be a father first, nothing else matters by my family, and I know that you all understand this.
What sucks right now, is that my car canāt drive because of the accident until I get a new tire, and get the suspension part replace by tomorrow which is also the day of the first surgery which I am deeply worried about for my sonās sake.
