Kennedy watched the officer, curiosity drawing her to the other’s vicinity. “Is there a lot of those around here?” she asked, her fingers tapping on the coffee cup in her hand. “I didn’t think there were that many party animals in the cove.”

“not here --- more outside the cove neighborhood. it was actually just this one lady calling to complain about a child’s birthday party. twice. so until an actual emergency or crime has been committed at that address, i’m not even getting out of my car, i’m just gonna roll through, wave to the nosy old lady and be on my way and let those kids have fun,” she said. “i know it makes me sound like a bad cop, but i’m honestly considering to tell my dispatcher to let the lady know that we aren’t going to investigate anymore noise disturbances unless it’s after curfew or an actual emergency. she takes our time away from real emergencies, i can’t stand people that abuse the law like that.”

“oh, come on!” she whined as her radio called her unit number. sighing, she pressed the button on the little microphone on her earpiece. “officer davis 1-1-3, go ahead,” she spoke. "disregard, you’re not in the area,” the dispatcher said. shawna let out a sigh of relief, taking her hat off and setting it down. “thank god. if i get sent out to another ‘noise disturbance’ i’m gonna go crazy,” she said to the other nearby. @covestarters​

“i’m extremely happy. i have everything i could ever ask for. my husband, my sister, three beautiful babies even though we’re still confused as to how the girls ended up with red hair. i have a great job, a beautiful house and an adventure filled life. i have so much more than some others do so i’m not going to take anything for granted and be thankful for what i have. but i would like to get the new set of copic markers, that would make me over the moon.”

“my feisty veronica. she’s extremely passionate. about everything. just this morning she raved for twenty minutes about how perfect her chocolate chip pancakes were. and she goes off subject and makes up these stories that go on forever --- she’s my own little anne shirley-cuthbert. red hair and freckles to go along with it.”

Luis looked at her in interest at the revelation, nodding his head and trying to hide his eagerness. “Oh, that’s awesome. I used to be on the police force back home in Boston, but when I moved to Carolina I went private. Do you work in Beaumont?” 

“i used to. i still work with them now and then, but since i moved to the cove, i transferred to the station here. i still do a lot of patrolling in beaumont, though.”

“The feeding and watering and loving is the easy part, though, its the training I didn’t really think about.” Daisy said with a self-deprecating. The brunette’s offer had her eyes widening, and she nodded eagerly. “Oh, that would be amazing, if you don’t mind? That is so kind of you,” she gushed, resisting the urge to throw her arms around her in a hug. She always had been a hugger, but was aware it wasn’t quite everyone’s style.  

“training is the hardest part and it’s really not that bad,” she said. “yeah, we aren’t planning on getting anymore animals so i’m not going to need it anytime soon.”

“You seem like a great dog mom,” Luis said, sincerely. “Beagles are great, but I definitely don’t have the time for one. The hound genetics are strong, though. I always wanted a basset hound, but I’m a detective so it would be such a cliche.” 

“i do my best. it’s pretty much common sense,” she said. “they are strong, but it depends on how you raise them in general too. --- are you? i’m a police officer. it’s nice to meet someone in the industry around here.”

bruno smiled a wide grin as a new set of clients entered his shop. he knew he had to do a good job with his first few clients to help spread word of his new business. as the woman walked in with her son, he laughed, “it’s not for me, don’t worry” bruno reached out his hand to shake the police officer’s, “i’m bruno vitali. not a day drunk with scissors” he said proudly, trying to wave the air of suspicion the other had - with due reason. he looked down at the toddler and crouched down to his knees, “and what’s this rock star’s name?” he asked, reaching out his knuckles to fist bump the toddler’s gently.

“make sure you’re checking i.d.’s, at least,” she said, shaking his hand. “officer shawna davis,” she introduced herself. “this little one is oliver. you’d be able to see what he looks like if his hair wasn’t such a mess,” she said with a small chuckle as she pushed ollie’s bangs out of his face.

“aw, damn” derrick looked at the other and then laughed, “yeah, honestly i prefer regular headphones too” he was growing frustrated with himself for being so careless and losing the expensive christmas present on the fourth day he had with it. “get this - i’ve had these airpods for literally a few days and i’ve already managed to lose one. i told my husband not to buy me them…” he trailed off, not wanting to spout out too much of his personal life to a stranger. he heard her rant about her troubles with her daughter and he laughed, “sounds like some fresh air will do both of you well” he smiled. “though i totally relate to throwing a fit when hangry so i might just be on your kid’s side on this one” derrick laughed.

“yanno they made ‘airpod holders’ which is literally a string to keep them together... just like earphones,” she said with a small laugh. “she had waffles for breakfast, she was just mad because i went to mcdonalds and she didn’t. if she got to choose what we have for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day it would be mickey d’s. my other two aren’t picky so when we’re out and about and my oldest or youngest requests somewhere that isn’t mcdonald’s, i go ahead and go where they wanna go. they don’t ask very often so i like to spoil ‘em a little even if it makes my little match stick angry.”

“God help me, no.” Perhaps she has a little bit dramatic in the way she responded, but she couldn’t even think of that idea. First of all, no father or mother of the kids, second of all, no patience. That should’ve come first. “I don’t think I’ll ever be ready for that. Maybe when I’m 40.”

shawna laughed a little. “it’s not for everyone. it wasn’t for me at first either. kids were planned but we only decided that we were going to have kids. we never talked about when, just that eventually they’d happen. two weeks later, i’m almost four months pregnant,” she chuckled. “so, what do you do? do you work or are you in school or anything?”

“yeah, i’m also healthier when i’m pregnant,” ben’s smirk turned into a laugh, which turned into an act of loosening him up - too much of his time was spent feeling like something, somewhere was wrong. but not now. “sorry, sorry,” he paused before slowing his pace to match the other’s, then cleared his throat. “you’re braver than me, probably. have you ever tried the patches? i used to wear two. awful, right? i should probably invent time travel to go back and save myself from that one.”

shawna giggled. “i’m sure most people are,” she said. “i have not. i’m allergic to a lot of adhesives so i don’t like anything that’s stick-on. i have tried the gum though. didn’t work. i tried quitting cold turkey, but that only works when i’m pregnant and the baby factory is shut down, so. i’m sure if i really apply myself, it’ll happen but listen --- when you have a four-year-old that knows how to climb on the roof, a little nicotine boost is something that you need to keep from having a heart attack.”
