Is fetching warm drinks really that great?
Better than doing math and paperwork I don't understand.
"Why is grabbing coffee fun? I don’t understand…"
Oh, it's not fun at all. It's just ten times better than what I thought I'd be doing.Â
I spend my days grabbing coffee...I never thought I'd be so happy.
Oh really? I’d ask what happened but no, don’t answer that. Your personal family stuff is yours.
Exactly! That’s why I decided to apply there. Oh, uhm, Fine Arts.Â
It's not exactly something I want to get into. Everyone has family drama to deal with, no need to pile on my own.
Do you have a certain focus? Or do you dabble in everything?
Day Drunk | Open
"Sharyn," her mother's condescending tone made the blonde feel small. "This is an opportunity others would kill for." When Sharyn's mother said that she wanted to have a mother/daughter day, she expected shopping and lunch; not a lecture at a five-star restaurant in The Skies. Poking her salad with her fork, Sharyn didn't meet her mother's eyes. "Well? Don't you have anything to say?"
"I'm sorry," she replied, her voice almost a whisper. "Thank you for the internship. I'll do my best."
"That's what I like to hear." Her mother smiled and continued to devour her meal. The only thing Sharyn could consume was the seemingly bottomless glass of wine. By the time her mother put her credit card down to pay, their waiter had topped off her glass at least five times. Maybe six. Sharyn didn't keep track.
"You can get yourself back home, right? I have a meeting I'm late for." Sharyn nodded, feeling the affects of the alcohol. Outside the restaurant, she hailed a cab. About to give her home address, she quickly changed her mind.
  "Take me to Vinyl Souls."
She stumbled into the store and composed herself. Though she didn't think the people here would judge her for being drunk so early in the day, she didn't want people to ask why she was drunk so early in the day. Making her way to the back, she ordered a burger and onion rings. Satisfied, she found herself a booth to melt into. Leaning back and closing her eyes, she just let the music sink into her bones. She couldn't think of a place she would rather be.
Maybe. But they’re still mothers.
Me? Well, nothing entirely specific like an internship. I work over at The Shirley Theatre, if you’re into movies and all those fancy stuff. Basically though, I’m just waiting for college to start.
That means different things to different people. My mother wasn't exactly a mother for the majority of my life. Now, I just feel like her employee.
That's actually so cool. I don't see movies often, but I always loved the atmosphere cinemas gave. What are you studying?
Huh. Well, if you say so. But still, you should maybe think about telling her. I mean, I don’t mean to pry but if it’s not what you’re into, your mom should be aware at the least. She’s still your mom, she’d probably understand. They usually do. Sometimes not instantly but they will.
Jenna. Jenna Marx. Nice to meet you.
Our mothers must be fairly different.
Well, what are you doing this summer?
Oh. Maybe you could tell your mom no?
My mother isn't the type of woman who takes "no" as an answer.
But, it's whatever. I'll deal. I'm Sharyn, by the way. Sharyn Steele.
Internship isn’t that bad. I hear it makes up for experience and other stuff you could put on your rĂ©sumĂ©.Â
That would be a plus, but it's not exactly the field I want to work in once I'm done school.
"You don’t want extra money?"
"It doesn't pay...Sadly."
Well, it’s not that bad, because that’s what I do, but eh fair enough I suppose. Where is this internship anyway?Â
Hollis Industries. They mainly focus is real estate. It's boring as hell. Grey walls don't exactly facilitate inspiration.
Uhhh not a good thing?Â
Sitting in a cubical all day isn't the ideal way to spend my summer, no.
My mother informed me that she got me an internship at her work.
Theo did the honors of ordering, and was surprised when the person they knew gave them a bottle on the house. They knew the person, but not very well. Hugging them over a bar then giving them one of their cards, they took the bottle and glasses then turned to Sharyn. “It’s your lucky day,” Theo laughed. Looking around, there were two or more seats of each kind that they could sit at. Not being able to make a decision, they looked back at the girl.
Pleased with the free bottle of wine, Sharyn smiled brightly. Pointing to one of the open tables, she walked over with a bit of a skip in her step. She uncorked the bottle and poured two glasses for herself and Theo. Sharyn swirled the wine and brought the rim to her lips. Inhaling the scent of the glass, she sighed. It was perfect. She sipped it lightly, and returned the glass to the table. "This is exactly what I needed."
Is there a problem with Yellow Tail?
Not exactly, I mean, it's not like it's horrible...It's just not that great of a wine.
