after closing up his shop, bruno decided he was going to head over to headlights for a drink before going home. one drink turned to two which turned to five and the next thing he knew, bruno was blackout drunk. by some luck and some experience with this mentality, bruno meandered his way back home and when he woke up it was late morning and he was sprawled out in bed with just a pair of athletic shorts on. hair going in five different directions and looking like the top of an onion, he heard the doorbell ring and stumbled to the door, sliding a robe around himself and answering it, “oh, my fuckin’ god i’m sorry i forgot” bruno rambled and sighed. “well, come in and i’ll get a pot of coffee going” he wiped the sleep from his eyes.

FIONA SNORTED. LIKE, literally laughed until she snorted (which didn’t take long) at the man’s horrible pun. “jesus, that was bad,” she responded, pouring him a glass. “fiona hayes’s world famous gin fizz. help yourself; there’s plenty to go around.” she handed the glass to him and smiled. “in case it wasn’t clear: i’m fiona hayes. pleasure to meet you.”

derrick grinned, proud of his obnoxiously terrible pun, “was it bad? or was it bad?” he made a face, referencing the early two thousands meaning of the word bad. derrick badly needed to get caught up with the times. “gin fizz? how could i say no?” derrick asked, grin wide on his face as he was handed the glass. the oncologist nodded, “pleasure meeting you, i’m derrick. i live over on lighthouse way” he paused to take a sip from the drink. “holy hell. this is  bad!” he exclaimed after just a few sips, making a head movement to indicate he meant bad in the positive sense of the word.

“and i’m glad to be back.. i have missed you, derrick,” he admitted. rafael liked his job, and he was proud of the position that he had.. but that didn’t change the fact that he really happened to miss his husband whenever he was gone. when he, not much later, felt his husband’s lips against his he couldn’t help but smile.. hell, how rafe had missed his touch. “work was alright, though it gets hectic sometimes.. not really something i want to talk about now, though, i want to enjoy my time with you now i’m back,” he gave the other a smile, his eyebrows raised ever so slightly. “i will be home for about five days,” he said, that wasn’t all that bad.. sure, he would love to stay home for days longer, but he was busy and he knew that he would have to leave for quite a while of work again soon enough. “i hope that sits right with you.. but for now, i’m home,” he looked around, before looking back at his husband; he was glad that they had decided on moving here.. it was a lot more laid back and he actually happened to like that a lot. when he listened to the other’s proposal it didn’t take him long to take his shirt and shoes off before he took his hand and joined him in there, letting the hot water touch his skin. “this is great,” he exclaimed then, turning himself to get a better look at his husband. “this.. this is something we should be doing more often.”

derrick respected just how much his husband enjoyed his job and he understood why rafael would never want to give it up. especially with a career that was so promising. if the tables were turned derrick would never give up his career as an oncologist just to appease his husband. even with that being said, it was hard for him to be apart from rafael and he tried not to let it show too much. “i’ll take whatever time i can get with you, babe” he admitted, a sheepish smile creeping across his lips as he looked over at his husband. he was incredibly enamored by rafael and couldn’t help but bite down on his lip as he watched him get undressed and join him in the hot tub. as rafael took his hand and slid down into the hot tub, derrick grinned, “it really is great” a wide smile plastered on his face. derrick slid right next to his husband in the hot tub, sharing a ledge with him as he pressed a kiss to his cheek, “my handsome senator” he beamed, “have i told you how proud i am of you?” derrick asked. he was just glad to spend time with rafael and didn’t give a second thought to the fact that his husband would be leaving him soon again. “i had a few days off work and got the kitchen and bedroom set up and all unpacked” he bragged, “dining room, living room and our studies are still not done. i’m thinking of hiring someone” derrick confessed.

damien’s hands skimmed the water, creating light splashes against the waves. the ebb and flow of the ocean has always fascinated him, the constant movement yet somehow peaceful and tranquil. it was like time stood still out here, in the early mornings, when there were only a few souls awake. “ I’m not one to say no to a good deal. ” truth be told, he was probably overdue for a haircut. other more pressing matters has taken priority of late. “ so what bring you to the cove? if you don’t mind me asking. all these new faces, i just feel like everyone has a story to tell. ”

bruno clasped his hands behind his head as he stood in the water, wading against the waves. he nodded his head, “well, you sure know where to find me” bruno looked over at the other. it was a small town and his shop was hard to miss. “well, aside from the foreclosed barber shop i just bought, nothing really” bruno shrugged and let a laugh escape his lips. “how about you? you seem like you have quite the story to tell” bruno questioned, using the other’s words to phrase his inquiry.

malachi didn’t like clubs. malachi hated them. but tonight was a different story, with the alcohol pumping through his body he found himself completely thrashing about on the dance floor. ❝   ain’t got no time to pretend. don’t fuck around, this is our last chance, ❞  he sung, throwing his hands up in the air and swaying his body to the music as his favorite band blasted overhead.

perhaps he was dancing too hard, because he found that he lost his balance completely and fell over, whether he fell into a person or a speaker he immediately started apologizing to whatever he fell into. ❝   shit, i’m so sorry.   ❞ he proclaimed, the blush on his face now forming because of his clumsiness.

bruno was at the club for no reason other than the fact that he was looking for something to occupy his time other than when he was busy at the shop. swaying to the music with a drink in hand, bruno smirked as he surveyed the dance floor. he was oddly at peace and his naturally chaotic essence was at rest for once. when someone bumped into him he shrugged, “don’t worry about it” bruno certainly wasn’t usually the type to just shrug and forgive but maybe he was turning over a new leaf. 

“you okay there?” he asked, impossible to wipe the smug smirk from his face as he took another sip from his drink, finding the other interesting.

damien chuckled, wading into the water. it had been a long night. dollar bills stuffed into uncomfortable places. loud music. demanding clients. he splashed his face, running the salt water through his hair. it was brisk, but not overly so. rejuvenating. symbolically starting a new day. 

     “ something like that. anyway, it’s nice to meet you. i’m damien, just moved in down the road. ”

bruno looked out to the horizon and let a slight sigh escape his lips. in his opinion this was one of the most gorgeous sights on the entire east coast.  “the pleasure is all mine. it’s nice to meet another new face around here” bruno explained with a smile. he then raised a brow and explained, “i bought the barber shop down in the cove so if you ever need a cut come check it out” he never missed a chance to promote his business. “maybe i’ll even offer you an early bird discount or somethin’” he teased, wading in the water.

as much as rafael enjoyed his work, it came with a couple of perks.. one of those was that he had been seeing his husband a lot less.. and while he hadn’t minded it so much in the beginning (rafael still knew he would see him time and time again), it was actually beginning to get him pretty sad sometimes. however, that was also what made coming home that much more fun. rafael was excited to come home from washington, as well as excited to surprise derrick with it. so, once he was home he had dropped his bags and he wondered where he’d be able to find the other, but that was when the hot tub and his husband’s love for it came to his mind.. and so he found his way to the back deck and a smile automatically popped up when he saw the back of his husband’s head. so, rafe figured to surprise the other when he approached him and put a hand on his shoulder, but the other’s reaction was different from what he expected.. still, he laughed. “i’m sorry,” he chuckled. “i didn’t mean to scare you.”

derrick grinned at the sight of his husband. he had missed him more than he could express and he was glad rafael had returned. “it’s fine, i’m just glad you’re back” derrick beamed a bright smile as he felt the hand on his shoulder. derrick turned to face rafael and cupped his face with his hand and planted a kiss on his lips. as their lips parted derrick asked, “how was it? how long are you home for?” a smile on his lips as he rested back in the hot tub, at peace with his husband finally being home. derrick bit down on his lip and waved at the hot tub, “c’mon join me” derrick smirked as he reached out his hand for the other male to grab and join him in the hot tub if he chose to. derrick had spent the better part of the last few weeks setting up their home and he was more than eager to share it with rafael now.

“It is an occupational hazard, but so worth it. Literally every pair of wired earphones I’ve ever had has ended up at the bottom of my bag, tangled up after like, the first use. The only downsized is the price tag.” She cast her eyes to the pavement, scanning it for a little dash of white that could be his lost earbud. “Her name is Dolly. Not that she knows it yet, but soon, hopefully.” 

derrick nodded his head, “yeah, i certainly don’t miss the days of bunched headphone cords” he laughed before he spotted a bright white spot in the grass. he leaned down to pick it up and said, “oh, my god ew” jumping back quickly, “i think it was a damn marshmallow” he cringed. then derrick looked down at the adorable puppy, “what a cutie. any connection to dolly parton? or was it something else?” derrick asked as he went back to searching for his lost airpod.

DOMINIC SMILED, RELEASING a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding. with that, he also released the handful of his hair he’d grabbed earlier. “great. well, i know pecan pie is a hit, so that’s good,” he said with a slight chuckle. “i do make things other than baked goods, too, so if you ever need something for dinner, i’ve got you covered there as well.” he was doing this constantly; making food for others in exchange for goods and services. it, along with the trust fund  money that was supposed to have gone to harvard law school, was how he’d saved up to buy a restaurant. “mutualism indeed,” he repeated with a smile. “i  almost feel like we should toast, or something.”

“that sounds amazing“ bruno rubbed his stomach in a rather dramatic fashion as he eyed the other. he paused and made a faux dramatic look in dominic’s direction, “unless this is some ploy to get me chunky...” he wondered aloud teasingly, “were you hired by one of my exes to exact revenge?” bruno punctuated his question with a laugh to indicate that he was just messing around. the thought of being cooked for made bruno crack a grin, “look, i won’t turn down any meal or food, trust me” he promised, “consider yourself having a free pass to get a cut from me whenever you want” bruno told the other with a nod. “a toast would be nice” he nodded before fetching two wine glasses from his cabinet, “you like red or white wine?” bruno asked.

“Don’t mention it.” He liked to help where he could, and it wasn’t like he was running off to anywhere important. At best, he would finish a couple loops of the neighborhood and then go to pick up a coffee. “Nice to meet you, Derrick. I’m Nick, Sea Drift Lane.” He had yet to really figure out where Lighthouse Way was, but he assumed that it was close enough. “Do you have kids? Last week I told my sister I hadn’t been to the gym in a while and she went on a rant about how dad bods are back to only being acceptable for dads,” he admitted around a laugh. Occasionally, it was useful to have a sister who was more than ten years younger than him — other times, it just left him feeling old. “I think you might be on to something. Leave the AirPods for when you’re out running errands.” He’d developed the habit of keeping his headphones in his jacket pocket back when he lived in New York, having found that setting music to his daily commute made things less tedious. That, and it meant that people only stopped him when it was genuinely important. “Or trying to subtly avoid people.”

“it’s a pleasure, nick” derrick grinned as he thanked the other for helping him. while he registered the name of the street he had mentioned, he was still unsure where the streets were in relation to his own. “no kids if i have any say on the matter” derrick teased as he scratched the back of his head. that was a loaded question at the moment as he and his husband had been having the ‘kids discussion’ a lot lately. “well, i think if prompted to choose between the two i’d go with a hot bod and no kids” derrick laughed, “for now at least” the oncologist perhaps overshared. “what about you? dad bod with kids or hot bod?” he questioned with a laugh, finding the conversation interesting to say the least. derrick conceded that he was probably best to leave the airpods for times he wasn’t exercising, “air pods are great for public transit, but they definitely failed the light jog test” derrick reported, “might be time to whip out my clunky headphones” he admitted.

“None!” came the giddy reply. And it was true. he really hadn’t had a single one of those fancy shots that some of the guests seemed to be enjoying. “I am, however, on my fourth glass of champagne. Very nice of you to not punch me back!” He glanced down, almost as if he were pondering something very important, before his head shot back up, a wide grin across his face. “Nice shirt!”

“well that certainly explains it“ bruno smirked as he shook his head, “it would be a crime to punch such a pretty face” bruno teased as he brought his drink to his lips. he figured the best way to fit in with this town was to be as charming and friendly as possible, as hard as that was for the arrogant barber. “why thank you” bruno placed his hands on his hips before motioning to the other, “likewise, i’m digging your shirt as well” bruno chuckled before asking, “you having a good time at this gatsby-fest?”

  @covestarters​ - - the sun was slowly rising over the ocean, the warmth from the rays bringing the smallest of smiles to damien’s face. he took a deep breath and wiggled his toes into the sand. it had been a long night at the headlights and damien couldn’t wait to wade into the water and wash off the sins of his job. he wasn’t the only one who was out at this early hour, however.

     “ couldn’t sleep either, huh? “

bruno had decided that one of his many new years resolutions for 2020 was to get up earlier and enjoy more sunrises. as he strode towards the water, bruno smirked, tossing his shirt to the side and diving into the water. when he came back up he slicked his hair out of his eyes and jumped a little when he saw the other so close. usually at this hour he was alone, “yeah, i’ve been trying to wake up early” bruno explained. “what about you? long night?” he asked with a smirk.

derrick always hated being home alone in the new house. while rafael was busy in washington he was left to his own devices and often found himself listless and unsure of what to do. knowing that rafael would be returning tonight, he flopped down on the couch with a stack of residency applications. parsing through the different applicants he found his mind wandering and decided to turn on the hot tub and relax a bit. changing into his bathing suit, derrick poured himself a glass of white wine and headed out to the back deck. setting the temperature on high he sunk down into the hot, jetted water. feeling relaxed, his eyes rolled closed and he rested his head against the edge of the tub. he was jolted awake when he felt a tap on his bare shoulder, “oh my god, hey!” he called out with a grin, “you almost gave me a m.i., babe” derrick laughed.

Against her better judgement, Kathryn had decided to walk the twenty minutes from St. Mary’s to the place she now called home. She’d been hoping the fresh air would do her good, maybe even wake her up a little. It had worked for the first fifteen minutes or so, but this last bit was dragging. It took her a moment to realise he was talking to her as he ran up, honestly a little thankful for the interruption. “I haven’t, sorry. Though i’m basically just running on caffeine and the ultimate goal of a comfy bed as opposed to a park bench right now, so my eyesight might not be the best judge of accuracy.” She replied with a faint chuckle of her own. “I’m actually on my way home, got lucky with an early finish. What about you? What the hell would inspire someone to go for a run at this ungodly hour?”   

derrick continued to scan the nearby lawn for his missing airpod. he felt bad that he was involving a complete stranger in his messy search, but desperate times called for desperate measures and derrick felt like this was a grade a emergency. “it’s alright, no worries” he flashed a friendly smile in kathryn’s direction. “well, it would be a crime for me to keep you from your comfy bed over something dumb like a missing airpod” derrick pointed out with a shrug. he then answered, “honestly, i don’t know what i was thinking. one too many weight loss commercials on television i think. i should probably stop watching so much late night television because it always ends badly” the oncologist explained truthfully with a laugh.

       elijah’s eyes scan the room, making awkward eye contact with someone near him. he lifts his glass to take a sip, his nose scrunching when the liquid makes its way down his throat. “i really don’t know why i bother getting a drink at parties when it all tastes like shit to me. he looks down at the amber liquid in his glass, his face contorting in disgust. surely, it was to give the illusion that he was involved in his surroundings - even if he would much rather be anywhere else right now.

bruno was on an errand, running to the bar for what could potentially be his third or fourth jack on the rocks for the night. losing count, he checked his phone for the time and made eye contact with a male standing by the bar. he figured it was rude to stare so he wandered over to him, “what are you even drinking?“ bruno questioned as he peered into the other’s semi-full glass. some people weren’t drinkers and he respected that, “no shame in ordering something virgin, y’know. i won’t tell anyone” he nudged the other with his elbow.

𝚝𝚑𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚗𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝 as people continued to offer to buy drinks, lilith couldn’t help but to say yes. she was sure people were just trying to be friendly, but she fit almost perfectly into the “german stereotype.” (she loves alcohol). at this point, her decision to move to south carolina was probably one of the best she had made. she was a friendly drunk, moving around the room, getting to know her neighbors and being rather interested in the people she was meeting. everything would remain this way until she started drinking water and she would begin to regret her decision again. looking towards the person she was currently talking to, an amused grin crossed her red painted lips. “really ? so what made you come to lighthouse cove ?” / @covestarters​

bruno’s strategy for the roaring twenties party was to show up, throw some ‘old sports’ around and buy drinks to anyone who gave him a lick of attention. he wanted clout in the neighborhood badly and was willing to foot the bill if necessary. spying a friendly looking blonde, bruno sauntered over in her direction and initiated conversation by answering her question, “well, my dumbass thought it would be a good idea to buy the foreclosed barber shop in town” he laughed, bringing the cup that contained jack on the rocks up to his lips and taking a nice swig. “threw down 50k on renovations and it’s finally up and running” bruno boasted proudly. “what about you?” he questioned.
